Sharnoth

Sharnoth Nocthys is the fallen princess of Nocthys, former queen of Khaemorr, the Heir of Chaos, and one of Nux's wives. Enslaved after the murder of her father and destruction of her world, she accepts Zylarith's Chaos Crystal and spends roughly one hundred thousand years building the power to punish Vexarion and Aurendor. Her apparent liberation conceals a second chain: completing the Body of Chaos would let Zylarith control her forever. Nux helps her capture Vexarion, severs her from the Main Universe, and gives her a refuge where that control can be countered, but their transition from bargain to marriage begins through a possessive and coercive reinterpretation of the promise she made for revenge.

Biography

The princess left in chains

Sharnoth is born princess of Nocthys, a High-Level World aligned with Darkness and locked in an old rivalry with Aurendor. Her father, Nocthys's Eternal Progenitor, is isolated and killed while returning from a journey. With its strongest defender gone, the royal family surrenders; Aurendor takes Sharnoth as a slave and reduces Nocthys to territory used for experiments. Her cultivation is ruined, while her mother Isaveth is driven to ask Sharnoth to kill her rather than continue their captivity. The memory turns Vexarion and his allies from political enemies into the single purpose around which Sharnoth organizes the rest of her life. (Chapter 1963; Chapters 2078 and 2186–2187)

Sharnoth somehow escapes despite being powerless and expected to die within decades. The later revelation supplies the missing actor: Zylarith gives her a Chaos Crystal, changes her body's foundation from Darkness to Chaos, and trains her. She returns far stronger than her father, recruits survivors and fallen races, establishes Khaemorr, and builds alliances for war against Aurendor. Her ascent earns the title “Princess Who Rose from the Chains,” but she accepts Zylarith's help knowing he has motives of his own because vengeance matters more to her than safety or autonomy. Chaos changes more than her power. In battle its wild energy pushes her toward an ecstatic, self-destructive personality that enjoys pain, impossible odds, and opponents who can threaten her. Zylarith orders her to suppress that nature so she can survive long enough to lead and take revenge. Sharnoth therefore develops a controlled queenly self and a battle self that later behave as recognizable alternate personalities. The calm self handles government and negotiation; the chaotic self emerges for violence and retains the most vivid memories of her parents' fall. By the late corpus Sharnoth can manage the transition, while her son does not yet have the same control. (Chapters 2108, 2146, 2196–2197, and 2319)

Khaemorr under siege and Nux's promise

Nux first learns Sharnoth's history while investigating Khaemorr because Zylarith is using it as a base. The Leander campaign then tears through her faction: worlds fall, subordinates desert, and Sharnoth is forced to expose Chaos, making herself a target for every power seeking favor from the Supreme Worlds. She initially experiences Nux as the mysterious enemy collapsing the state she spent a hundred thousand years building. Yet Nux also understands that revenge, not Khaemorr's survival, is the one goal she will not trade away. (Chapters 1963 and 2030–2078)

He offers a way to draw Vexarion out of Aurendor's protection and promises Sharnoth the chance to settle the old debt herself. Sharnoth agrees to give herself to Nux if he secures that revenge. Her offer is initially transactional and self-sacrificial: later chapters show that she imagines becoming a servant or expendable weapon, not a romantic wife. Nux manipulates Vexarion into accepting a duel, while Sharnoth trusts him enough to disclose plans and follow instructions even as the Supreme Worlds begin hunting them both. (Chapters 2075–2078 and 2196–2198)

When the plan starts to fail, Sharnoth is prepared to surrender her own chance rather than demand that Nux endanger his wives. She has spent her life willing to die for Vexarion's suffering, but no longer regards herself as the only person who bears the cost. Nux refuses to abandon the promise. Sharnoth in turn participates in the Chain Breaker operation, deploys her Domain to trap a Supreme party, and tells Nux to escape when two Eternals threaten to capture them. The alliance becomes loyalty before the promised payment is ever collected. (Chapters 2078–2095)

Chaos unleashed and the hidden successor trap

When Nux retreats into his universe with one enemy, Sharnoth remains outside to hold Zarveth's attention. She insults the Eternal Supreme Born and presents herself as someone who knows how to reach Nux, deliberately feeding him false hope so he will focus on capturing her rather than reporting the encounter. Her plan buys time, but the battle also lets her stop suppressing Chaos. Pain and danger accelerate her comprehension, and she begins forming the complete Body of Chaos. (Chapters 2095–2107)

Zarveth counters with six Infinity Relics. One maps possible paths, another predicts a successful future, and others stabilize time and space. The Blade of Rewriting severs Sharnoth's connection to Chaos, while the Cube of Silence immobilizes her so completely that she cannot move, heal, speak, or complete a Dark Spell meant to end her own life. Nux returns, destroys the restraints, and forces her to continue the battle with him inside his universe. Because his will governs that universe's Chaos, her attacks cannot injure him, but his pressure gives her the opponent needed to finish transforming. Her skin falls away and the body beneath becomes pure purple-black Chaos. (Chapters 2107–2114)

Completion exposes Zylarith's true design. The Chaos Crystal did not merely teach an energy; it rebuilt Sharnoth around the physique that once made Zylarith the strongest Infinity. The Body of Chaos connects its bearer to Chaos throughout the Universe and can provide effectively endless external reserves. Because the body is itself energy, however, the person with the deepest comprehension of that energy can control it. Zylarith intended to take Sharnoth's body once it was complete, leaving her conscious but unable to resist even if she later became an Infinity. His generosity was investment in a permanent puppet, not proof that he valued her freedom. (Chapters 2114–2115)

Nux devours Sharnoth before Zylarith can exercise that control, severs her link to the Main Universe, and reforms her body without the old facial crack. Severance does not erase the danger because the Chaos in Nux's universe has the same origin. It does create a counter: if Zylarith takes control, conscious Sharnoth can call Nux, who can pull her home and restore her control because his will is supreme there. Nux himself can also control her body inside his universe, a fact the family openly recognizes. Sharnoth is therefore protected from permanent capture, not cured of the underlying vulnerability. (Chapters 2114–2116)

Vexarion's false escapes

Nux and Sharnoth delay the revenge strike until they can avoid the Infinities' trap. When the moment comes, Sharnoth enters Vexarion's throne room after a Light Born has reduced him to bait. She recreates the isolation of her father's death with captured Eternals standing in for Vexarion's old allies and makes him remember what was done to Nocthys. Nux removes the Light protector, and Sharnoth's chaotic self subjects Vexarion to prolonged pain until he breaks and begs for death. The victory is personal and deliberately cruel; she wants him to experience terror, hope, and helplessness rather than granting a quick execution. (Chapters 2186–2194)

Nux then gives Vexarion an apparent escape. Because Vexarion has already been connected to Nux's universe, no distance can free him; Nux and Sharnoth plan to let hope grow for days before appearing again. Sharnoth regards the repeated destruction of that hope as an extension of revenge, not mercy. By Chapter 2203 Vexarion remains their captive and resource rather than being confirmed dead. The corpus therefore establishes his defeat and continuing torment, but not a final killing within the supplied scope. (Chapters 2194–2203)

The fulfillment of Nux's promise activates Sharnoth's side of their bargain. She says she now belongs to him and means gratitude, obedience, and willingness to serve. Nux insists on sole possession, orders her to remain physically close, and defines intimacy she does not initially understand; when her instincts tell her to withdraw, the promise is used to prevent it. He later deliberately uses teasing and his Incubus nature to turn that arrangement into sexual and emotional attachment. Sharnoth grows to want his presence and is subsequently treated as wife rather than slave, but the early transition is coercive and should not be reinterpreted as freely negotiated courtship simply because the later bond endures. Wife, mother, and survivor of the Infinity conflict

Sharnoth slowly finds a place among women whose informality initially leaves her speechless. They learn about Zylarith's route to controlling her, tease her, include her in strategy, and treat her as one of twenty wives by the time the family discusses Allura's pregnancy. Her controlled self becomes capable of advising Nux not to let fear of the unknown corner him, while her chaotic self remains a weapon eager for worthy battle. This duality is managed rather than eliminated. (Chapters 2140, 2197, and 2227–2256)

She and Nux later have a son, Kaelith. He inherits a split personality but cannot yet manage it as Sharnoth does, making the other children uneasy and leaving him socially isolated. Sharnoth wants him to have friends and relies on the wider Leander family to give the problem time rather than forcing immediate closeness. Her concern for his place in the family marks a new responsibility beyond revenge, Khaemorr, or repayment to Nux. (Chapter 2319)

During the final confrontation with the Infinities, Sharnoth cannot break through Nux's sealed universe walls to help him and must watch with the others. Her presence and Law make Chaos part of the inner universe, but the escape Nux charges is his own use of that energy, not a separately demonstrated intervention by Sharnoth. She survives his apparent erasure and return. At the end of the corpus she travels to Yrniel out of curiosity, no longer the isolated queen or disposable successor she had expected to become. Appearance and personality

Sharnoth's ordinary form is an imposing woman surrounded by darkness, with long wild grey hair that flows like smoke, massive curved horns, grey-toned skin, and sharp crimson eyes. Before Nux reforms her, uncontrolled energy leaves a crack across her face; the crack disappears after she is devoured and reconstituted. Her royal bearing and cold expression support the disciplined queenly identity she built to lead Khaemorr. (Chapters 2030 and 2116)

In the completed Body of Chaos, her skin falls away and her form becomes living purple-black energy, with crimson eyes and a hollow grin remaining visible. She can later rematerialize her physical skin, so this is an activated state rather than a permanent loss of humanoid appearance. The transformation is disturbing even to Eternals because attacks may strip or break the temporary surface while revealing no ordinary flesh beneath it. (Chapters 2107–2114 and 2196)

Her controlled personality is solemn, diplomatic, responsible toward subordinates, and capable of delaying revenge when other lives would bear the risk. Her Chaos personality is manic, sadistic, exhilarated by pain, and drawn to opponents who may defeat her. Neither is a simple falsehood: the calm self carried a kingdom for a hundred thousand years, while the battle self preserves memories and drives comprehension. Sharnoth's later stability comes from managing both rather than declaring one unreal. (Chapters 2030–2078, 2108, 2146, and 2196–2197)

Abilities and cultivation

Chaos Crystal and Body of Chaos

Zylarith's Chaos Crystal changes the foundation of Sharnoth's body, replaces her original affinity with Chaos, and raises her potential beyond the limit inherited from her Eternal father. The crystal contains the foundation of Zylarith's unique physique. Its gradual development explains both her rise from ruined cultivation to Eternal in roughly one hundred thousand years and the unstable energy that cracks her physical shell. The upgrade is permanent and externally acquired, not an innate Nocthys bloodline. (Chapters 1963, 2108, and 2114)

The completed Body of Chaos is a physical manifestation of pure Chaos. Sharnoth releases it by shedding or disintegrating her surface body, after which her form can diffuse into purple-black energy, evade an ordinary physical hold, and reform later. It connects her to Chaos throughout the Universe, granting a source described as effectively endless while that connection remains available. The body reaches completion only when prolonged combat and danger deepen her comprehension; time alone is insufficient. (Chapters 2107–2114 and 2196)

The same mechanism is its greatest weakness. Chaos affects Sharnoth's personality, making danger and pain exhilarating and increasing the risk of self-destructive escalation. More decisively, Zylarith's superior comprehension lets him take complete control of the energy-body while leaving her conscious. Nux's anchor is a countermeasure rather than immunity: he can recall her into his universe and restore control, while also possessing the ability to control her there himself. The corpus does not demonstrate Sharnoth permanently removing this vulnerability. (Chapters 2108 and 2114–2115)

Chaos energy and combat applications

Sharnoth uses Chaos as purple-black mist, tendrils, beams, storms, blades, and direct internal disruption. Energy introduced into an opponent interferes with the target's control of their own power and can tear through the body from within. Large releases distort gravity, space, local energy, and other stable rules, making trajectories and effects difficult to predict. Against Silvaris, she pierces his body and floods it with Chaos until his energy control and Domain collapse. (Chapters 2095, 2112–2114, and 2146)

Her attacks grow stronger and less predictable as more of the physical shell is removed and more Chaos is released. She can disperse into energy to escape a physical pin and concentrate thousands of tendrils or environmental distortions at once. These are demonstrated combat applications, but they are not proof she can freely rewrite any law or defeat any Eternal. Nux is immune to her attempts inside his own universe because he controls its Chaos, and Infinity Relics stabilize the battlefield strongly enough to suppress her. (Chapters 2107–2114 and 2196)

Law, Domain, and cultivation

Sharnoth is an Eternal and can create a Domain in which her Law is absolute against ordinary lower-phase beings. She uses it to exclude observers, conceal plans even from Zylarith, trap Supreme soldiers, and prevent escape. In direct combat, her Domain carries Chaos's destabilizing quality, while her completion of the Body depends on facing resistance strong enough to advance her comprehension. (Chapters 2030–2095)

Domains of comparable Eternals can clash and nullify one another, and an enemy world's Will can weaken Sharnoth while strengthening its own Progenitor. This is why she cannot simply invade Aurendor and defeat Vexarion despite being stronger away from his world. Infinity Domains and Nux's universe represent still higher authorities. Her latest explicit formal level remains Eternal; marriage and motherhood do not establish a later conventional stage. (Chapters 2075–2078, 2091–2115, and 2319)

Dual personalities and leadership

Chaos produces a battle personality that welcomes risk, while Zylarith's training creates a restrained self capable of ruling. The two can yield control to each other, with the chaotic self appearing for battle and the calm self returning when conflict ends. This switching is controlled well enough by Sharnoth to support long-term leadership, though strong combat and the complete physique can make the chaotic state dominant. It is a consequence of Chaos and adaptation, not a separately named Law or item. (Chapters 2108, 2146, and 2196–2197)

Outside battle, Sharnoth commands Khaemorr, recruits fallen peoples, forms alliances, and sustains a century-spanning war effort. Her judgment is not infallible—Nux dismantles her faction by exploiting mobility and information she cannot counter—but she recognizes when subordinates are losing confidence and can reconsider a plan after anger passes. Her late advice to Nux about mutual uncertainty shows strategic perspective independent of raw Chaos. (Chapters 1963, 2030–2078, and 2197)

Relationships

• Nux: Nux begins as the enemy dismantling Khaemorr, becomes the ally who fulfills Sharnoth's revenge, and anchors her beyond Zylarith's reach. Their marriage grows from a bargain that Nux coercively redefines into intimacy; it later includes shared strategy and their son Kaelith.
• Zylarith: Sharnoth's mentor, benefactor, and would-be controller. He gives her the Chaos Crystal and everything needed to grow, intending to possess the completed energy-body permanently.
• Vexarion: The architect of Nocthys's fall and focus of Sharnoth's century-spanning revenge. She captures him, recreates her father's isolation, breaks him through torture, and plans repeated false escapes; his final death is not confirmed in the corpus.
• Isaveth: Sharnoth's mother, whose suffering in Aurendor gives the revenge its emotional center. Sharnoth's memory of Isaveth asking for death remains vivid in her chaotic battle self.
• Kaelith: Sharnoth and Nux's son. He inherits her divided personality without her control and struggles to join the other Leander children, a problem she wants time and family to heal.
• Shadow: Shadow transports Sharnoth within Nux's universe and introduces her to the family's lack of formality. Her mind access and teasing make their early interactions adversarial even as they become sisters.
• Amaya: Amaya helps design the strategy that preserves Sharnoth's chance at revenge. She recognizes Sharnoth's extreme attachment to purpose and anticipates that Nux will bring her into the family.
