Xiao Yongling

Xiao Yongling is a courteous senior of the Xiao Family who becomes an old friend of Li Tongya and a steady ally to the Li. His concern for that family is visible even in defeat and loss. In later years, he prepares a Purple Mansion breakthrough around the Eastern Feather Mountain Dao, as part of a plan involving Mount Xianyou. (Chapters 48, 610, 715, 1050, 1500)

Biography

An ally whose concern outlasts a battle

Yongling represents Xiao interests while building a practical relationship with the Li Family. He understands the imbalance between sects and smaller clans, yet treats Li Tongya as a friend rather than merely a useful subordinate. In the Green Pine Grotto Heaven, he gives a medicinal pill to the mortally wounded Li Yuanjiao even though he knows it cannot save him; afterward he offers condolences to Li Xuanfeng and speaks frankly about how the years of war have changed him. His gesture cannot reverse the loss, but it marks his regard for the family beyond a political alliance. (Chapters 48, 71–72, 610, 613–614)

A breakthrough tied to Eastern Feather Mountain

Yongling’s family later says that he has entered seclusion to attempt a Purple Mansion breakthrough. He cultivates the Eastern Feather Mountain branch of the Capital Guard Dao, and Xiao Chuting’s account explains that the Xiao family prepared formations on Mount Xianyou so the mountain’s ascension phenomenon could be used in Yongling’s breakthrough plan. The later account says the scheme succeeded, but does not establish whether Yongling himself survived or attained Purple Mansion. (Chapters 1050, 1500)

Appearance and personality

Yongling appears as a middle-aged man in flowing white robes, with a sword at his waist. He is measured and well informed about Dao lineages, but speaks to friends with warmth and restraint; on the snowy peak, he urges Li Xuanfeng and Kong Tingyun not to overread family ancestry or assume that present power guarantees future success. (Chapters 715–716)

Abilities and cultivation

Yongling had reached the Profound Scenery stage when he first met the Li Family. By the later accounts he cultivates Eastern Feather Mountain within the Capital Guard Dao and has prepared for a Purple Mansion breakthrough. His mountain formations form part of a specific ascension scheme. Whether he ever completes the Purple Mansion breakthrough remains unknown. (Chapters 48, 1050, 1500)

Relationships

• Li Tongya is his old friend, and Yongling’s relationship with Tongya’s descendants carries both personal concern and Xiao–Li alliance ties. (Chapters 48, 715)
• Li Xuanfeng receives Yongling’s counsel and condolences after the battle in the Grotto Heaven. (Chapters 613–614, 715)
• Xiao Chuting is the senior of his family whose later account describes the breakthrough plan. (Chapter 1500)
