Hanlin Sword
Hanlin Sword, also written Han Lin, was forged for Xijun by recasting the captured Dinglin Piercer. It enabled his Threefold Moonlight sword technique and remained loyal enough to resist theft after his death. The family eventually gave it to Xinghan, linking her practice to the earlier swordsman's inheritance. (Chapters 511–512, 517, 522, 927, and 1199–1200)
History
Capturing the weapon that pierced Xijun
Situ Mo struck the young Xijun with the Dinglin Piercer, a seven-chi golden weapon covered in ridges. Xijun avoided its vital trajectory, and Kongheng's intervention reduced the force enough for him to survive. He pulled it from his chest, applied Spirit Sealing Techniques, and froze it with Slaughter Jun Kui Light when Situ Mo tried to recall it. (Chapters 511–512)
The family recovered the weapon but could not safely treat a recognizable Golden Tang artifact as ordinary equipment. It passed through Yuanjiao and Xuanxuan to Xizhi, who commissioned Cheng Jinzhu to recast it as a sword controlled by Xijun's cold true essence. Jinzhu requested the available cold jade or cold stone and reserved the right to name the finished treasure. (Chapters 514, 516–517)
A sword made for Threefold Moonlight
Kongheng delivered the completed Hanlin to Xijun. The blade's inscription glowed as he accepted it, and he immediately used it to execute Threefold Moonlight, producing three crystalline streams that froze and shattered the rock beneath him. Yuanjiao briefly inspected it and judged its material second only to Qingche, then instructed the family to compensate Xizhi for arranging the work. (Chapter 522)
Hanlin remained Xijun's principal sword. When Guo Hongyao temporarily took it, Qinghong's intervention forced her to leave it floating unattended and it returned to him on its own. He later used it against Yu Mujian and in the deadly conflict with the Guo siblings. These episodes show an attuned weapon serving its wielder, while also showing that it could be seized or withheld in battle. (Chapters 541–543, 763, and 921–922)
Protecting a dead owner's inheritance
After Xijun's death, a would-be thief tried to draw Hanlin. It refused to leave the sheath, and its cold radiance cut his hand until he threw it away. The sword remained with the recovered effects brought back to the family, rather than becoming the thief's weapon. (Chapters 927 and 936)
Because Xijun had no descendants, Hanlin remained in family storage. Xuanxuan later selected it as a gift for Xinghan, and Zhouluo communicated the choice to her. She treasured its history and subsequently performed Threefold Moonlight with it, prompting Ximing to recognize the return of that familiar sword light after many years. He also observed that its nature did not fully suit her Jade True Dao and upheld his promise to forge her a more compatible sword. That promise did not establish that Hanlin had already been replaced. (Chapters 1199–1200 and 1386)
Abilities and properties
Hanlin was described at delivery as three chi, nine cun, and three fen long, weighing ninety-two jin and twelve taels. Recast from excellent metal with cold materials, it is bright like flowing water and pure like white frost. Its chilling power supports Xijun's Threefold Moonlight, but the technique remains an achievement of the swordsman rather than an automatic ability bestowed on any holder. (Chapters 517 and 522)
The sword possesses spirituality and a strong attachment to its wielder. It returned when Guo Hongyao abandoned it and actively injured an unauthorized thief trying to unsheathe it. Its cold nature was valuable to Xijun but not an ideal match for Xinghan's Jade True cultivation. Neither its loyalty nor its fine materials prevented Xijun from dying in a stronger surrounding conflict. (Chapters 543, 925, 927, and 1386)
