Chang Wenyu

Chang Wenyu is Chang Gu's missing younger sister, the former bearer of the Left Oculus, and the only known student to escape the School of the Afterlife. Her rebellion against the Painter leads her back to the school's door, where she sacrifices most of herself trying to destroy it. A surviving remnant later returns as Single Eye and joins Chen Ge's assault on the Cursed Hospital.

Biography

The Left Oculus and a missing soul

Chang Wenyu's story first reaches Chen Ge through Chang Gu's unfinished film. Every supernatural route in its footage converges on the same girl, whose unusual left eye can perceive changes ordinary people miss. Investigation connects that eye to the School of the Afterlife and suggests that Wenyu escaped from behind its door carrying it. Her physical body survives in the real world, but the consciousness that should inhabit it is absent. (Chapters 714–718)

Chang Gu devotes himself to preserving his sister's body and finding a way to return her soul. Experiments involving the rejected eye and the women drawn into the film leave the body's identity difficult to separate from the spirits using it, especially Qiumei. Chen Ge therefore follows the Left Oculus as both a clue and a danger: it can expose another world, but possessing it does not by itself restore Wenyu to her brother. (Chapters 719–726)

Rebellion against the Painter

Within the School of the Afterlife, Chang Wenyu becomes the second known person to enter and the only one said to have escaped. She rejects the Painter's attempt to preserve people inside an idealized refuge, arguing that even painful choices must remain their own. Her opposition is strategic rather than open at first. She leaves influences among students, steers memories and suspicions, and prepares the school's divided consciousness for a struggle over who will control its door. (Chapters 815–829)

Zhang Ju becomes both a victim of that strategy and proof of her ruthlessness. Chang Wenyu uses the library mirror to draw him into a trap and takes his left eye, exploiting the very organ through which the school and its hidden truths can be perceived. Her plans also work through Zhou Tu and the arriving Chen Ge, whose refusal to accept the Painter's fixed paradise supplies the disruption she needs. (Chapters 815–816, 829–835)

When the competing powers finally reach the school's door, Chang Wenyu appears covered in wounds, her back joined to the door and a three-headed demon spreading through its surface. She is already a Top Red Specter and wants neither the Painter nor the fog-born intruder to inherit the school. Laughing through split lips, she merges herself more deeply with the demon and uses the consciousness gathered by the school to try to destroy the door altogether. (Chapters 900–905)

The attempt costs Chang Wenyu her red uniform and most of her independent form. Zhang Ya removes her single red eye, then seals the three-headed image into hibernation. The Black Phone nevertheless identifies Chang Wenyu as a Top Red Specter who is not completely dead, recording a lingering soul that still remains. Her abandoned physical body also continues to lie in the sickroom, leaving survival divided between body, eye, and spectral remnant. (Chapters 905–906)

Single Eye and the march on the hospital

In the false Xin Hai, the hospital recasts Chang Wenyu as Single Eye, one of the three most dangerous specters associated with Xin Hai Private Academy. Zuo Han bargains away his left eye to secure her help, echoing the history through which sight, identity, and entry into the supernatural have always been linked for her. When she meets Chen again, she answers the collapsing fiction with savage laughter and immediately joins his march. (Chapters 1188–1194)

Single Eye tears through hospital patients and feeds on their souls and resentment through her empty socket, growing more frightening as the battle continues. She decapitates the false Doctor Gao and trades injury for injury without hesitation. When the hospital director attacks, her restored Top Red form expands several times over, blood vessels assemble the three-headed demon around her, and a scarred arm meets the Demon God's tail without fear. Appearance and personality

Chang Wenyu's living body is a thin young woman with long black hair and severe damage surrounding the transplanted Left Oculus. The film sometimes shows stitched or changing features because other souls and hosts overlap with that body, so those faces are not reliable descriptions of Wenyu herself. Her true spectral presentation is more consistent: a schoolgirl in red, marked by wounds, one eye, split lips, and a disquieting smile. (Chapters 714–726, 900–906)

She is defiant, calculating, and willing to inflict or accept terrible injury for freedom. Chang Wenyu manipulates Zhang Ju and other students, but her central objection to the Painter is principled: a painless sanctuary becomes a cage when its residents cannot choose to leave. Her laughter at the door and in the hospital battle is both intimidating and revealing, showing someone who meets opponents stronger than herself with provocation rather than submission. Skills and supernatural abilities

Left Oculus perception

The Left Oculus lets its bearer perceive the School of the Afterlife, alterations in shadows, and phenomena hidden from ordinary sight. Chang Wenyu carries it out of the school, while later attempts to place or exchange the eye cause serious rejection and entangle her body with other spirits. The organ is therefore a powerful perceptual key, but not a stable cure or a complete vessel for her identity. (Chapters 714–726)

Mirrors, memory, and manipulation

Chang Wenyu understands the school's mirrors and can use them to isolate targets, redirect perception, and prepare ambushes. She exploits this knowledge against Zhang Ju and influences students such as Zhou Tu without always appearing directly. These methods depend on planning and the school's unstable consciousness; they are less reliable once the door's competing owners force the conflict into open battle. (Chapters 815–835)

Door symbiosis and the three-headed demon

At the school door, Chang Wenyu joins her spectral form to the three-headed image and draws upon consciousness accumulated within the school. The merger lets her contest control of the door and attempt its destruction, but it consumes her red uniform and most of her independent spirit. In the final battle, the same image reforms from blood vessels around her enlarged body, giving her the reach and strength to intercept a Demon God's attack. (Chapters 900–906, 1197)

Soul and resentment consumption

As Single Eye, Chang Wenyu draws souls and resentment through her empty left socket. Feeding makes her aura more dangerous and supports rapid growth during the hospital assault. She fights through severe reciprocal wounds and uses direct tearing force as readily as supernatural absorption. The technique increases her battlefield pressure, but it does not place her on the hospital director's Demon God level. (Chapters 1194–1197)
