Gaud
Gaud is a Crimson Dynasty Esper whose unprecedented Energy Control makes him one of the civilization's most valued cultivation candidates. He is later revealed to be the product of EsGod's one-use rebirth plan, but the rebirth forms a new, complete soul with altered personality rather than simply disguising EsGod's original body. His rapid rise ends when Han Xiao uncovers the secret, imprisons him, and eventually removes the ability on which his future depended.
Biography
The Flickering World
Gaud first presents himself as a talented but relatively new dynasty soldier who survived a Primordial Psionic Energy explosion and earned the attention of a commander. He greets Black Star Army officers with easy admiration, then meets Han Xiao while serving in the Flickering World. His public record is deliberately clean, and his calm manner gives no reason to suspect an older identity. Military merit soon earns him formal placement in the dynasty's key training program, where he is treated as a prospective National Pillar rather than an ordinary Calamity Grade. (Chapters 969–996)
The promise is tied to an ability the dynasty believes could eventually analyze the Evolution Cube's core energy. Gaud accepts the resources and officer status offered to him, keeping his broader purpose concealed while training beside other elite candidates. His apparent humility masks the confidence of someone with much more experience than his current age suggests. The gap between the young public identity and the old consciousness behind it becomes the defining tension of his later career. (Chapters 994–1037)
Intelligent Plague and the Association
The dynasty continues cultivating Gaud partly to reduce its dependence on Han Xiao's monopoly over the Evolutionary Totems. Gaud watches Black Star's status and resources rise with complicated resentment after the Primal Chaos Mysterious Energy intended to accelerate his own growth is taken away. When political tension makes the dynasty postpone the Evolution Cube analysis plan, he is openly displeased but obeys, preserving the lawful direct-member identity that gives him access to training and advanced research. (Chapters 1082–1084, 1144, and 1179)
That patience succeeds in the short term. Gaud reaches Beyond Grade A in less than five years, far faster than the dynasty expected, and becomes the leader of its delegation to Black Star Palace. His goal remains larger than rank alone: he wants to decipher special energies, enter the dynasty's research establishment, and approach data connected to the wormhole EsGod once pursued. Advancement appears to complete his reinvention, giving an infamous consciousness a respected position and a future of nearly unrestricted official support. (Chapters 1179 and 1218–1219)
Sanctum Revival and the Super Crisis
Contact at Black Star Palace exposes the first flaw in the plan. Han Xiao sees abnormal Rebirth-related information in Gaud's attributes and begins testing whether EsGod escaped before his original body was sealed. Gaud believes his disguise remains intact and secretly starts analyzing the Evolution Energy while leaving the palace. The narrative later confirms the truth with an important qualification: EsGod's consciousness fused perfectly with the prepared container into a new soul, retaining memories but changing thoughts and personality. Gaud is therefore a rebirth of EsGod, not merely an active doppelganger or false name. (Chapters 1220–1227)
EsGod had created Energy Control by fusing many Esper abilities, implanted its genetic chain into the clean Gaud identity, and used the one-time Rebirth ability when the Spacetime Amber closed around his original body. Confronted in a sealed secondary dimension, Gaud refuses to admit any connection because confession would justify Han Xiao's attack and destroy the legal protection of his dynasty status. He fights to preserve the future he has built, but his new Beyond Grade A strength is far below Han Xiao's. He is defeated, enclosed in a mechanical prison, and sealed in Spacetime Amber rather than killed. (Chapters 1226–1229)
Imprisonment removes Gaud from public life while leaving the dynasty uncertain about his disappearance. Han Xiao keeps him alive to prevent Sanctum Revival, to preserve room for a future explanation, and to retain the rare Energy Control ability for possible transfer. Gaud's outward career has thus reversed at its apparent triumph: the direct member expected to become a National Pillar is secretly a captive, while the civilization that sponsored him treats his absence as a strategic and political crisis. (Chapters 1227–1235 and 1245–1270)
The World Tree War
Gaud remains imprisoned through most of the World Tree conflict, but his abilities continue to influence other people. Han Xiao uses Energy Analysis to study Hila's death energy and Aurora's life energy, while Gaud's Perfect Energy Affinity Physique improves related research. His theoretical reputation also survives: observers still regard Energy Control as one of the highest-grade Esper abilities and judge that, at equal grade, its versatility could overpower specialists such as Clotti. These are legacies of Gaud's power, not evidence that he is free or fighting in the war. (Chapters 1235, 1305, and 1337)
After Han Xiao reveals the kidnapping to the dynasty, he arranges an exchange involving EsGod's original body. Evans extracts Energy Control from Gaud, leaving him alive but without the ability that drove his rise. Gaud is returned to Crimson Dynasty custody in a severely weakened state and still refuses to admit his origin. The dynasty suppresses his whereabouts and considers whether his power can be restored, while outsiders continue to believe it has recovered a future National Pillar. His latest grounded state is therefore neither dead nor active: he is a depowered direct member hidden by the civilization that once promoted him. (Chapters 1390–1397)
Appearance and personality
Gaud is later shown wearing a high-level Crimson Dynasty officer's uniform. The corpus gives no stable, detailed description of his face, hair, build, or species, so his physical appearance beyond that official presentation remains insufficiently specified.
He presents himself as calm, polite, capable, and patient. Beneath that manner is an old determination to reach a higher level of individual power. Rebirth alters EsGod's thoughts and personality enough that Gaud regards himself as a new life, yet he retains the earlier memories, ambitions, secrecy, and readiness to use any faction that can advance his goal. Even when captured, he maintains his denial because preserving his legal identity is his only remaining defense.
Abilities and class
Gaud advances from Calamity Grade to Beyond Grade A as an Esper. His strength rests on the Super High Risk ability Energy Control, a physique with exceptional energy affinity, and accumulated knowledge carried through Rebirth. His latest state is sharply diminished because Energy Control has been extracted from him.
Energy Control
Energy Control allows Gaud to sense, absorb, convert, manipulate, and analyze many forms of energy. It provides an effectively inexhaustible supply by drawing in surrounding energy, supports shields and ranged attacks, and can study an unfamiliar energy's principles until control becomes possible. The ability's breadth makes it valuable for both combat and research, especially the proposed analysis of Evolution Energy. Progress still requires time: Gaud reaches only partial analysis before Han Xiao stops him, and potential does not compensate for the raw grade difference in their fight. (Chapters 994–1037, 1179, and 1220–1228)
Perfect Energy Affinity Physique
Gaud's physique gives heightened energy senses, resistance, absorption efficiency, attack power, and maximum reserves. It automatically attracts stray energy and helps explain his unusually rapid advancement. The trait allows him to remain conscious through punishment that would disable many Supers, but it does not provide equally extraordinary health regeneration. Against Han Xiao, wounds accumulate faster than Gaud can recover despite his nearly endless energy. (Chapters 1218–1228)
Esper Ability—Rebirth and identity continuity
Rebirth is a one-use ability related to high-dimensional information rather than a simple possession. EsGod tears away part of his soul before the amber seal closes and fuses with the prepared Gaud container. The result carries his memories but forms a complete new soul with altered personality; the text explicitly states that Gaud is Gaud and no longer simply EsGod. The process cannot be repeated by Gaud, and it does not preserve EsGod's broad collection of absorbed powers beyond the implanted Energy Control chain. (Chapters 1220–1227)
Loss of power
Han Xiao eventually uses Evans to extract Energy Control from Gaud. The removal leaves Gaud alive but strips away the Super High Risk ability, the analysis progress attached to it, and the future around which the dynasty built its cultivation plan. The corpus does not establish that the dynasty successfully restores the power. Gaud's latest confirmed capability is therefore uncertain below his former Beyond Grade A combat state, and his active access to Energy Control has ended. (Chapters 1390–1397)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rebirth-prepared Calamity Grade identity | 969–1037 | Appears as a young dynasty Esper carrying EsGod's memories, a new complete soul, the implanted Energy Control chain, and exceptional energy affinity. Rebirth was one-use and did not preserve EsGod's full absorbed arsenal. |
| Beyond Grade A Esper | 1179, 1218–1219 | Breaks through in under five years and becomes a direct dynasty member. His new grade is still far below Han Xiao's later strength. |
| Captured and amber-sealed | 1226–1229 | Han Xiao defeats him, encloses him in a mechanical prison, and seals him alive. The confinement removes him from active combat without changing the fact that his body had reached Beyond Grade A. |
| Energy Control extracted / depowered | 1390–1397 | Evans takes the Super High Risk ability and its attached analysis progress before Gaud returns to dynasty custody. His latest active combat capability is uncertain below his former Beyond Grade A state. |
Relationships
- Han Xiao: Gaud outwardly admires Black Star while privately viewing him as an obstacle and source of coveted resources. Han Xiao discovers the rebirth secret, captures him before his plan matures, and later returns him to the dynasty only after removing Energy Control.
- EsGod: EsGod created the Gaud container and used Rebirth to escape the sealing of his original body. Their identity is continuous through memory but not simple equivalence: the process forms a new soul and changes personality, making Gaud a genuine reborn self.
- Evans: Evans extracts Energy Control from Gaud and becomes its new possessor. The transfer destroys the exceptional future the dynasty planned for Gaud while preserving the ability for another Esper.
- Urranrell: Urranrell's dynasty invests heavily in Gaud as a direct member with National Pillar potential. His disappearance and eventual return force the civilization to conceal a loss it cannot publicly explain.
- Clotti: Clotti represents the established peak of the dynasty's direct Beyond Grade As, while Gaud is cultivated as a possible future peer or superior. Later comparisons emphasize Energy Control's greater theoretical ceiling at equal grade.
- Aurora: Gaud has little direct relationship with Aurora, but Energy Analysis taken from him helps Han Xiao study her life energy and incorporate its principles into later technology.
Items
No named personal weapon, armor, or other qualifying possession is assigned to Gaud in the generated item inventory. His Energy Control and Rebirth are Esper abilities, while the mechanical prison and Spacetime Amber seal belong to his captor rather than to him.
