Zhang Ju

Zhang Ju is a burn-scarred student whose stolen memories return inside the School of the Afterlife, allowing him to advance from a Half Red Specter to a Red Specter.

Biography

The scarred club member

Chen Ge, while posing as Mr. Bai, recruits Zhang Ju on the western campus because the isolated student has a frightening exterior but a kind disposition. Zhang remembers a karaoke fire after high-school graduation yet cannot account for his hospitalization or arrival at the university. He joins the supernatural phenomenon observation club, guides its investigation, and admits growing fear when laboratories and hidden mirror structures trigger knowledge he should not possess. Recovering his death and identity

The club's investigation restores Zhang Ju's real memories: Chang Wenyu used him, took his left eye, and left him carrying the false identity of Lin Sisi. Accepting that he died shatters the school's comforting alteration of his past. Blood spreads across his clothes as memory and resentment return, strengthening him from a Half Red Specter into a full Red Specter while he helps Chen cross the campuses and confront the truth behind the mirrors. (Chapters 801–834)

Zhang's recovery also changes his emotional direction. He begins ashamed of his scars and afraid that others see a monster, but Chen's refusal to reject him earns deliberate trust. Even after recalling Chang Wenyu's betrayal and the loss of his eye, he chooses solidarity with the other club members instead of retreating into the false peace offered by the Painter's western campus. Defending his chosen home

During the struggle for the school, Zhang Ju and Zhu Long protect injured students and fight beside Chen's allies. When Zhou Tu and Wang Yicheng follow the Painter, Zhang and Zhu Long remain with Chen because he restored their identities and treated them as people. After the battle, Zhang chooses to stay behind and support the old headmaster, accepting the School of the Afterlife as a home worth defending rather than a prison to escape. (Chapters 891–907)

Appearance and personality

Zhang Ju's left cheek, neck, and part of his scalp are heavily burned, his left eye is missing, and his voice is harsh and grating. The scars can move as his memory and power return. He habitually lowers his head and initially assumes others will reject him, but beneath that reserve he is clever, considerate, dependable, and willing to protect weaker students. Skills and supernatural abilities

As a Half Red and later Red Specter, Zhang Ju can exert great physical force, restrain hostile spirits, endure a blood-soaked supernatural environment, and fight directly against other Red Specters. His power intensifies with recovered memory and identity rather than through a named technique. (Chapters 815–829, 891–902)

Chen Ge recruits Zhang Ju while disguised as Mr. Bai and earns his lasting loyalty by restoring his memories. Chang Wenyu manipulates him, steals his left eye, and makes him a scapegoat. Zhu Long becomes his closest fighting partner, while Zhou Tu and Wang Yicheng are club companions whose final allegiance diverges from his. (Chapters 794–834, 891–907)

Items

No named weapon or supernatural artifact is permanently assigned to Zhang Ju. His missing left eye is central to his history with Chang Wenyu, but it remains a stolen body part rather than an item in his custody. (Chapters 815–834)
