Ning Hejing

Ning Hejing used his authority as Yuanxing Peak Master to steer Azure Pond Sect politics, but his effort to turn the sect’s factions against one another ended with his own death.

Biography

A Peak Master in the Sect’s Factional Struggle

Hejing was one of the few Ning Family cultivators still in the sect and a close ally of Chi Zhiyun. As a Foundation Establishment cultivator whose advancement had been difficult, he relied on his position at Yuanxing Peak more than personal strength. When Chi Zhiyun considered how to respond to the growing conflict with the Li Family, Hejing warned that Li Xizhi’s death would bring Li Xuanfeng’s attention, yet proposed escalating the violence against the entire family. He declined to lead such an attack himself, and later refused Chi Fubo’s demand to appoint the second lineage’s people to key posts, choosing instead to preserve the Chi Family’s first lineage’s control. (Chapters 698–700 and 894)

A Plot That Ended on Green Pine Island

Hejing later joined Master Liaokong and Chi Zhihu in a plan to trap Li Xizhi at Reef Sea, hoping to use his death to drive the Chi and Si families into conflict. He trusted Liaokong because their hostility toward the Li Family appeared to align, but Lingu Rao exposed the reversal: Liaokong had been serving Li Yuanqin, while Fei Luoya had been placed nearby to keep Hejing from escaping. Lingu Rao cornered and mortally wounded him on Green Pine Island. Hejing abandoned his own grievance long enough to plead for the Azure Pond Sect’s gentle sect master to be spared before he was killed. (Chapters 1002, 1009 and 1011)

Appearance and personality

Hejing wears red soft armor and carries himself with a cold, overbearing authority. He is politically calculating and willing to risk another family’s destruction, but his final appeal for the sect master reveals a personal loyalty beneath that hard manner. (Chapters 894, 1002 and 1009)

Abilities and cultivation

Hejing reached the Foundation Establishment Realm despite what Chi Zhiyun describes as weak innate ability. His authority comes from commanding Yuanxing Peak and its formation; in direct combat, he is badly outmatched by Lingu Rao and is poisoned by spirit scorpions before he can escape. (Chapters 700, 894 and 1009)

Relationships

  • Chi Zhiyun: His ally in Azure Pond Sect politics, though Chi Zhiyun rebukes him and refuses to commit him to the campaign against Li Xuanfeng. (Chapter 700)
  • Chi Fubo: A leader of the second lineage whose attempts to gain control of the sect Hejing rejects. (Chapter 894)
  • Li Xizhi: A target of Hejing’s plot at Reef Sea, where he hoped Chi Zhihu would kill him. (Chapters 1002 and 1009)
  • Li Yuanqin: A rival political actor whom Hejing suspects of sowing discord, only to learn that Liaokong was Yuanqin’s agent. (Chapters 894 and 1009)

Items

While coordinating with Liaokong, Hejing reads a repeatedly folded letter from inside the sect that reports Chi Fubo’s people have left. The intelligence shapes his calculations about the sect’s factions. (Chapter 1002)
