About the novel

Extra's Descent follows an unnamed reader after death places him inside a fantasy novel as Brandon Locke, a minor student whose future should be unimportant. He never finished the original ending, and the plot begins changing almost as soon as he intervenes. An unstable System, Skill Weaver, and knowledge of approaching calamities give him tools to survive while making certainty impossible.

Astrea Academy, the Everglade, curses, Primordials, and wars involving Sovereign powers bind Brandon to people he initially regarded as fictional. Secret identities and morally compromising choices protect companions while making honest relationships more difficult. The effort to remain an “extra” collapses as his Creation-related authority becomes central to events the original story never prepared him to face.

World and magic

Students develop mana, affinities, combat arts, armaments, circuits, and specialized abilities through academies and military institutions. Nobility and imperial power influence access, while curses and Primordial factions operate beneath the public curriculum. Gates, calamities, and regions with different magical conditions require teams whose abilities can stabilize one another.

Brandon's System supports skill construction and integration but is unreliable enough that experimentation carries real risk. The Sovereign of Creation, curse affinity, Phantasm, and Permafrost represent powers with different origins and constraints. Sovereign Fragments and higher authorities make personal identity part of progression, because integrating conceptual power can change the person who is supposed to control it.
