Okullos

Okullos is a nature-aligned Grand Duke and one of Randalph Brigsiel's most unpredictable rivals. His search for knowledge progresses from perceptive nature skills to forbidden soul assimilation, demon predation, and the summoning of Contegonom. Randalph kills him in his Brazilian dungeon, after which Pandemonium absorbs his surviving faction.

Biography

The unreadable grand duke of nature

Okullos first appears among the four Grand Dukes at the Demon World Auction, where his faction remains separate from the other claimants. He calmly bids one hundred thousand points for Krasla, but Randalph doubles the offer and takes the dark elf. Randalph's memories of the failed timeline make Okullos especially difficult to forecast: unlike Ariel and Upa, he favors strategy over open destruction and seems interested only in selected opportunities rather than the devil's seat itself. (Chapters 27–32, 48–54, and 64–69)

That selectiveness conceals a capacity to profit from unusual events. In Randalph's first life, Okullos was the only demon known to obtain the world tree and used its advantages to acquire exceptional creatures, although Randalph never learned how he secured it. In the new timeline, Okullos answers his vassal Dellat's request for help and enters Korea with three dukes. His intervention protects his faction but also places him directly against the masked Randalph, whose identity he recognizes immediately. (Chapters 64–76 and 94–99)

The arm traded for knowledge

During their first duel, Okullos attacks through a giant stalk, searching branches, and a rooted Naturalization form. Pending Question attempts to identify Randalph's weakness, but Mind's Eye and intelligence calibration resist it. Naturalization then lets Okullos perceive what he calls the essence of life, leading him to declare that his opponent is not Randalph Brigsiel. This is Okullos's perception, not proof of a replacement; Randalph privately connects the suspicion to changes caused by his own return to the past. (Chapters 98–99)

Okullos requests a truce when both fighters' temporary states near their limits. He accepts that Wrath, coated with Dark Sword, has permanently severed his right arm, judging the information gained more valuable than the limb. When he returns one-armed at the next auction, he draws Randalph into using Mind's Eye and counters it with Eyes of the World, exposing Randalph's information instead. Randalph suspects that the Epic skill evolved from Pending Question, but the corpus does not independently confirm that lineage. (Chapters 98–101 and 115–117)

Assimilation and the predator doctrine

At that auction, Okullos spends the combined points of twelve subordinate demons because their souls have been assimilated with his. Pandemonium identifies the changed magical flow and calls the practice self-destructive; the narration describes soul assimilation as a forbidden process with no successful precedent. Okullos instead claims Naturalization balances the unstable souls and frames the experiment as one route beyond ordinary demonic limits. His claim that certain Grand Dukes can cross an evolutionary “line” remains his doctrine, not an established law of the setting. (Chapter 118)

The assimilation has observable effects without proving Okullos's theory. His twelve demons move as one, can act as channels through which he observes events, and begin losing their separate identities; the shared condition even leaves one vassal awkwardly affected by Okullos's missing right arm. Okullos then launches simultaneous attacks, has demons dragged into his dungeon, and gains the title Demon Predator by consuming his own kind. Randalph interprets this escalation and Okullos's more dramatic behavior as damage from the assimilation, but that causal diagnosis remains Randalph's inference. (Chapters 120–125)

Contegonom, death, and a stolen faction

Okullos turns his Brazilian dungeon into the site of a ritual built on hundreds of thousands of human skulls. The sacrifice summons a mountain-sized shadow from nothingness: Contegonom, whom Okullos calls a god trapped beyond the world. When Randalph invades, Okullos combines Naturalization with two copies made from consumed demons while Contegonom seizes creatures through shadow. The ritual undeniably brings Contegonom into the battle, but Okullos's statements do not establish that he created the being or controlled it completely. (Chapters 125–127)

Randalph's Corruption form overwhelms the copies and escapes the forest-scale attack created when Okullos recalls them. Eyes of the World cannot follow the transformed Randalph, who reaches the naturalized body's heart and destroys it with Wrath and the Emperor's Sword. Chapter 129 explicitly confirms Okullos's death. His last orders keep part of the faction moving briefly, but Pandemonium later absorbs the remnants; by Chapter 222, the twelve former vassals have lost themselves and serve as Pandemonium's puppet limbs, making Okullos's promised evolution a legacy of erased identities rather than demonstrated transcendence. Appearance and personality

The corpus does not provide a stable full portrait of Okullos. It repeatedly emphasizes his cool eyes, restrained expressions, and slight or derisive smile. Randalph permanently severs his right arm in their first duel, and Okullos subsequently appears one-armed. Naturalization changes his battle silhouette more dramatically: roots enter the ground, branches emerge from his body, and he becomes an immobile tree-like center for the surrounding vegetation. Before the assimilation, Okullos is selective, patient, eccentric, and difficult even for Randalph to read. He will sacrifice a limb for information and spend little unless a subject genuinely interests him. After joining souls with his vassals, he laughs openly, preaches evolution, demands godlike devotion, consumes demons, and pursues increasingly destructive experiments. The change in conduct is clear; whether assimilation alone causes it, as Randalph believes, is not independently settled. (Chapters 64–69, 94–100, and 115–125)

Abilities and powers

Okullos is a Grand Duke whose demonstrated powers combine nature authority, information gathering, forbidden manipulation of demonic souls, and large-scale dungeon warfare. His latest personal progression ends with his death before any claimed transformation beyond demonkind is confirmed.

Nature authority and Naturalization

Mind's Eye identifies Okullos as the holder of the Epic titles One Who Deals With Nature and Master of the Largest Forest Olmot. Their listed bonuses raise intelligence, magic power, and all statistics, while his uniqueness lets him hear the heartbeat of the forest and marks him as the only demon then dealing with nature. Nature's Punishment raises a huge green stalk from the ground, and his body can generate branches that intercept attacks. (Chapters 98–99)

Naturalization drives roots into the earth and turns Okullos into an immobile tree-like combatant. The lost mobility buys formidable offense and defense: grass and stalks reshape the battlefield, thousands of branches attack or restrain targets, and damaged naturalized parts can be replaced. The technique is not absolute despite the narration's initial description. Dark Sword prevents cut growth from healing, Okullos's temporary transformation has a duration, and an airborne opponent can pass above the forest to strike its heart. (Chapters 98–99 and 127–129)

Okullos later folds two demon copies into the Naturalization network. Each copy can use the same skills and exert destructive power comparable to the original, allowing three coordinated bodies to pressure Randalph. Their limitation is crucial: unlike the central naturalized Okullos, the copies cannot replace destroyed parts. Recalling them expands the formation into a much larger forest attack, but concentrating the network also gives Randalph a route to the central heart. (Chapters 127–128)

Pending Question and Eyes of the World

Pending Question is a Unique-grade investigative skill that looks for a target's weakness. Against Randalph, Mind's Eye detects the intrusion and, together with intelligence calibration, defends successfully, showing that the search can be noticed and resisted through sufficient perception and attributes. Naturalization also gives Okullos a claimed view of life's essence, but his resulting judgments are perceptions rather than an infallible disclosure of objective identity. (Chapters 98–99)

Eyes of the World is an Epic perception skill demonstrated months later. It reads and reflects Randalph's Mind's Eye, defeats his partial resistance, and reveals his details to Okullos; in battle it also helps Okullos read ordinary movement. Randalph calls it a probable evolution of Pending Question because it was absent in his first life, but that origin is an inference. Its upper limit appears against Randalph's Corruption form, whose movements it can no longer follow. (Chapters 117 and 128)

Soul assimilation and demon predation

Okullos assimilates the souls of twelve vassals, gaining access to their auction points and coordinating the group as if it were one body. The link also carries perceptions and physical irregularities across its members: a subordinate can speak in Okullos's cadence and suffers unfamiliarity on the side corresponding to Okullos's severed arm. These are demonstrated interactions, but the corpus does not map every transfer rule or show that Okullos can freely use every vassal's personal skill. (Chapters 118 and 120–121)

The cost is explicit and severe. Soul assimilation is a Demon World taboo with no recorded successful case, the subordinate identities progressively disappear, and the resulting twelve are later described as puppets. Okullos says Naturalization balances the instability and treats the process as evolutionary, while Pandemonium and Randalph expect ruin. Because Okullos is killed soon afterward, his claim of stable transcendence is never tested; the surviving vassals instead lose themselves completely under Pandemonium. (Chapters 118–125 and 222)

Demon Predator is the title Okullos gains after consuming fellow demons dragged into his dungeon. The predation increases the danger that he may continue growing and lets him shape two consumed demons into copies of himself, but the corpus does not provide a numerical growth rule. Destroying those copies and the naturalized heart defeats the demonstrated benefits, and death stops Okullos before a later version of the ability appears. (Chapters 125 and 127–129)

Contegonom's summoning and dungeon warfare

Okullos completes a magic-circle ritual across a plain covered by at least hundreds of thousands of human skulls, summoning Contegonom as a shadow of nothingness. This is a prepared ritual with a vast sacrificial cost, not a quick personal attack. Okullos calls himself the summoner and says Contegonom is in his hands, yet the entity speaks and pursues its own divine ambitions; the exact command relationship is therefore unresolved. (Chapters 125–127)

His broader tactics include a dungeon populated by enormous numbers of ant creatures, simultaneous assaults on rival dungeons, and attacks timed while senior demons attend the auction. The offensive disperses defenders and acquires victims for predation, but its information is imperfect: Okullos mistakes the Chinese dungeon for Randalph's headquarters after tracing the severed arm Randalph deliberately throws there. Randalph defeats that expedition, then uses the opening to invade Brazil and kill him. (Chapters 101 and 120–129)

• Randalph Brigsiel: The rival Okullos studies most intently. Their first duel costs Okullos an arm, his later experiments seek a path beyond Randalph's growth, and their final battle ends in Okullos's confirmed death.
• Contegonom: A shadow from nothingness brought into the world by Okullos's mass-sacrifice ritual. Okullos presents him as a summoned god under his command, but Contegonom displays an independent will and survives his summoner.
• Dellat: A vassal whose request for reinforcement draws Okullos into his first direct confrontation with Randalph.
• Pandemonium: A fellow strategic Grand Duke who recognizes the soul-assimilation taboo, rejects Okullos's evolutionary claim, and later absorbs his surviving faction and twelve emptied vassals.
