Ash

Ash is the leader of the Ashes, later called the Ashen gang, and the director of AJ Entertainment. His partnership with the Howlers preserves his company through internal abuse and gang warfare, while giving the Howlers a media platform able to bypass hostile broadcasters.

Biography

From cautious partnership to reform at AJ

Ash first tests whether the Howlers can defend Notsburg, then meets Kai to propose cooperation rather than war. His gang runs AJ Productions, and the partnership gives the Howlers a legitimate investment while leaving Ash in operational control. That arrangement becomes decisive when director Matthew, Ash's former co-founder, uses his influence to abuse performers and gather Ashen supporters for a takeover. Ash has compiled evidence for White Rose but delays while seeking a case strong enough to survive Matthew's influence. Once Elanor warns that the performers are in immediate danger, he calls the Howlers, follows Gary Dem into the room, and commits to reporting Matthew. After Gary defeats him, Ash apologizes to the survivors and begins removing Matthew's supporters from AJ. (Chapters 598, 632, 635–637)

Turning entertainment infrastructure into independent news

During the Phoenix attack on Slough, established broadcasters suppress coverage and AJ loses contracts because of its Howlers connection. Clem proposes launching AJ's unfinished independent streaming system, and Ash chooses to activate it, mobilize the company's stars, and fly with her to broadcast Gary's battle against Sin. He orders a retreat when the camera begins failing from the heat, balancing the value of the footage against the crew's safety. AJ survives the crisis and later hosts Gary's live announcement of his AFC return, leaving Ash as the director of a company that serves both entertainment and the Howlers' public strategy. Appearance and personality

Ash is a young man in his early twenties with neatly swept hair, an actor- or model-like face, and a taste for striped suits. He is calculating enough to test a potential ally before negotiating, but prefers investment and influence to open conflict. His delayed response to Matthew shows caution becoming a liability; his apology and subsequent purge show that he accepts responsibility once the harm is exposed. (Chapters 598, 632, 637)

Powers and abilities

Ash is not shown transforming or using a supernatural ability. His effective power is organizational: he negotiates gang partnerships, manages talent and company ownership, assembles evidence, coordinates staff, and deploys AJ's streaming and helicopter resources under pressure. He explicitly recognizes that he cannot overpower the Altered Matthew himself, so he relies on evidence, White Rose, and the Howlers rather than pretending his institutional authority is combat strength. Relationships

• Kai: Kai accepts Ash's partnership and later keeps him informed during the Phoenix war; Ash retains day-to-day control of AJ under Howlers ownership.
