Lagi
Lagi is a powerful Spacehuman Mage whose extraordinary pessimism contrasts with his formidable command of forbidden and spacetime magic. Once the fourth disciple of Magus Austin and commander of the Hidden Red Robe Abbey's Forbidden Sorcerers, he joins Han Xiao after nearly ten years of imprisonment. He becomes the Black Star Army's first vice commander and eventually advances to Beyond Grade A.
Biography
Mutation Disaster and the Secret War
Lagi first appears as a lone Calamity Grade prisoner who has spent almost ten years in Albert's hidden base. Han's rescue earns his immediate loyalty, though Lagi explains the choice with characteristic fatalism and also values the funding an organization can provide for magical research. Initially the Army's only other Grade A combatant, he rescues a Sky Ring team with a high-level spacetime spell and greatly improves the Army's enchantments. His former Hidden Red Robe Abbey comrades briefly take him back to meet Austin, but Lagi returns as promised. Han then appoints Lagi Schwer as the Army's first vice captain and publicly identifies him as Austin's former fourth disciple and Forbidden Sorcerer commander. Lagi leads major forces during the Secret War, while his vast mana and frequent forbidden spells place him among Section Zero's strongest Calamity Grades despite his dispiriting speeches and dislike of work. (Chapters 642–651, 664–665, 688, 715–716, and 722–725)
The Evolution Cube and Crimson Dynasty
As a senior Army officer, Lagi remains the Calamity Grade capable of putting meaningful pressure on Hadavy before other officers catch up. He participates in the Army's operations and high-level gatherings but preserves his ambitionless habits, sometimes napping until Hadavy physically drags him along. His position comes from both combat power and his previous command experience: he can lead large Army formations and serves as the leading Mage among its officers. The later appointment of Hila as vice army commander above every other officer, explicitly including Lagi, changes the hierarchy without saying that Lagi is dismissed. The evidence therefore supports his continued senior rank but not equality with Hila or sole control over the Army's administration. (Chapters 725, 728, 768, 831–832, 866, and 886)
The Flickering World
Lagi attends the Black Star Cup beside other senior officers, mentors the talented young Mage Tomar, and represents the Army through a remote projection at an Aquamarine press conference. Hila's later promotion places her immediately below Han and above Lagi, confirming that Lagi remains part of the upper command while no longer occupying the highest subordinate position. During the long prewar training period, the revelation of Sanctum Revival finally motivates even Lagi to increase his workload, and he advances to Beyond Grade A before Chapter 1403. His gloomy predictions of dying in battle do not become his fate: he survives the World Tree War, receives honors with the other contributors, and remains alive afterward. The latest direct view in Chapter 1459 finds him characteristically slacking in the Black Star Army's new Supers Holy Land headquarters. This supersedes any inference of death from his pessimistic wartime remarks and does not depend on revival or legacy testimony. (Chapters 916, 957, 1003, 1365, 1374, 1378, 1380, 1403–1404, 1408, 1420, 1447, and 1459)
Appearance and personality
Lagi is a male Spacehuman initially seen with a long, miserable face and a ragged, depressed appearance after years of captivity. He is unfailingly pessimistic, speaks politely while predicting catastrophe, dislikes responsibility, naps or plays cards when possible, and describes magical research as a way to pass time before death. Yet he keeps important promises, can lead troops when required, and remains loyal to the Army that rescued him. (Chapters 642–649, 688, 715, 722–725, 886, and 1459)
Abilities and class
Lagi begins as a Grade A and later Grade A+ Mage before advancing to Beyond Grade A. He has vast mana, deep knowledge of forbidden magic, and rare skill with spacetime spells. Spacetime Secret Spell—the Seventh Dimension freezes a battlefield region while allowing him to move and cast freely, enabling him to rescue surrounded mercenaries with a single decisive intervention. He also enchants the Army's equipment, mentors other Mages, and can cast forbidden spells repeatedly in large battles. (Chapters 644, 649, 651, 688, 725, 768, 916, and 1403)
Relationships
- Han Xiao: Han rescues and recruits Lagi, funds his research, relies on his combat and command abilities, and appoints him the Army's first vice captain. Lagi complains constantly but returns from Austin as promised and remains with the Army for decades. (Chapters 643–649, 688, 715–725, and 1459)
- Hila: Hila's promotion to vice army commander gives her authority below Han but above Lagi. This is a hierarchy change, not evidence that Lagi leaves the upper command. (Chapter 1003)
- Herlous: Lagi and Herlous jointly lead the Black Star Army's larger force against Bloodshed Land strongholds. Both later remain among the Army's long-serving upper echelon. (Chapters 723–725 and 1459)
- Hadavy: Lagi is initially one of the few Army officers capable of pressuring Hadavy. They later share a lazy card-playing circle, although Hadavy sometimes drags Lagi to required meetings. (Chapters 768, 886, and 1378)
- Feidin: Lagi plays cards with Feidin and later proves unusually resistant to Feidin's morale-enhancing psychic effect because his pessimistic outlook quickly reasserts itself. (Chapters 722, 1380, and 1391)
- Austin: Lagi is Austin's former fourth disciple and the former commander of the Hidden Red Robe Abbey's Forbidden Sorcerers. Although Austin expelled him, Lagi still calls him a good man and returns from their later meeting to rejoin the Black Star Army. (Chapters 664–665, 688, and 715)
Items
Lagi uses an old, simple staff to cast Spacetime Secret Spell—the Seventh Dimension, but the staff is not named in the supplied inventory. He has no linked named personal item. (Chapter 651)
