Kanu
Kanu Rightfelt is a White Rose captain, the brother of Jasmine, and Jayden Tiger's brother-in-law. His relaxed manner conceals one of White Rose's strongest field operatives and an investigator willing to expose corruption within his own organization. Jayden's death makes Kanu treat Gary Dem and Xin Clove as family, bringing White Rose into the alliance against One Gang. He dies holding an Ironfang away from his retreating companions, turning the institutional duty he often criticized into a personal act of protection.
Biography
A captain inside a compromised institution
Kanu first arrives after Gary defeats the crazed AFC fighter Haze. He lifts Haze effortlessly, praises Gary for preventing casualties, and insists on investigating the drug behind the transformation rather than treating the boy as disposable. During interrogation, infiltrators kill Haze and expose corruption inside White Rose. Kanu kills one of the attackers after the immediate threat has passed, honestly admits that grief and anger drove his excessive force, and accepts suspension instead of inventing a self-defence claim. The case establishes both sides of his leadership: he believes White Rose owes protection to vulnerable Altereds, but his emotions can override its procedure. (Chapters 673–687)
His suspension brings him to Jasmine's grave, where he meets Jayden. Kanu is Jasmine's brother and understands Jayden's inability to let go of her death, but argues that private revenge will only repeat their loss. He urges Jayden to join White Rose or help build evidence from outside it. Jayden refuses, leaving Kanu to pursue reform within the organization while his brother-in-law follows a more solitary path. Their disagreement is tactical rather than emotional; both are acting from the same grief and concern for Xin. (Chapters 687–688)
Jayden's legacy and the Howlers alliance
Kanu later moves into Internal Affairs, where his blunt independence becomes useful in uncovering misconduct. When Jayden dies fighting Harvor, Kanu directs the river search and personally recovers his body. The loss changes the One Gang investigation from professional concern into a family obligation. Elijah brings him Rickle's evidence, and Kanu submits it through White Rose, enabling an official partnership with the Howlers. When he meets Gary, he embraces him and reasons that anyone Jayden called a brother is now his brother too. (Chapters 1044, 1053–1060)
That commitment is tested when One Gang captures Xin. Kanu volunteers alongside Elijah and helps trace the warehouse from background details in the available images. Inside, he protects the less powerful members of the rescue team, defeats Zodiac opposition, and reaches Xin after sustained fighting. His motivation is explicitly familial: he failed to preserve Jayden, so he will not also lose Jayden's sister or the people his brother-in-law trusted. The successful rescue makes Kanu a durable bridge between White Rose's lawful authority and the Howlers' capacity to act. (Chapters 1066–1104)
The last defence of Slough
White Rose is collapsing by the time the Lupus Pack attacks Slough, but Kanu still joins Elijah, Sadie, and Frank in the defence. An iron-masked Ironfang overwhelms their group, tears off Elijah's arm, and resists Kanu's strongest crab and water attacks. Kanu orders the injured survivors to run and remains behind. As internal wounds worsen, the water leaving his mouth becomes red and then is effectively sustained by his own blood. He uses the last of it to keep the pursuing werewolves back and gives Elijah a final message for Xin: she found a great man, and he is proud of her. (Chapters 1357, 1410–1429)
The scene ends without showing a corpse, but the Ironfang's return confirms the outcome to Elijah, and the surviving defenders later report Kanu's sacrifice. News of his death spreads after the battle. Years later, Gary still counts Kanu among the dead whose absence defines the peace they won. His end state is therefore unambiguously deceased, even though the precise final instant is not narrated. (Chapters 1457, 1485, 1516, 1847)
Appearance and personality
Kanu is a tall, lanky man with long orange hair extending past his shoulders and shorter hair at the front in a wolf-cut style. He wears White Rose's white-and-gold uniform in official work and is sometimes shown smoking, dismissing the health risk because his Altered body repairs ordinary damage. His crab transformation replaces or surrounds much of that narrow human silhouette with heavy orange shell and oversized pincers. (Chapters 673, 688, 1096–1104)
He appears relaxed, lazy, and irreverent, qualities that hold back his formal advancement despite exceptional strength. Beneath that presentation he is direct, compassionate toward victims, and unusually unwilling to protect himself with institutional excuses. Kanu can be hot-tempered when someone under White Rose's care is killed, but his later choices show development from retaliatory anger toward protective sacrifice. Family is the constant beneath both reactions.
Powers and abilities
Altered strength and crab physiology
Kanu's Altered solution gives him immense physical strength and durability even before a visible change. He can leap over an arena wall while carrying Haze and later fight the Hydra Altered Raven through a collapsing building without immediately transforming. His healing also neutralizes ordinary damage such as the effects of smoking. The corpus does not identify the donor creature, provider, or time at which he received the solution. (Chapters 673, 688, 781)
Partial and fuller transformation produce orange crab-like shell, huge pincers, and heavy natural armour. The pincers can catch attacks, crush bone, and deliver enough force to defeat elite One Gang fighters, while the shell can extend over his face and body to absorb impacts that would kill a less durable operative. The form is not absolute protection: sustained high-tier attacks damage him internally, an Ironfang can overpower the shell, and injuries eventually make even standing impossible. (Chapters 1096–1104, 1410–1429)
Water projection
Kanu can expel concentrated streams of water from his mouth. He says he rarely needs the element, suggesting it is a secondary feature of his Altered state rather than his normal fighting method. The jets can strike at range, push back werewolves, and help him control several approaches while his pincers handle close threats. The corpus does not explain whether he creates the water, stores it biologically, or draws it from his body. (Chapters 1410–1429)
His final use demonstrates the ability's cost under extreme injury. The stream becomes blood-tinged and then continues as his own blood while his body fails. That does not establish blood as a separate element; it shows that he can force the projection after normal reserves or internal integrity are gone, at a fatal physiological price. His death prevents any later progression or recovery from being observed. (Chapters 1428–1429)
Investigation and command
Kanu is an experienced investigator, interrogator, squad commander, and Internal Affairs operative. He recognizes connections in infected-solution cases, directs searches, evaluates photographic backgrounds, and knows how to move evidence through White Rose's hierarchy. His command is strongest when protecting others: he assigns retreat routes, places himself against the hardest opponent, and uses his reputation to make cooperation between suspicious institutions possible.
Relationships
Jayden Tiger and Jasmine
Jasmine is Kanu's sister, making Jayden his brother-in-law. Her death leaves both men grieving but pushes them toward different methods: Kanu wants evidence and institutional action, while Jayden pursues Harvor directly. Jayden's eventual death collapses that distinction for Kanu. He continues using White Rose procedure, but now does so to protect Jayden's remaining family and complete the work Jayden could not.
Gary Dem and Xin Clove
Kanu accepts Gary as a brother because Jayden did and treats Xin as family in her own right. He helps authorize the campaign against One Gang, joins Xin's rescue, and makes his final message to her rather than to White Rose. Xin's grief at his disappearance reflects a bond created through Jayden but sustained by Kanu's own choices.
Elijah, Sadie, and Frank
Elijah, Sadie, and Frank are Kanu's White Rose companions and the people he saves at the end. Elijah supplies the evidence that lets Kanu mobilize the institution, while all three follow him into battles after White Rose is already failing. Ordering them to live turns Kanu's authority into his final gift; their continued work in Slough is part of his legacy.
Items
Kanu has no finalized notable personal item in the supplied inventory. His White Rose equipment is standard operational gear rather than a configured signature possession.
