Chi Buhua
Chi Buhua is an aged, powerful elder of the Chi Family’s second lineage and a trusted aide of Chi Fubo. His effort to capture Li Xizhi ends in defeat when the supposed allies within the trap turn against him. (Chapters 892, 1006–1009)
Biography
The capture scheme turned against its elder
After the Chi first lineage’s losses, Buhua supports efforts to preserve Chi control of Azure Pond. Fubo sends him and six peak masters to capture Xizhi, whom they expect to find isolated by restrictions on the Si and Lingu households. Buhua favors taking the Li cultivator alive because killing him would provoke influential relatives and require expensive concessions. He cultivates Yuanqin’s goodwill as a useful witness and assumes Liaokong’s hostility toward the Lis will make the monk a reliable battlefield partner. (Chapters 892, 1006)
Yuanqin’s warning that the formation admits entry but blocks exit exposes part of Fubo’s willingness to sacrifice Chi Zhihu. Buhua adjusts his precautions, leaving the six cultivators outside with staged instructions and bringing Yuanqin in to test him and exploit Xizhi’s family ties. Inside, however, Yuanqin holds the formation talisman and Liaokong is his ally. When Buhua turns on Yuanqin to seize control, the monk’s pagoda attacks him while Xizhi’s sword and Heavenly Glow strike from concealment. A feint involving a Dawn Rayfish further divides his response. Xizhi knocks his defensive goblet out of spiritual awareness, the pagoda interrupts his spell, and Heavenly Glow destroys his arms before the pagoda pins his body. His carefully calculated superiority fails because he misidentifies who controls the trap. (Chapters 1007–1009)
Appearance and personality
Buhua has gray-white hair and deeply wrinkled features. Usually steady and outwardly genial to useful juniors, he conceals ruthless contingencies beneath courtesy. He understands political risks well but knows only part of Fubo and Yuanqin’s plans, leaving him vulnerable to false assumptions about allies. (Chapters 892, 1006–1008)
Abilities and cultivation
Pristine Water spells and enhanced perception
Buhua’s late Foundation cultivation gives him strong spell reserves. He forms seals and covers his eyes to strengthen a perception art, seeing the formation across the sea and figures moving within Heavenly Glow. His green goblet draws in Pristine Water mana, releases azure light, disperses surrounding Heavenly Glow, and captures an incoming Morning Rainbow Lure. These defenses require timely control and are vulnerable to coordinated interruption. Xizhi targets his arms to prevent spellcasting; disrupting his spiritual connection to the goblet lets Liaokong’s pagoda land and seal him in place. (Chapters 1006–1009)
Relationships
- Chi Fubo: Patron whose plan Buhua only partly understands.
- Li Yuanqin: Witness and supposed subordinate who controls the trap’s talisman.
- Li Xizhi: Intended captive who helps defeat him.
- Chi Zhihu: Elder whose deliberate sacrifice Buhua discovers too late. (Chapters 1006–1009)
Items
His green goblet provides an active Pristine Water defense. A shattered protective jade talisman manifests a three-tailed feathered beast and yellow qi, briefly blocking sword light, while his dharma robe absorbs a pagoda strike but cannot prevent injury and interruption. These protections do not overcome the coordinated ambush. (Chapters 1008–1009)
