Dong Bo Lie

Dong Bo Lie is the father and first martial instructor of Dong Bo Xue Ying and Dong Bo Qing Shi. A commoner who enters the army, becomes a Heaven Rank Knight, and purchases the barony that becomes Snow Eagle Territory, he gives Xue Ying the discipline, spear foundation, and family responsibility that shape the boy's earliest choices. His arrest and prolonged forced labor make family reunion Xue Ying's first great goal; after the rescue, Dong Bo Lie resumes life as a husband, father, and clan elder rather than becoming a leading combatant. The supplied Chapters 239–1099 are largely fragmentary, so his later Deity life is represented by brief surviving openings; Chapter 1384 supports his death and potential restoration but does not depict the restoration itself.

Biography

Building Snow Eagle Territory

Dong Bo Lie begins as a commoner and gains access to Qi cultivation only after entering the army at twenty. He nevertheless reaches the Heaven Rank, survives an adventuring life with Mo Yang Yu, Tong San, and Zong Ling, and returns to his home county when Mo Yang Yu becomes pregnant. The couple buy a low noble title and land so their child can grow up with opportunities Dong Bo Lie never had, naming the territory after Xue Ying. His barony is therefore a family project built from military advancement and adventuring gains, not inherited status. (Chapters 1–3 and 29)

As lord, Dong Bo Lie combines personal force with practical preparation. He commands soldiers, equips Snowrock Castle with enough Star Breaking Crossbows to threaten a Meteor Knight, and can identify the rank and danger of an intruder before committing his household to a fight. His response to the Mo Yang Clan's arrival shows the limit of that local power: the castle can threaten the accompanying knight, but it cannot resist the mage controlling the weather above it or overturn the clan law used to seize him and his wife. His most consequential work is raising Xue Ying. Dong Bo Lie begins the boy's spear training at six, corrects his accuracy, insists on high-repetition practice, obtains a better Qi method than the one he learned in the army, and teaches the same foundation contained in the family's sole Transcendent spear manual. The regimen is harsh but materially supported with equipment and medicinal baths, and Dong Bo Lie openly expects his son to surpass him. When arrest becomes unavoidable, he entrusts the territory and children to Zong Ling and Tong San, reinforces the Black Iron Order as Xue Ying's first attainable rescue goal, and leaves only after arranging continuity for the household. Separation and forced labor

Dong Bo Lie accepts the danger attached to Mo Yang Yu's past rather than leave her. When she asks whether he regrets their marriage if her clan finds them, he answers by invoking the life-threatening situations they already survived together. Once the Mo Yang Clan arrives, the couple comply only after resistance proves hopeless and repeatedly look back at their sons while departing. The separation transfers responsibility to eight-year-old Xue Ying and turns Dong Bo Lie's own promise—live well and protect the family—into the standard his son tries to fulfill. (Chapters 2–3)

The Mo Yang Clan sentences Dong Bo Lie to a century of labor at the East Fragrant Lake refiner workshop. Mo Yang Chen Bai redirects resentment over his own daughter's arranged marriage toward Dong Bo Lie, ordering repeated torture and medical treatment designed to keep the prisoner alive for further abuse. The pressure is severe enough that reports say even a Heaven Rank Knight's body cannot endure it unaided; years later Dong Bo Lie is thinner, dressed as a common laborer, and assigned strength-based work at the bottom of the Mage Tower hierarchy. News of Xue Ying's apparent death at Black-Wind Cliff becomes another deliberate punishment. A mage delivers the report on Mo Yang Chen Bai's order, and Dong Bo Lie drops the refuse he is carrying as his surroundings seem to lose their color. He then hears that Mo Yang Yu has suffered a destructive mental and magical crisis. Despite believing both his son and his wife's well-being lost, he continues through roughly twenty years of labor because survival leaves open the possibility of a miracle. (Chapters 78 and 90)

His captivity also changes the meaning of Xue Ying's early training. The discipline Dong Bo Lie imposed lets Xue Ying grow strong enough to pursue the rescue, while the reports of his father's torture make the goal more urgent and more violent. Dong Bo Lie does not direct his son's missions from prison, but his treatment causes Xue Ying to reject gradual routes such as accumulating an Honorary Marquis title and eventually return as a Transcendent capable of ending the sentence by force. Rescue and the reunited clan

Xue Ying first frees Mo Yang Yu and then enters the refiner workshop with her. Dong Bo Lie initially cannot believe that the black-robed young man is the son reported dead, but recognizes the details of Xue Ying's face and learns that he survived the abyss and became a Transcendent. His reaction is pride rather than resentment over the delay: he repeats his old prediction that Xue Ying would surpass him and treats the son's achievement as the fulfillment of the hope that sustained him. (Chapter 90)

When Xue Ying proposes destroying the Mo Yang Clan, Dong Bo Lie supports Mo Yang Yu's plea for restraint. He acknowledges the suffering but distinguishes the people close to his wife from those responsible for their punishment and asks Xue Ying not to enlarge the conflict unnecessarily. This intervention does not erase accountability—Xue Ying still punishes the responsible leaders—but it helps turn extermination into a targeted reckoning and permits the family to leave together rather than remain defined by vengeance. Back at Snowrock Castle, Dong Bo Lie is willing to resume administration. Xue Ying's Transcendent status transfers control of Azure River County to the Dong Bo Clan, and Dong Bo Lie immediately asks how the change affects the entrenched Si Clan. The narrative describes him as capable of managing the larger responsibility because he has already governed Snow Eagle Territory and survived many dangers, although Xue Ying and Dragon Mountain Manor provide the overwhelming authority and transitional manpower. His later direct scenes emphasize family continuity. In Xia Capital, he and Mo Yang Yu welcome Yu Jing Qiu as a prospective daughter-in-law and share ordinary meals around Xue Ying's cultivation. By the time they are over a hundred, Dong Bo Lie jokes about his wife's attempts to advise their Transcendent son and immediately retreats when she glares at him. These scenes show him settled into the household created by Xue Ying's rise, with no evidence that he seeks an independent political or martial career beyond the clan. (Chapters 167 and 236)

Deity years and final source state

Much later surviving chapter openings place Dong Bo Lie with Mo Yang Yu and the extended family at Black Fog Sea and then in Xue Ying's Monarch residence. Chapter 780 explicitly says the couple, Qing Shi, Zong Ling, and Tong San have become Deities and have lived at that level for more than ten thousand years, but it does not preserve the scene beyond their gathering for Xue Ying and Jing Qiu. The damaged source therefore confirms Dong Bo Lie's progression and residence without supplying his breakthrough method, Deity rank, combat applications, or later personal decisions. Chapter 1384 later has Xue Ying think of his father among the dead lives of his Origin World's history whom he can restore after becoming its master. This supports that Dong Bo Lie died sometime after the last surviving direct scene, but neither the time nor cause is supplied. Xue Ying states that he can move such souls from the era of their death into the present and thinks “There is a chance,” yet the chapter ends without showing Dong Bo Lie revived; his latest evidenced state is therefore deceased with restoration newly possible, not confirmed alive again. Appearance and personality

At the opening, Dong Bo Lie is a sturdy middle-aged man with black hair and black eyes who carries a weapon box. His robust build matches his Heaven Rank Knight status and lets him demonstrate strength to Xue Ying by throwing a stone roughly a hundred meters, through a tree trunk, and into a fleeing deer. Captivity changes that presentation: reports say he loses weight, and at rescue he wears tattered common clothing, is drenched in sweat from work, and appears spiritless and awkward after two decades of labor. (Chapters 1, 33, and 90)

Dong Bo Lie is affectionate, proud, and demanding as a father. He names his territory after Xue Ying, delights in showing the boy a Heaven Rank Knight's strength, and confidently predicts that his son will do better than he did. His punishments and repetitions are deliberately severe, but he spends money on training methods, equipment, and recovery baths rather than demanding effort without support. Xue Ying's later memory of his father's scolding becomes a source of self-discipline, while Dong Bo Lie's praise after the rescue gives the grown son an unusually direct sense of satisfaction. He is also loyal and resilient without being indiscriminately vengeful. He accepts the risk of remaining with Mo Yang Yu, endures labor and calculated torture by holding to the possibility of survival, and asks Xue Ying to spare uninvolved members of her birth clan. His courage is tempered by domestic humor: after the rescue he is prepared to manage a county, but in old age he laughs at his wife's cultivation advice and backs down at one glare. Abilities and cultivation

Dong Bo Lie's cultivation originates in military service. He begins training Qi at twenty as a commoner, learns a lower-grade army method, and eventually reaches the Heaven Rank Knight level. That rank supplies a strong physique and Qi, but remains within the mortal tier; it does not grant flight, immunity to accumulated injury, or the ability to resist higher-ranked mages and knights. His later advancement to Deity is stated only in a fragment and cannot be reconstructed from the supplied chapters. (Chapters 1–3, 32, 90, and 780)

Knight strength and field experience

As a Heaven Rank Knight, Dong Bo Lie can throw a small stone through a large tree and kill a deer about a hundred meters away, command armed retainers, and assess the threat presented by a Meteor Knight. His adventuring past includes repeated life-and-death encounters, and his later willingness to administer Azure River County rests on that experience and his orderly management of Snow Eagle Territory. These scenes establish physical force, judgment, and leadership, but they do not provide a named personal combat technique or a representative duel won by Dong Bo Lie. (Chapters 1–3, 29, and 97)

His durability is substantial but finite. Heaven-grade Qi keeps his body powerful enough for heavy workshop labor, and he survives years of abuse that would kill an ordinary prisoner. The same evidence explicitly shows the limit: forced labor plus targeted torture exceeds what his body can recover from naturally, requiring hostile doctors to keep him barely healed, and twenty years leave him exhausted and diminished. Persistence, not invulnerability or a hidden recovery art, explains the survival shown. (Chapters 32–34, 78, and 90)

Spear foundation and instruction

Dong Bo Lie practices spear arts and teaches Xue Ying the Soul Spear Technique as a foundation. His method emphasizes stance, whole-body force, repeated thrusts, moving throws, daily consistency, and training near the body's current limit. He also purchases the Three Stage Flame Technique to replace his own inferior army Qi method in Xue Ying's education and uses medicinal baths to make the resulting workload recoverable. These are practical teaching applications; the corpus does not say that Dong Bo Lie himself masters the higher stages of either method. (Chapters 1, 3, and 5)

The family's Transcendent spear manual confirms that Dong Bo Lie's basic instruction is technically sound. He tells Xue Ying that his foundation matches the book and restricts the inheritance to the family and the companions present when it was obtained. When Xue Ying studies the manual, he recognizes that his father's form follows the same technique but lacks the Transcendent projection's mastery. Dong Bo Lie therefore functions as the bridge to a higher inheritance without being shown reaching its Drifting Snow, Blood Rain, or Dark Ice realms himself. (Chapters 3 and 5)

Later progression and latest state

Xue Ying supplies his family with Transcendent Spirit Liquid after the reunion, explaining that it heals bodily and soul injuries and can aid cultivation and extend mortal life. Dong Bo Lie is among the intended users, but the text does not attribute a specific breakthrough to the liquid. The only later rank statement is Chapter 780's brief declaration that he and the surrounding family members have been Deities for more than ten thousand years; no origin, mechanics, abilities, costs, or comparative strength for his Deity cultivation survive in the local corpus. His latest evidenced condition is no longer a cultivation state he personally exercises. By Chapter 1384, Xue Ying's thoughts include his father among deceased beings whose historical souls the new Origin World master can restore. This means Dong Bo Lie's prior Deity status did not make him Chaotic Origin or prevent death; it also means restoration depends entirely on Xue Ying's new authority rather than Dong Bo Lie's own technique.
