Uriel

Uriel is a male Archangel of the Pontiff's Citadel, known by the title Cherubim or Cherub. He is named off-page in Chapter 81 and first appears directly in Chapter 83 while intercepting Xiuxiu at Zeus-1. Uriel is distinct from Sariel, the female Archangel of the Moon; the similar names do not indicate an alternate identity. (Chapters 81–89, 373, and 376–382)

Biography

Failed interceptions and institutional service

Uriel approaches Xiuxiu with polished courtesy but makes clear that the Citadel will not let her leave. His six-winged Cherubim mecha and light Discipline trap Asura in a cage of golden attacks, yet his confidence lets Xiuxiu damage the machine from shoulder to cockpit before he contains her. An illusion created by the Accountant then frightens him into abandoning the pursuit, allowing Zeus-1 to escape; although he technically overcomes Xiuxiu, the Cherubim requires months of repair and is said never to recover its former condition. Later, Uriel serves as a cautious analyst during the Citadel's security crisis. He expects an investigation to yield little, studies the strange black-and-white power used by the infiltrators, and privately suspects Jue Di's Taiji methods without presenting conjecture as proof. That intelligence coexists with institutional ruthlessness when he agrees that an inconvenient tailor must be killed. Lan Jue exploits the meditation chamber's isolation to ambush him: Uriel burns his Core to release Holy Fire and tries to escape, but the attackers extinguish it, knock him unconscious, and leave him with Raphael for the Dark Citadel to recover. The Citadel later pays for their return. Uriel is still described as suffering from the Holy City incident when mentioned in Chapter 398, but he is not directly shown again and receives no later individual fate. Appearance and personality

Uriel is a tall, graceful man with dark eyes and an elegant, dangerous smile. Six white wings appear behind him when his power is released, and his light frequently changes between white, gold, and pearlescent tones. His cultivated manners function as pressure rather than warmth: he threatens Xiuxiu while presenting himself as a gentleman. (Chapters 83–89 and 377–378)

He is observant, analytical, and more cautious than several of the Citadel's stronger combatants. He researches unfamiliar evidence and resists stating an unproven answer, but that restraint is tactical rather than compassionate. His willingness to arrange a civilian's death and his attempt to detain Xiuxiu show loyalty to the Citadel over personal mercy. (Chapters 373 and 376–378)

Disciplines and abilities

Uriel is a ninth-level sixth-rank light Adept. He forms golden threads and nets, white or golden shields, forceful light blasts, and six wings, and he can burn his Core to produce Holy Fire in an emergency. Burning the Core is costly rather than a routine enhancement, and Lan Jue and Qianlin's combined protogenic power extinguishes the flame before Uriel can use it to escape. The narration emphasizes his intelligence but places his combat experience and strength below Michael, Gabriel, and Metatron. (Chapters 83–89 and 376–382)

His advanced Cherubim mecha also carries six wings. Those wings launch as golden arrows and form white columns that cage a target, allowing Uriel to control space around a fleeing opponent. Xiuxiu's counterattack exposes the system's limit: once Asura cuts deeply through its torso and opens the cockpit, Uriel's advantage becomes precarious. The damage requires at least three months of repair and permanently reduces the machine's condition. (Chapters 84–91)

Relationships

• Xiuxiu: Uriel intercepts Xiuxiu at Zeus-1 and eventually contains Asura, but she inflicts lasting damage on his Cherubim mecha before outside deception forces him to withdraw.
• Lan Jue: Uriel correctly associates the infiltrators' power with Jue Di's tradition, but Lan Jue later ambushes and captures him before he can turn that suspicion into proof.
• Raphael: Both Archangels become captives in the Citadel conflict and are deposited together for the Dark Citadel to recover and ransom.
