Austin

Austin, widely known as the Magus, is a long-lived Beyond Grade A Mage and the head of the Hidden Red Robe Abbey. He combines an intense scholarly interest in magic with a generally sociable, cautious temperament, and his friendship with Han Xiao develops through exchanged favors, magical assistance, and shared battles.

Biography

Mutation Disaster and the Secret War

Austin meets Han Xiao at Heber's gathering, where he notices the minute Void Energy ripple created by Han Xiao's Observer's Mark but chooses not to expose it. Interested in the younger Super's potential, he gives him the core essence of a defeated Void Lord as both assistance and a possible prepayment for future help. He later calls on that relationship when his former disciple and Forbidden Sorcerer commander Lagi leaves the Abbey; rather than pursue a punitive feud, Austin accepts Han Xiao's intervention and warns Lagi about the dangers of following a Beyond Grade A seed. (Chapters 609–616, 654, 664–679, and 715)

The Evolution Cube and Crimson Dynasty

Austin initially remains neutral when Han Xiao's possession of the Evolution Cube draws Psyker and Heber into open confrontation. That caution changes during the battle of Planet Lighthouse, where he arrives with Milizaus and Beyoni to reinforce the dynasty's side. He commits the Palace of Hidden Spells to shield Han Xiao while the latter prepares a countermeasure, enduring concentrated attacks that destroy barriers and palace functions. Han Xiao later gives him a Spacetime Amber bead to repay the old debt, making their alliance an exchange of meaningful risks rather than casual acquaintance. (Chapters 727–731, 771–789, 849–860, and 884)

The Flickering World

Austin spends much of the Flickering World era observing the new balance of power from the Palace of Hidden Spells. He watches major duels with a Mage's analytical curiosity and is startled by Hila's Death's Erosion, correctly judging that repeated purification cannot remove energy that continuously reattaches to its target. Rather than treating the newly advanced Hila as an intruder, he approaches her as an equal and opens a direct acquaintance, reflecting his preference for expanding magical and personal connections over seeking territorial dominance. (Chapters 951, 993–1001, and 1041)

Intelligent Plague and the Association

Austin's contribution in this period is primarily connective and intellectual. His long friendship with Ames gives her enough familiarity with magic to recognize unusual spell behavior, while the Void material he earlier gave Han Xiao continues to influence the latter's racial development and exploration of secondary dimensions. Austin also participates in the wider Beyond Grade A community that is taking shape around Black Star. The supplied scenes do not place him at the center of the Intelligent Plague response, so his role is best understood as that of an established peer whose knowledge and prior aid remain consequential. (Chapters 1048 and 1072)

Sanctum Revival and the Super Crisis

The revival of historical Supers immediately attracts Austin as a scholar. When the resurrected Elf King Dylan appears, Austin expresses interest in the lost elven spell system and asks for an opportunity to exchange knowledge. Dylan dismisses him as potentially untalented, freezing Austin's friendly overture and silencing the other Mages who had hoped to ask the same questions. The encounter shows both Austin's lack of embarrassment about learning from another tradition and a limit to his easy sociability: he does not press a hostile expert merely to satisfy his curiosity. (Chapter 1260)

The World Tree War

Austin joins the secondary-dimension front during the World Tree War and is surrounded with other Beyond Grade As while half of his magic treasures are destroyed. He recognizes that their position will produce losses without reinforcements, but keeps resisting until hidden Holy Accord Revivors arrive and relieve the pressure. Once he realizes the newcomers are historical Primordial Ones, he postpones his questions and withdraws instead of letting curiosity distract from the battle. The intervention stabilizes the front and leaves Austin alive after a direct demonstration that even his deep arsenal is finite under coordinated assault. (Chapter 1413)

Appearance and personality

Austin appears as a child despite belonging to a long-lived race. His voice is correspondingly tender and youthful, and his small, adorable face contrasts with the authority of an ancient Beyond Grade A. He is commonly seen floating or sitting cross-legged while teaching, and the corpus emphasizes his childlike form more than specific clothing or facial details.

He is casual, friendly, curious, and socially confident. Austin jokes with Ames and Heber, enjoys meeting newly advanced peers, gives valuable materials without theatrical superiority, and readily discusses magical theory. His warmth does not make him reckless: he avoids unnecessary factional commitments, knows when a spell or enemy demands caution, and can stop asking questions when a battlefield requires immediate action.

Abilities and class

Austin is a Beyond Grade A Mage born with exceptional Magic Affinity. His titles identify him with forbidden-spell creation, rule manipulation, and a body partly transformed toward a spell-like state, but the corpus demonstrates his perception, dimensional travel, spellcraft, teaching, and defensive use of the Palace of Hidden Spells more clearly than it explains every title's mechanics.

Magic affinity and perception

Austin is exceptionally sensitive to energy. He detects the tiny Void Energy fluctuation of Han Xiao's Observer's Mark when other Beyond Grade As do not, recognizes the effect of Void genes on Han Xiao, and evaluates unfamiliar magic by branch, cost, and likely purpose. This perception supports analysis rather than omniscience: he can identify a category or energy signature without automatically knowing the user's entire plan. (Chapters 609–615 and 1048)

Dimensional travel and forbidden spellcraft

Austin can send his spiritual body through secondary dimensions, defeat powerful void beings, preserve their core essence, and open portals across interstellar distances. He teaches Forbidden Sorcerers at the Hidden Red Robe Abbey and repairs the Palace of Hidden Spells' arrays under fire. His many purifying spells can remove ordinary negative states, but he judges Hila's continuously attached death energy too persistent to cleanse safely once it lands. (Chapters 615, 654, 759, 849–860, and 1001)

Palace of Hidden Spells

The Palace of Hidden Spells is Austin's mobile base, teaching hall, and principal defensive platform. It is rated as a gold-grade Universal Treasure, carries numerous magic treasures and arrays, and can resist concentrated attacks by several Beyond Grade As long enough to protect allies. Its defenses are not inexhaustible: sustained focus fire breaks shields, damages functions, and can destroy part of Austin's stored arsenal, forcing him to spend effort repairing arrays or withdraw when overwhelmed. (Chapters 730–731, 789, 849–860, and 1413)

Relationships

  • Han Xiao: Austin recognizes Han Xiao's potential early and gives him Void Lord essence. Han Xiao later repays that favor with aid concerning Lagi, a Spacetime Amber bead, and partnership at Planet Lighthouse, producing a durable relationship based on reciprocal assistance.
  • Ames: Austin has known Ames for a long time and is comfortable teasing her about Heber, discussing magic, and appearing around Floating Dragon's affairs. Their friendship survives their different approaches to organization and combat.
  • Heber: Austin is friendly enough with Heber to attend his gathering and joke about his failed pursuit of Ames, but he does not follow Heber into every political alignment.
  • Lagi: Lagi is Austin's fourth disciple and former Forbidden Sorcerer commander. Austin allows him to leave with Han Xiao after warning him of the risks, treating departure as a personal choice rather than an unforgivable betrayal.
  • Hila: Austin studies Hila's death energy from a safe distance and greets her as a peer after her advancement. Her ability also gives him a rare case in which avoidance is more reliable than magical purification.
  • Milizaus: Austin and Milizaus arrive together as reinforcements at Planet Lighthouse and share the task of holding the Arcane Church back while Han Xiao prepares his counterattack.
