Charlotte Wick
Charlotte Wick is a young bear-woman of the Wick family who rejects the brutal hierarchy embodied by her grandfather, Commandant Wick, and chooses Helen as her model instead. Beginning as an elite recruit with a life-giving Primal Force, she survives Helen's death, rebuilds her ruined image as the Primal Ground, condenses a Nether Core, and becomes Randidly's Knight of the Tide without surrendering her responsibility to the Vulpis Squad. (Chapters 1509–1610, 1759–1847, 2078–2208, and 2262–2313)
Biography
An elite recruit under the Wick name
Charlotte enters the Fifth Cohort training program already carrying the burden of her family. Her grandfather orders her to befriend Head Drill Sergeant Randidly Ghosthound and demonstrate what loyalty to the Wicks can offer him. She obeys the Patriarch's ritual demands but does not mistake his attention for protection; Charlotte knows he values only relatives capable of defending themselves. The recruit camp consequently offers her a rare opportunity to build strength and purpose outside his direct control. (Chapters 1509 and 1600)
That freedom draws her toward Helen. Charlotte privately sketches the overseer, studies her bearing, and becomes captivated by a woman whose authority comes from effort and martial excellence rather than inherited status. Her own Primal Force grows into an enormous elk-like creature with pale antlers, and its rejuvenating aura helps sustain the Elite Squad through prolonged fighting. The image's life and stamina effects make Charlotte a formation anchor, while Helen's training gives her a standard of discipline she chooses for herself. (Chapters 1521, 1536, and 1601–1603)
Helen's death and a chosen lineage
During the final challenge, a grey-haired attacker suppresses Charlotte's exhausted image, shatters her shoulder, and continues trying to kill her after she falls. The assault pulls Randidly and Helen into the escalating violence that culminates in Helen's torture and death at Commandant Wick's hands. Charlotte survives because others intervene, but her family name becomes inseparable from the destruction of the mentor she admired. At Helen's funeral, she stands at the front of the recruits and finally collapses into open sobs as Randidly describes Helen as his Knight. (Chapters 1603–1610)
Charlotte refuses to treat grief as permission to retreat into Wick fatalism. She remains with the Vulpis Squad when its members choose to repay Randidly and continue Helen-style training inside the Alpha Cosmos. Rather than speak about the loss, however, she tries to draw Helen into her whole soul: bloody wings and remnants of Helen's image force their way through the Primal Force. The mixture is unstable and painful, but Charlotte insists it is the Path she wants, transforming private mourning into a self-selected martial lineage. (Chapters 1759, 1783, and 1784)
Tournament victory and the second Knight
On the training island, Charlotte drives the hybrid image through the All Alpha Cosmos Tournament. Its antlers, leech-like tendrils, natural recovery, and weight of death let her pressure opponents at close range and overpower hostile projections. In the final against Drake, she tears apart her stitched Primal Force and releases a formless crimson radiance strong enough to melt his empowered sword and nearly consume him. Randidly suppresses the uncontrolled overflow, but Charlotte wins the tournament and receives dense Nether Weight at the cost of a collapsed Aether foundation. (Chapters 1835 and 1842–1847)
Still barely able to walk, Charlotte seeks out Randidly and asks to become his next Knight. She argues that he needs a trusted subordinate to clear lesser threats and that Helen's role should become a continuing pattern rather than a singular tragedy. Randidly warns that she may remain a replacement, tool, and eventual casualty, but Charlotte accepts the danger and offers service on her own terms. He recognizes her genuine desire and nascent Nether Core, accepts her, and immediately makes recovery and rebuilding her first assignments. (Chapter 1847)
The Hallowed Ground in the reflected Aetherlands
Charlotte's initial reconstruction is bleak. Helen's blood and the bones of the dead Primal Force lie together without a stable shape, while DiOrtho Vant's harsh training forces her to act through the failure. Continued work awakens a Hallowed Ground beneath the metaphorical mud: deceased life supplies a pervasive, defensive foundation rather than an imitation of Helen. Renamed the Primal Ground, it can compact soil into barriers, replace lost flesh with lifemud, and spread an environment that turns old death into renewed protection. (Chapter 2078)
Randidly summons her into the reflected Aetherlands and sends her to protect the young Devick. Charlotte intercepts Elhume's overwhelming punch, loses much of one side of her body, and reconstructs herself with condensed mud well enough to conceal the injury and bluff stronger observers. Afterward, she stays among Homewell's root slums, helps their people, relays political threats, and argues for Randidly's warning even when his violence alarms her. Her Knight service therefore includes defense and persuasion, not merely obedience in battle. (Chapters 2078–2092 and 2200–2208)
Nether Core and investiture as Knight of the Tide
Back in the Nexus conflict, Charlotte helps move Homewell's displaced people into the Alpha Cosmos and receives an emotional armament from Randidly, shaped around primal impulse and unexplored wilderness. She leads the Vulpis Squad through porcelain defenses and uses the Primal Ground both offensively and protectively, wrapping Raymund in cooling soil so anger cannot dictate his tactics. During the later assault, she embodies the squad's cutting edge; the conviction that she deserves her title finally takes root and condenses her rotating Nether Core. (Chapters 2214, 2228–2234, and 2262)
The fighting kills Heiffal and many of Charlotte's comrades, yet she remains ready when Randidly calls her into the final confrontation. Asked to hold back Pine's descending death while he fights, she accepts because others cannot. Randidly then corrects the structure of her office: Charlotte will not merely be his personal weapon but the leading figure supported by the whole Alpha Cosmos. He gives her Helen's legacy through two relics and names her Knight of the Tide, converting her chosen inheritance into a responsibility with its own authority. (Chapters 2275 and 2313)
Appearance and personality
Charlotte is a young bear-woman with brown fur, paws, and claws. Early scenes emphasize sweat gathering beneath the fur of her neck, the careful precision of her claws while drawing, and a practical capacity for construction. In combat, her identity is dominated by the huge pale-antlered beast of her Primal Force, later replaced by the mud, roots, bones, and living pressure of the Primal Ground. Her investiture adds a heavy crimson gauntlet and an ancient wooden horn veined with gold. (Chapters 1509, 1521, 1602, 2078, and 2313)
She is intense, hardworking, private, and capable of turning obsession into disciplined effort. Charlotte despises recruits who mimic their oppressors, yet her own grief initially makes her secretive and self-destructive. She eventually distinguishes perseverance from inherited cruelty: she can question Randidly's methods, soothe Raymund's rage, protect refugees, and still throw herself toward an impossible duty. Loyalty is a conscious commitment for her, rooted in Helen's example and the Vulpis Squad's sacrifices rather than the authority of the Wick name. (Chapters 1521, 1759, 1783, 2200–2208, and 2313)
Abilities and progression
Charlotte's first mature image is Primal Force, an enormous elk-like beast with massive pale antlers. Its aura carries vigorous natural energy, restores Stamina, and can counter cold or exhaustion across a squad. She can manifest its antlers as direct weapons, expand its body into large projections, or focus its vitality through her own physical blows. The restoration only imitates Yggdrasil rather than reproducing its full power, and repeated pulses drain her concentration; a stronger suppressive image can collapse it when she is exhausted. (Chapters 1601–1603 and 1692)
After Helen's death, Charlotte grafts blood, bone wings, and death onto that living foundation. The unstable hybrid produces tentacles, leeches, strong recovery, and an environmental weight capable of extinguishing attacks. Its ultimate collapse releases an immensely destructive crimson light with little shape or control. The radiance can melt a Chimeric Fate weapon and tear through a reinforced fighter, but it also destroys Charlotte's Aether foundation and threatens spectators beyond her target. Randidly must seize and disperse it, leaving the technique unusable as a reliable everyday attack. (Chapters 1783–1784 and 1842–1847)
Her rebuilt Primal Ground converts that failure into a persistent terrain image. Mud and earth compact into layered barriers, flow around allies to drain disruptive emotion, form hammers or armor, and replace damaged flesh. Rather than producing a brief life aura, the Ground draws momentum from the dead things beneath it and encourages fresh growth through every contact with soil. It is highly defensive and pervasive, but sufficiently superior force can annihilate its barriers, and Lifeseal suppression restricts the Nether that helps animate Charlotte's newer techniques. (Chapters 2078, 2092, 2200, and 2233–2234)
Charlotte's Nether develops through shared Hierarchy burdens, bold choices, tournament significance, and service with the Vulpis Squad. Before the tournament's aftermath she has only a nascent core and gathered Weight; during the porcelain assault, her conviction produces a fully rotating Nether Core. The breakthrough amplifies the natural force moving through her limbs and helps her use the squad's surrounding images as support. It does not make her invulnerable: an ambusher still nearly kills her immediately afterward, and stronger companions must cover threats outside her awareness. (Chapters 1783, 1847, and 2262)
As Knight of the Tide, Charlotte gains Helen's Sea, Cradle of Unlikely Lives through the Gauntlet of the Tide. The relic holds the Domain at Level 1500, but her own access begins at Level 200, explicitly limiting how much of that inherited strength she can wield. The Horn of the First Herald adds Crest of the Cosmos's Wave, which channels portions of supporters' Willpower and desire into her strikes, and Depth of the Universe's Undertow, which senses the Alpha Cosmos's collective needs and improves her speed and reactions when intervention matters most. Greater participation brings greater strain until the Skills develop. (Chapter 2313)
Relationships
- Helen: Charlotte's admired instructor and chosen model. Helen's murder transforms Charlotte's Primal Force, her understanding of loyalty, and ultimately the office she accepts as Knight of the Tide.
- Randidly Ghosthound: Her drill instructor, liege, and demanding mentor. Charlotte chooses to serve him, but her final investiture makes her a leader supported by the Alpha Cosmos rather than merely his expendable subordinate.
- Commandant Wick: Her grandfather and family Patriarch, not her father. His coercive expectations and murder of Helen make the Wick inheritance a trauma Charlotte consciously rejects.
- Raymund Ballast: Her squad leader and comrade. He supports her through grief, while she later cools his anger and helps stabilize the Vulpis Squad's battlefield decisions.
- Alana Donal: A training partner and battlefield ally whose pressure helps Charlotte rebuild after the tournament and whose Parable supports her during the Nether Core breakthrough.
Items
- Gauntlet of the Tide: A Unique relic given at Charlotte's investiture. It carries the remnant wish of Helen and grants a bounded connection to Helen's Sea rather than making Charlotte identical to the first Knight. (Chapter 2313)
- Horn of the First Herald: A Unique relic forged to channel the Alpha Cosmos's collective desires and guide Charlotte toward moments when the Knight's intervention matters most. (Chapter 2313)
