Da Sheng

Da Sheng, also called the Da Sheng Halberd, is an ancient treasure taken from the Green Pine Grotto Heaven and reserved for Zhouwei. Initially an unusually potent dharma artifact, it was later refined at the Viewing Pavilion into a spirit embryo whose light and projections scale with its wielder's Bright Yang divine abilities. (Chapters 778–779 and 1525)

History

A grotto treasure reserved for a compatible descendant

Da Sheng had been forged by members of Green Pine Temple and placed within their grotto heaven, where it was nourished for centuries by the world's unified spiritual qi. Before its name was known, Miao Ye and Situ Chen contested the deep-gold halberd on a mountain peak. Yu Muxian recognized an ancient Wei State artifact aligned with Bright Yang, while Tang Shedu coveted it. Tang already carried a separate fighting halberd; that weapon was distinct from the grotto treasure. (Chapters 605 and 778–779)

After the grotto conflict, Xiao Yongling handed the golden treasure to Xuanfeng, who accepted it for the Li Family. Xuanfeng subsequently presented it to his relatives as an ancient Bright Yang artifact. Miao Ye later recognized it beside Ximing and understood that Xuanfeng had secured the treasure Tang wanted. (Chapters 614, 618, and 779)

Chengliao showed the halberd to Zhouwei while the boy was still too young to wield it. Its weight taxed even Chengliao's Qi Cultivation strength, but Zhouwei immediately preferred it to the other weapons offered. Chengliao explained that Ximing had failed to gain its recognition and had left it for Zhouwei. He stored it again and arranged for the boy to train with a wooden halberd until he was ready. (Chapters 650–651)

The Li Family preserved it on a sealed stone platform for ten years. The halberd's radiance would have reduced the unprotected platform to white sand, so a Bright Yang formation contained it. Ximing briefly tried it, but even his Bright Yang foundation produced only faint light; he neither refined nor claimed it. The family instead reserved it for Zhouwei despite other members' need for better artifacts. (Chapter 778)

At the fifth stage of Qi Cultivation, Zhouwei approached and drew it from the platform. Its hidden characters revealed the name Da Sheng, and it eagerly absorbed his mana. Though he could not yet release its full power, its response showed an exceptional compatibility. He soon lent its imposing presence to Ximing for a meeting with Miao Ye, using the visible halberd to invoke Xuanfeng's reputation and deter a devil lineage. (Chapters 778–779)

A weapon whose full force required cultivation

After Zhouwei reached Foundation Establishment, Da Sheng became central to his fighting. In a test against Kongheng, its scorching invisible light drove away curious demonic creatures, while flame from its central arc clothed Zhouwei in radiance and propelled his attack. Its hooked blade caught Kongheng's staff and subjected it to Radiant Light flame, though Kongheng's practiced methods let him break free. (Chapter 957)

The weapon could also suffer damage. After later fighting, its blade was slightly misaligned, rather than the whole artifact ruined. Divine-ability nourishment and the smiths' work restored it, and Zhouwei received it back before considering a greater transformation. This distinguishes a completed repair from the further spirit-embryo refinement he then planned. (Chapter 1466)

Refinement at the Viewing Pavilion

Zhouwei selected Da Sheng as the first of his Foundation Establishment treasures to nurture into a spirit embryo. He placed it at the Viewing Pavilion, where Chu Minglian and the family's cultivators worked on it. While it remained there, Zhouwei sometimes fought with a different, temporary halberd; that weapon was not another name or form of Da Sheng. (Chapters 1467, 1485, and 1504–1505)

Ning Wan accelerated the work by sending additional Foundation Establishment cultivators. The pavilion's Refining Within Fire technique could accommodate twelve assistants, whereas the family had previously rotated six. On Zhouwei's return, Minglian reported that the weapon had reached the final nurturing stage. Zhouwei supplied Bright Yang divine-ability mana himself, completed that last step, and received the finished halberd as golden light condensed into his hand. (Chapter 1525)

They considered whether it had once been a spirit embryo sealed by an ancient method and later diminished through changes in Bright Yang fruition. This remained an explanation they entertained, rather than a confirmed account of its original condition. Its present completion, however, was demonstrated by the new functions it immediately revealed. (Chapter 1525)

A completed spirit embryo in later battles

Zhouwei put the finished weapon into immediate service and continued to wield it alongside the Brilliant Yang King's Axe. He could hold Da Sheng while using a free hand to draw the axe, combining the halberd's reach and light with the other artifact's functions. (Chapters 1525 and 1529)

He later combined it with Armor Cycle Soul Refining Halberd Art, sending it hovering toward Changxiao's mountain gate amid black flames. In another battle, silver lightning chains caught its blade; the weapon's burst of golden light nearly broke the restraint, but the enemy renewed his expenditure to hold it. Zhouwei ultimately forced an opening and struck Li Muyan with the halberd. After the costly northern-bank fighting, Da Sheng remained in his hand as he steadied his wounded body. (Chapters 1652, 1694, and 1707)

Abilities and properties

Ancient radiance and physical strength

Da Sheng is deep gold with a crescent-like curved blade and a luminous arc at its center. Its ancient forging and long nourishment gave it extraordinary sharpness and durability, while its earlier sheltered existence left it comparatively free of bloodlust. The long residence in the grotto was understood to exceed five centuries, rather than precisely dated. (Chapter 778)

Infused with mana, it emitted invisible white light that made those exposed feel as though they stood under a scorching sun, provoking heat, sweat, and restlessness. A Bright Yang Immortal Foundation could activate the brilliance in its central arc to clothe the wielder in divine light, support movement upon brightness, and seize flame. Zhouwei's test against Kongheng demonstrates its use for both intimidation and a fast, flame-supported attack. These effects required a suitably advanced wielder; his earlier Qi Cultivation could not draw out its full potential. (Chapters 778 and 957)

Effect Attachment and Gathering Radiance

Spirit-embryo refinement developed its former light infusion into Effect Attachment. Bright Yang light empowers the weapon and forms a radiant halberd projection that can split into light forms to fend off enemies. This is an added function of the refined weapon, distinct from Zhouwei's separate halberd arts. (Chapter 1525)

Gathering Radiance concentrates the former scorching illumination into tangible Gathering Radiance White Light nurtured within its core. A released strand does not immediately disperse if it misses; it follows the movement of the weapon. The number of strands that can be released at once depends on how many Bright Yang divine abilities its wielder has cultivated, so further personal attainment increases the weapon's available output. (Chapter 1525)

As a completed spirit embryo, it can condense into golden light and disappear into Zhouwei's palm. It remains subject to opposing restraints and the conditions of battle: Li Muyan's renewed divine-ability expenditure could hold it even after a burst of light nearly freed it. Its strength does not eliminate the need for Zhouwei to create and exploit openings. (Chapters 1525 and 1694)
