Chang Gu

Chang Gu is a filmmaker whose search for his younger sister, Chang Wenyu, leaves him isolated, nearly blind, and bound to the School of the Afterlife. After his death, he continues directing films as one of Chen Ge's supernatural employees.

Biography

Searching for Chang Wenyu

Chang Gu hides in an abandoned holiday villa after repeated attempts to recover Chang Wenyu from the phantom school. Guilt toward his sister and Qiumei drives him to reconstruct their tragedy through film and guard a private screening room containing clues. He distrusts Chen Ge, yet accepts a conditional alliance when Chen offers a credible route into the School of the Afterlife. By leading him to Wenyu's sickbed and explaining the Left Oculus, Chang turns isolated mourning into an active rescue plan. (Chapters 713–726, 757–763)

Chang Gu later serves as an intermediary around the library mirror and the door to the school, supplying knowledge while still protecting Wenyu's own designs. The siblings' secrecy contributes to Chen being manipulated during the School of the Afterlife conflict, so their alliance remains uneasy even when their goals overlap. Chang's loyalty never shifts away from his sister; what changes is his willingness to depend on Chen when Wenyu's surviving spirit needs outside help. (Chapters 813–835, 882–908, 940–978)

Director after death

Chang Gu dies in the hospital after losing his transplanted eye, but his lingering spirit waits for Chen because he still wants to see Wenyu again. He voluntarily enters Yan Danian's comic and bargains for help, then repays his debt by directing the House of Horrors' ghost employees. His first short film becomes an online success, giving him meaningful work after death and turning his old equipment and professional discipline toward the attraction's expansion. He continues advising Chen during Wenyu's restoration and is still directing the employees at the final reunion. (Chapters 1111–1116, 1147–1148, 1210)

Appearance and personality

Chang Gu is a gaunt adult man with severely damaged eyes. His transplanted left eye bears a red ring and offers limited vision, while the right pupil is cracked and blind; using the transplant can make the eye bleed. He is suspicious, intelligent, guilt-ridden, and fiercely protective of Wenyu. Professional work reveals a more assured side: among actors and equipment, he is organized, exacting, and capable of genuine enthusiasm. (Chapters 717, 724–725, 1111–1116)

Skills and supernatural abilities

Chang Gu is a trained filmmaker who can script, stage, shoot, and edit material that reconstructs psychological and supernatural events. He possesses strong organizational instincts and quickly turns the House's disparate spirits into a functioning cast. The partial Left Oculus transplant occasionally changes the colors he perceives and lets him glimpse supernatural phenomena, but it never integrates fully, causes bleeding, and does not restore ordinary sight. After death he exists as a lingering spirit able to enter Yan Danian's comic and work among Chen's spectral employees. (Chapters 713–725, 1111–1116)
