Murkel Dockthron
Murkel Dockthron is the head elder of the Erupting Fist Clan, principal of the Dark Faction Academy, and the Dark Faction's de facto leader. Initially presented as a peak middle-stage Pagna warrior nearing the Deity rank, he manipulates the academy and faction tournament to advance secret Hybrid experiments. His rivalry with Raze Cromwell exposes a red crystal body, copied martial arts, Dark Magic, and a system layered over his native cultivation; he later dies restraining Enaxx so Raze can kill them both.
Biography
Principal of the Dark Faction
Murkel enters the academy as its principal and the strongest public authority among the Dark Faction's clans. He is already at the top of the middle stage and regarded as the warrior closest to Deity rank within the faction. Because the Erupting Fist Clan also provides the academy's greatest political weight, his educational office doubles as de facto faction leadership even though no formal faction head exists. (Chapters 78–150)
Raze draws Murkel's attention during the assessments. Murkel first recognizes unusual danger in the low-ranked student's concealed attacks, then allows spectacles that increase academy funding while privately tracking the threat. His concern is neither a teacher's care nor simple caution: he treats talented students as assets or variables within a structure designed to strengthen his own position, while his grandson Mada and other clan heirs remain pieces in the same hierarchy. (Chapters 136–150)
Assessments as instruments of control
The five main clans finance and govern the academy, but Murkel's combined offices let him shape their information. During later assessments he monitors survival from above while concealing what happens underground, and he permits conditions that turn students into expendable test subjects. His immediate pressure is maintaining authority while identifying powers connected to Bofan and the emerging Dark Magus, both of which could challenge the history on which his legitimacy rests. (Chapters 249–327)
When portal beasts devastate the academy, Murkel prioritizes the hidden disturbance and Raze's movements over rescuing students and teachers. Survivors learn that his connections extend across the Dark Faction, making flight safer than an internal complaint. He then calls the main clans together and controls the account of the crisis. The result is an academy whose official protector has converted disaster into another opportunity to isolate enemies and preserve his secret program. (Chapters 370–480)
Tournament coup
At the inter-faction tournament, Murkel presents himself as the Dark Faction's leader while manipulating matches, students, and rival adults toward a planned coup. Raze's disguised participation fascinates him because the fighter's techniques recall Bofan, the founder whose legacy Murkel covets and resents. Murkel wants more than victory over another faction: he intends to secure power sufficient to eclipse both ordinary Pagna limits and the historical figure against whom he measures himself. (Chapters 610–655)
The conspiracy becomes open violence when Raze and the rescue coalition interfere. Murkel attacks students and clan leaders, exposes abilities incompatible with his public identity, and turns the tournament ground into a battlefield. Amir, Dame Narfous, Alba, and other former subordinates oppose him, showing that fear-based control has destroyed the loyalty his office was meant to command. The faction begins evacuating around Raze rather than rallying behind its principal. (Chapters 655–686)
The red Hybrid revealed
Murkel's native cultivation is only the foundation of his hidden arsenal. He unveils a red crystal-covered Hybrid form built through otherworlder and beast experimentation, supported by a system and magic that ordinary Pagna warriors do not possess. The transformed body grows armor, weapons, and shields from living crystal, regenerates severe damage, and warns him through vibration. These functions let him survive coordinated attacks that would kill an unmodified peak warrior. (Chapters 686–733)
He also reproduces techniques associated with multiple clans and Bofan, combining them with Dark Magic and his altered body. Raze rejects Murkel's claim to the founder's legacy because copying motions and formations does not reproduce the choices or mastery behind them. Their conflict is an identity mirror: both combine Pagna and magic, but Murkel accumulates stolen systems to dominate while Raze increasingly uses hybrid knowledge to preserve allies. (Chapters 724–742)
Raze's Divine Summoning Chalice allows the Bloody Woman to take his body and overwhelm Murkel's regeneration. Murkel survives only because Light Faction interference creates an opening, then abandons the academy and Dark Faction rather than die for the regime he built. His escape confirms the limit of the crystal body: repeated destruction and power at the Bloody Woman's level can outpace its repair even when lesser attacks cannot. (Chapters 742–759)
Exile through the crystal portal
Cornered after the arena, Murkel cuts himself with a red crystal and uses blood to open a portal. The mechanism appears tied to his Hybrid crystals, but the corpus does not fully explain its destination control or cost. He emerges in a mage-filled dimension, recognizes that the arrivals are not Pagna warriors, and massacres them because he regards discovery as a threat rather than seeking negotiation. Survival replaces faction rule as his immediate priority. (Chapters 759–765)
Murkel's disappearance leaves Raze and Amir to rebuild the Dark Faction, while Murkel remains alive outside Pagna's immediate pursuit. The local evidence does not document every step of his exile or a continuous rise in power. When he later returns to the Pagna war, his red Hybrid traits, copied arts, magic, and native Qi remain available, but their intervening progression should be treated as unknown rather than assumed. (Chapters 766–1200)
Enaxx and a final choice
Murkel reappears during the war against Alter with rage focused on Enaxx, whose actions have killed Murkel's family. He fights multiple elemental copies and temporarily shares an enemy with Raze. This is not a full reconciliation or moral absolution: Murkel still acts from personal hatred and loss, yet the former principal now fights the external power that has devastated the faction he once exploited. (Chapters 1219–1261)
When Enaxx repeatedly splits to escape fatal blows, Murkel grows his living red crystal around one body and holds him in place. Enaxx's heat burns the crystal because it remains part of Murkel, and Murkel understands that Raze's finishing attack will kill both captor and target. He chooses the sacrifice, stating that he wants Enaxx dead more than he wants to live and accepting the death he believes Raze should have given him earlier. (Chapter 1265)
Raze releases Eclipse Strike through Murkel and Enaxx. Murkel's final thought concedes that the Dark Faction may be safe in the Dark Magus's hands, reversing his earlier need to own Bofan's succession and destroy Raze as a rival. The choice does not undo the students sacrificed to his ambitions, but it ends his story with a deliberate consequence: his Hybrid body becomes the restraint that makes Enaxx's death possible. (Chapters 1265–1266)
Appearance and personality
Murkel is introduced with a long black ponytail, silk-like clothing, and the bearing of an established faction ruler. In public he is controlled and observant, watching assessments from above rather than displaying his full strength. His Hybrid form covers him in red crystal and progressively abandons a normal human outline as armor, growths, and regenerated structures become part of his body. (Chapters 78, 370, 691–733)
He is patient, secretive, and intensely status-conscious. Bofan's legacy provokes both imitation and resentment, while Raze's unexpected techniques turn curiosity into obsession. Murkel treats people as instruments until allies and students revolt, yet he is not incapable of attachment: Enaxx's destruction of his family produces rage strong enough to overcome self-preservation. His final concession to Raze is a late change in judgment, not proof that his earlier rule was benevolent. (Chapters 145, 327, 724–759, and 1265)
Magic, cultivation, and abilities
Erupting Fist cultivation
Murkel's original power is Pagna cultivation from the Erupting Fist Clan. Before any transformation is revealed, he is established at the peak of the middle stage, near Deity rank, with exceptional Qi control, body reinforcement, and fist techniques. This native foundation explains his faction authority and remains active beneath later enhancements. The corpus does not establish that the system or crystals granted his initial cultivation rank. (Chapters 78, 144, 383–430)
His Qi includes unusually dense Dark characteristics whose force can pull matter inward, an effect later compared with the gravity-like pressure of Raze's breakthrough. Murkel uses fist arts, projected strikes, and copied clan techniques in close and mid-range combat. Powerful coordinated opponents, Divine-level force, and magic that attacks faster than he can adapt remain effective counters despite his cultivation. (Chapters 640–686, 742–753, and 1728)
Red crystal Hybrid body
Murkel's Hybrid transformation is layered onto, not synonymous with, his Pagna cultivation. Red living crystal spreads across his body to create armor, blades, shields, restraints, and replacement structures. Vibrations warn him of danger, and rapid regeneration lets him recover from repeated physical destruction. The precise beast source and experimental procedure are not completely established, so the body should be described by demonstrated effects rather than assigned an unsupported species. (Chapters 691–733)
Regeneration has limits. The Bloody Woman repeatedly destroys him faster than he can restore himself, Enaxx's heat burns crystal wrapped around the mage, and Raze's final Eclipse Strike annihilates captor and captive together. The crystal can also use Murkel's blood to open a portal, though the corpus leaves its range and targeting unclear. His latest use turns growth into a sacrificial restraint rather than protection. (Chapters 742–765 and 1265–1266)
System, copied arts, and magic
Murkel possesses a system connected to his Hybrid experimentation and uses it alongside copied martial arts. He reproduces techniques belonging to several factions and forms associated with Bofan, broadening his tactical catalogue beyond Erupting Fist training. Copying provides usable motions and combinations, but Raze identifies differences between imitation and the founder's actual legacy. The corpus does not establish that Murkel permanently acquires every copied user's cultivation or personal affinity. (Chapters 640–646, 724, and 742)
He also wields Dark Magic and other mage-like effects, integrating them with Qi and crystal constructs. This magic is separate from his innate Pagna foundation and becomes public only when the tournament coup strips away his principal's disguise. Its exact core structure and acquisition are not fully explained. It gives Murkel unusual range and versatility, yet does not prevent the Bloody Woman from overpowering him or Enaxx's elemental copies from pressuring him. (Chapters 667–753 and 1219–1265)
Minor capabilities include academy command, faction politics, assessment surveillance, and planning large-scale traps. These are consequential skills rather than supernatural effects, and their failure is relational: secrecy secures short-term control while driving students, teachers, and clan allies into Raze's coalition. (Chapters 249–480 and 610–686)
Power progression

| Sacrificial crystal restraint; death | 1265–1266 | Grows the living crystal around Enaxx and holds him for Raze's Eclipse Strike, knowingly sacrificing himself so the Grand Magus cannot split away. |
Relationships
- Raze Cromwell: Murkel first studies Raze as a dangerous student, then treats him as a rival for Bofan's legacy and the Dark Faction. Their mirrored hybrid power systems diverge in purpose. Murkel ultimately trusts Raze to kill Enaxx and concedes the faction may be safe under him.
- Bofan: Bofan is the absent standard Murkel wants to surpass and appropriate. Murkel copies parts of his legacy, but his obsession exposes insecurity rather than confirming equivalence.
- Amir: Amir serves within Murkel's academy while secretly organizing Bonum opposition. Their conflict culminates in the tournament revolt and the rebuilding of the Dark Faction without Murkel.
- Mantis: Mantis is a Hybrid subordinate or product of the same hidden program. His eventual opposition demonstrates Murkel's failure to turn experimental dependence into loyalty.
- Enaxx: Enaxx becomes Murkel's final target after killing his family. Murkel sacrifices himself to prevent the Grand Magus from splitting away from Raze's finishing attack.
- Mada: Mada is Murkel's grandson and an academy heir. Murkel watches his conflicts as part of the institution's hierarchy, but the corpus gives limited evidence of private affection between them.
Items
Murkel uses red crystals, a system interface, and tournament infrastructure, but the corpus treats the crystals primarily as part of his Hybrid body rather than a separately inventoried possession. No finalized notable-item page is linked to him in the supplied item scope.
