Raphael

Raphael is the male Angel of Healing among the Pontiff's Archangels. He is a ninth-level support adept whose restoration of injured allies is more formidable than his direct attack, a distinction that shapes both his battlefield role and his eventual capture by Lan Jue.

Biography

Pursuit of Zeus

Raphael joins Michael, Gabriel, and Uriel in the Shattered Starfields operation intended to seize Mika and eliminate Lan Jue as an obstacle. When Lan Jue refuses to surrender her, Raphael supports the ambush as a six-winged seraph and repeatedly withdraws from the front line to heal Gabriel and Michael after Zeus injures them. Michael ultimately loses their agreed duel, and Raphael helps stabilize his burned body before recommending that the Citadel retreat and reassess Zeus rather than continue the confrontation. Kidnapping and uncertain later fate

Lan Jue later finds Raphael in Reims and targets him as the Citadel's weakest direct combatant. Lan Jue and Zhou Qianlin disable the city's surveillance, overwhelm Raphael before he can summon help, seal his Discipline, and deliver him to the Dark Citadel with Uriel as part of a diversion. Satan recognizes the attempted provocation and bargains with the Pontiff instead of killing them; the Pontiff personally goes to retrieve the captives, and Raphael is subsequently absent from the tournament because he is still recovering. A later recollection confirms his earlier participation in the trap against Zeus, but the corpus gives no further personal scene and does not identify him among the handful of archangels who survive the Citadel's destruction. Appearance and personality

Raphael is a handsome man whose beauty is typical of the Archangels. In battle he first appears over two meters tall in silent medieval plate armor; in Reims he favors tailored suits, including ash-gray and pale yellow combinations. He can sound sincere and conciliatory while demanding Mika's surrender, but self-preservation quickly displaces concern for his lover Julie when he is attacked. His interest in fashion, flirtation, and multiple lovers also contrasts with the Citadel's public image of austere holiness. (Chapters 81, 370–372)

Holy healing

Raphael is a ninth-level seventh-ranked light adept whose Discipline specializes in healing. Gentle white radiance from his hands repairs Gabriel's broken body and wings and later stabilizes Michael's severe burns. Like the other senior angels he can manifest six wings for flight, defense, and enhanced holy power. (Chapters 82–83, 86, 91)

Support limits

His support focus leaves his direct attack power below that of the other senior archangels. Although he can create a holy shield and release a broad shock wave, Lan Jue and Qianlin break the shield, disperse the attack, and knock him unconscious before reinforcements arrive. A protogenic seal can also cut him off from his Discipline and eventually consume his cultivation unless a Paragon removes it. (Chapters 370–372, 381)

• Lan Jue: Raphael first helps ambush Lan Jue for protecting Mika. Lan Jue later exploits Raphael's limited offense, kidnaps him, and uses him as leverage in a deception aimed at the two Citadels. (Chapters 81–91, 370–382)
• Michael: Raphael supports the Angel of War by healing his grievous injuries after the duel with Zeus. (Chapters 83, 86, 91)
• Gabriel: Gabriel and Raphael fight together in the Shattered Starfields, where Raphael repeatedly restores the Messenger of Death after Lan Jue's attacks. (Chapters 81–91)
