Chi Zhihu

Chi Zhihu is an elder of the Chi Family’s second lineage. His bid for greater factional authority leads him into an ambush of Li Xizhi whose preparations secretly place Zhihu himself among the intended sacrifices. (Chapters 893–894, 1003–1008)

Biography

Factional ambition inside a rigged trap

Zhihu welcomes Yuanqin’s suggestions that the depleted first lineage should surrender more authority to the second. Ning Hejing’s refusal to appoint their members provokes his resentment, and he supports Fubo’s effort to gain leverage over the sect’s rival households. He later confronts Xizhi at sea with three guest cultivators, a concealed monk, and a prepared formation, expecting that his superior numbers and inherited treasures will make capture straightforward. (Chapters 893–894, 1003)

Xizhi’s unfamiliar Heavenly Glow arts expose Zhihu’s lack of practical combat understanding. Illusions confuse his targeting, a gathering spell steals his talisman, and his recall of a protective beast exposes a companion to a lethal strike. Zhihu blames others rather than recognize the shortcomings of his own preparation. He loses control of the Clear Serenity Mirror and increasingly relies on the absent Liaokong to turn the fight. When the monk does not answer, Zhihu tries to lift the formation and discovers that it will not respond. The unavailable alternative treasures and sealed exit reveal the design behind his apparent bad luck: Fubo and Yuanqin have arranged a trap that can consume him. Buhua’s later entry finds Zhihu and the other victims already dead. (Chapters 1004–1008)

Appearance and personality

Zhihu has a rugged face and a burly build. His smugness gives way to caution when Xizhi shows no fear, then to anger and panic as fine equipment fails to deliver the victory he expects. Experienced companions recognize his poor understanding of spell properties. (Chapters 1003–1005)

Abilities and cultivation

Inherited protections and limited experience

Zhihu’s mid-Foundation cultivation supports powerful artifacts, but he struggles to distinguish Xizhi’s illusions. The Clear Serenity Mirror uses Bright Yang heavenly light, which is mutually obscured with Heavenly Glow and cannot solve that problem. His ancestral jade releases a three-tailed Mangjin Feathered Beast whose breath is deadly to ordinary Foundation cultivators, yet recalling it to protect himself exposes Xia Yun. Xizhi also attacks Zhihu’s spiritual link to the mirror and seizes it. The failure demonstrates how the timing and interactions of protections matter as much as their grade. (Chapters 1003–1005)

Relationships

  • Chi Fubo: Faction leader whose concealed plans make him expendable.
  • Li Yuanqin: Political collaborator involved in controlling the trap.
  • Ning Hejing: Opposes the second lineage’s appointment demands.
  • Li Xizhi: Intended captive whose spell arts defeat his preparations.
  • Chi Buhua: Arrives after his death. (Chapters 894, 1003–1008)

Items

Zhihu carries the Clear Serenity Mirror, an ancestral jade containing the Gold Feathered Beast’s protective manifestation, a needle-shaped dharma artifact, and a Tortoise Shield. The Glimmering Inquiry Mirror and Taiyu Sword are unavailable when he lays the ambush. His formation plate fails to open an exit because the operation has been tampered with. (Chapters 1003–1005)
