Jiang Fan

Jiang Fan is the Utmost North Sage Emperor, ruler of Floating Snow City, elder brother of Jiang Lan, and father of Jiang Li. His story is driven by a conflict between those familial roles and his view of himself as a sovereign: he repeatedly treats marriage, alliance, and even kinship as instruments of Floating Snow City's standing and of his own ambition to become an Exalted Celestial.

Biography

The groom search and a sovereign's choice

When Qin Yu reaches Floating Snow City as both a suitor and a celebrated artifact craftsman, Jiang Fan receives him generously because befriending such a craftsman could materially strengthen the city. At the same time, Jiang Lan has warned that he will defend Jiang Li's wishes even against his brother. Jiang Fan therefore begins the groom search already divided between public authority, political advantage, and a family whose consent he cannot simply assume. He nevertheless frames the contest around candidates proving their “sincerity” through three gifts, while reserving the final choice for himself and his wife. (Chapters 569–572)

Qin Yu wins two of the three candidate places and offers a first-rate Grandmist Spiritual Treasure as his betrothal gift. Jiang Fan privately admits that he would choose Qin Yu under ordinary circumstances, but Zhou Huo offers something more personally compelling: the Thunder Punishment Exalted Celestial's single intervention in the coming struggle for Exalted Celestial status. Jiang Fan reasons that another first-rate treasure would chiefly benefit his clan, whereas this promise might elevate him. Remembering that choosing Zhou Xian will estrange Jiang Lan and Jiang Li, he consciously decides that one daughter cannot outweigh a once-in-billions-of-years opportunity. (Chapters 600–602)

Jiang Fan announces Zhou Xian as his son-in-law despite Jiang Li's protest and suppresses her attempt to speak. When Qin Yu challenges the supposed impartiality of that outcome, Jiang Fan insists that the undisclosed betrothal gift matters more to him than Qin Yu's advantages. He confines the space around Jiang Li and tries to stop Qin Yu from taking her, but Qin Yu's New Cosmos energy bypasses that confinement. Jiang Fan then joins Zhou Huo's attack, loses Jiang Li from his court, and accepts that Jiang Lan has broken with him rather than reconsidering the political choice that caused the rupture. War against Qin Yu

Jiang Fan's sovereign posture hardens into open hostility after Jiang Li becomes a Godking while pregnant. Asked whether the Sage Emperors should destroy Qin Yu's rising power, he agrees to “root out the threat” and treats his unborn grandchild as expendable. He joins five other Sage Emperors in surrounding Qin Yu and Jiang Li, attacks his daughter with Dark Origin energy, and accelerates his own time by several hundred thousand times to strike before she can respond. Jiang Li's protective dress prevents injury, and Qin Yu's counterattack breaks Jiang Fan's shield and Dark Origin defense, leaving him lightly injured and forcing him back. (Chapters 619–620)

The six Sage Emperors then combine their Origin energies into the Single Aura Six Elements, with Jiang Fan and the Utmost South Sage Emperor serving as the formation's principal forces. Their joint Spatial Freezing and attack are formidable enough that Yi Feng expects even the Asura Godking to avoid a direct clash, but Qin Yu collapses the frozen region with energy from his independent cosmos and escapes. In the aftermath, Jiang Fan recognizes that Qin Yu, Jiang Li, Jiang Lan, and several first-rate treasures would have made a stronger alliance than the one he chose. He briefly regrets rejecting Qin Yu, then suppresses that regret to preserve the authority of a decision already made. (Chapters 620–621)

The Exalted Celestial struggle and its consequences

Jiang Fan continues pursuing the Exalted Celestial opportunity as the Living World Seal's portions draw the Godkings into escalating conflict. His campaign ends in a reversal of status: Qin Yu draws him and the other contenders into the New Cosmos, where their spatial and temporal laws cease to function and an ordinary Spatial Prison renders them helpless. Qin Yu kills Zhou Xian but releases Jiang Fan without punishment because he remains Jiang Li's father and Jiang Lan's brother. The mercy preserves Jiang Fan's life while demonstrating that neither his title nor his clan treasure can protect him outside the laws on which his power depends. (Chapters 644–671)

Four years after returning to Floating Snow City, Jiang Fan is withdrawn, remorseful, and unsure whether choosing Zhou Xian was a mistake. He acknowledges that his ambition cost him both his brother and daughter, yet initially says his public declaration leaves him too ashamed to face Qin Yu. Jiang Lan breaks the deadlock by giving him the Back Earth Seal and All People Seal in exchange for ending his hostility toward Jiang Li's family. Jiang Fan accepts, admits that he hurt them, and sends his wife and children to renew contact, although he does not yet go himself. (Chapters 676–677)

The two seal portions restore Jiang Fan's hope, but not the missing cultivation. Even inside a space accelerated five thousand times, he gains only slight improvement in Time Acceleration and no comprehension of Time Stop. When the Living World Seal is reassembled, its portions leave their holders and the higher power governing the mountain chooses Chehou Yuan, who did not fight in the contest, as the new Exalted Celestial. Jiang Fan responds with jealousy and angry laughter that decades of struggle and many deaths have benefited someone else, then returns to Floating Snow City with his defining ambition unfulfilled. Appearance and personality

The corpus emphasizes Jiang Fan's bearing more than a fixed physical description. He presents a controlled, ceremonially gracious face as Sage Emperor, but he is highly conscious of status, public reputation, and the strategic value of people and treasures. His calculation is not emotionless: he loves his wife, hesitates over losing Jiang Lan and Jiang Li, and later feels genuine shame. His central flaw is that he repeatedly subordinates those feelings to ambition and face until defeat makes the cost impossible to ignore. (Chapters 569–605, 621, 676–677)

Abilities and cultivation

Sage Emperor laws and Dark Origin energy

Jiang Fan is a Godking and first-generation Sage Emperor who has comprehended the Divine Realm's Spatial Laws. He can teleport, create independent spaces, impose Spatial Confinement, and manipulate local space in battle. His Dark Origin Spiritual Pearl, the Jiang clan's bloodline-bound protection treasure, emits Dark Origin energy, strengthens his defenses, and protects his soul; it allows him to survive Qin Yu's spear attack, but it cannot prevent the spear from breaking his shield and forcing him to retreat with injuries. (Chapters 604, 619–620)

Temporal law

Jiang Fan demonstrates Time Acceleration at several hundred thousand times during his attack on Jiang Li, allowing him to act before an ordinary response. He can also maintain a training space at five thousand times acceleration, though doing so for long periods is difficult. These feats do not imply mastery of the whole Temporal Law: after prolonged study of two Living World Seal portions, his Time Acceleration improves only slightly, he has no comprehension of Time Stop, and Time Reversal remains beyond him. Combined Sage Emperor formation and limits

With five other Sage Emperors, Jiang Fan can contribute Dark Origin energy to Spatial Freezing and the Single Aura Six Elements. The combined formation is vastly stronger than an isolated Godking attack, but it still fails to hold Qin Yu because the formation governs the Divine Realm's space, not Qin Yu's New Cosmos energy. That same limitation becomes absolute inside the New Cosmos: Jiang Fan loses access to the spatial and temporal laws underlying his rank and can be confined without resistance. Relationships

• Jiang Li: His daughter. He tries to determine her marriage as a sovereign rather than honor her choice as a father, later authorizes violence against her household, and only permits renewed family contact after his defeat.
• Jiang Lan: His younger brother and eventual political opponent. Their break over Jiang Li follows an older wound involving Zuo Qiumei; Jiang Lan nevertheless offers reconciliation and the two seal portions for the living family's sake.
• Qin Yu: The suitor Jiang Fan rejects for political and personal ambition. Qin Yu becomes the stronger rival, defeats his coalitions, and ultimately spares him because of the family connection.
• Zhou Xian: The son-in-law Jiang Fan publicly chooses despite Qin Yu's superior performance, chiefly because the Zhou clan's promised Exalted Celestial intervention serves Jiang Fan's ambition.
• Zhou Huo: Political ally in the groom-search bargain and subsequent campaigns against Qin Yu. Their alliance survives Jiang Fan's moments of regret but fails to deliver the promised elevation.
• Chehou Yuan: The unexpected recipient of the completed Living World Seal and the Exalted Celestial status Jiang Fan sought.
• Chunyu Rou: His wife and confidante, who understands his ambition, comforts him after defeat, and carries his first gesture of reconciliation to Jiang Li's household.

Items

• Living World Seal: Jiang Fan ultimately holds the Back Earth Seal and All People Seal portions after Jiang Lan gives them to him. He studies their Temporal Laws, but cannot retain them when the seal is reassembled and does not become its final recipient. (Chapters 676–680)
