Lantern of Infinite Paths

The Lantern of Infinite Paths is one of Zarveth's Infinity Relics. It surveys immense numbers of possible actions and highlights paths that lead its wielder away from defeat.

History

From certainty to no path

Zarveth uses the Lantern while fighting Sharnoth, selecting a possibility in which he avoids her chaotic attacks and reaches her with the Blade of Rewriting. After Nux arrives and destroys two relics, the Lantern remains part of Zarveth's coordinated counterattack, displaying possible choices for defense, offense, retreat, and misdirection. None of its recommended responses can overcome Nux's authority inside his own universe. After the Mirror is destroyed, the Lantern ceases to show any route to victory. Nux then appears before it and crushes it, leaving Zarveth with only the Chronos Key and Crest of Eternity. (Chapters 2107 and 2110–2111)

Abilities and properties

  • The Lantern examines possibilities on an enormous scale and highlights outcomes in which its wielder avoids losing; Zarveth uses that guidance to navigate Sharnoth's otherwise unpredictable Chaos. (Chapter 2107)
  • It can present choices across several tactical categories, but guidance does not create a viable path where none exists. Against Nux inside his universe, every displayed option fails and the Lantern eventually shows nothing. (Chapters 2110–2111)
  • The corpus demonstrates predictive selection, not control over probability or the future itself, and does not explain the Lantern's range or activation cost. (Chapters 2107 and 2110–2111)
