Guo Hongyao

Guo Hongyao is a privileged direct descendant of Crimson Reef Immortal Island whose attempt to claim Xu Xiao and his spirit artifact brings her into conflict with the Li Family. Her lasting resentment makes her a willing attacker and an exploitable piece in Tianwan’s later schemes. (Chapters 541–543, 920–926)

Biography

Privilege, humiliation, and a fatal pursuit

Sent to investigate Xu Xiao, Hongyao claims him as an island disciple and demands that Li Wushao kill himself, that Li Xijun apologize, and that Li Yuanjiao come personally to offer compensation. Her ostensible defense of the island conceals her desire for Xu Xiao’s Six Ding Merging Fire Token. When he refuses to surrender the recognized artifact, she turns her impatience against Xijun, seizes his sword, and points it at his throat. Li Qinghong’s intervention destroys Hongyao’s control of the encounter: Xu Xiao is killed, her own techniques are disrupted, and she must retrieve the token from his corpse and escape using its costly fire. Tianwan later reveals that the original mission sought to use Xu Xiao’s destiny to elevate a junior, giving the failed confrontation a purpose beyond Hongyao’s personal greed. (Chapters 541–543, 926)

Years later Hongyao helps escort the Radiant Sky Stone with Guo Hongkang after her brother Guo Hongjian unexpectedly leaves the convoy. Already embittered by her broken engagement, failed management of islands, and the humiliation at Moongaze Lake, she abandons the escort to pursue Xijun as soon as she recognizes him. Her stronger mana and Merging Fire appear to overwhelm his frost arts, but he draws her dangerously close and suddenly strikes with sword essence. Her life-saving treasure enables her to reattach her severed head; instead of fleeing, she attempts another defense, which Xijun interrupts before killing her. He then assumes her appearance to approach Hongkang. Tianwan’s deliberately arranged deployment turns Hongyao’s rashness and death into leverage against the Lis, while Hongyao’s final realization comes too late: survival required retreat, not repairing her head within her opponent’s reach. (Chapters 920–923, 925–926)

Appearance and personality

Hongyao wears red and is described as beautiful, with a delicate face and elegant hands. Raised in luxury and indulged by her elder brothers, she expects obedience and takes disagreement as an affront. Her mortal mother makes her position within the direct lineage somewhat uncomfortable, but her cultivation resources remain lavish. Fury repeatedly overcomes her judgment, although she is capable of recognizing danger and retreating when Qinghong and Wushao threaten to surround her. (Chapters 542–543, 920)

Abilities and cultivation

Merging Fire and defensive treasures

Hongyao’s gray Merging Fire overcomes Xijun’s ordinary cold light and briefly suppresses his sword qi. She rides it swiftly in pursuit, and can turn bitten blood into a denser blast of flame. Her Dao foundation also manifests ribbons of fire and a red radiance that blinds enemies and dulls spiritual senses, allowing her to escape. These advantages depend on room to react: Xijun’s sword essence and close strike penetrate her hastily formed fire wall, while attacks on her inner acupoints interrupt the mana entering her final talisman. (Chapters 543, 920–921)

The Six Ding Merging Fire Token gives her powerful borrowed fire, but its Purple Mansion power drains life and vitality, blisters her hands, and worsens existing injuries. A protective jade pearl reacts too slowly to prevent her decapitation; other lineage protection lets her survive the initial wound and use Merging Fire to fix her head back in place. None prevents Xijun’s ensuing lethal thrust. (Chapters 543, 921)

Items

Hongyao acquires the Six Ding Merging Fire Token after Xu Xiao’s death. She briefly takes Xijun’s Hanlin Sword, which returns to him when Qinghong’s attack forces her attention away. During the later escort she hands the box holding the Radiant Sky Stone to Hongkang before pursuing Xijun. Her Merging Fire robe and a half-activated life-saving talisman fall into Xijun’s hands after her death. (Chapters 542–543, 920, 922, 925)
