Sariel

Sariel is the Pontiff's Citadel's female Archangel of the Moon and a ninth-level sixth-rank Adept. Her cold public reserve conceals a decisive personal loyalty to Su Xiaosu, whom she regards as almost a sister. Sariel is distinct from Uriel, the male Archangel called the Cherubim: their names, titles, powers, and Citadel roles belong to two separate characters. (Chapters 373–376 and 416–427)

Biography

Conscience, covert aid, and the tournament

Sariel first appears among the Citadel's Archangels while its leaders investigate Raphael's disappearance. She secretly meets Lan Jue and Qianlin because the Citadel is imprisoning and suppressing Xiaosu, a former Moonfiend ruler with whom Sariel has a sister-like bond. Her Discipline prevents action she cannot sincerely accept, so she navigates the conflict by giving the rescuers Xiaosu's location, timing, blueprints, and careful intelligence without openly turning against every Citadel interest. The information enables the infiltration and also demonstrates the cost of her choice: violating her conscience could destroy her power or sanity, while discovery would mark her as a traitor. (Chapters 373–378)

At the Great Adept Tournament, Sariel's conduct restores much of the confidence damaged by the infiltration. She wins an early match, then fights Chu Cheng with enough resolve to risk mutual destruction despite knowing that his rank exceeds hers. After an audience vote revives her tournament run, she pushes Lan Jue into a narrow tactical victory with lunar holy light, a defensive full moon, and a final dragon-shaped attack. She concedes only after her reserves fall to roughly forty percent, and Lan Jue privately acknowledges that concealed advantages helped him win. Sariel is eliminated but not disgraced; she is last directly seen alive with the Citadel coalition in Chapter 487, and later chapters do not establish an individual fate. (Chapters 398–427 and 487)

Appearance and personality

Sariel is a tall, exceptionally fair woman with golden hair, large baby-blue eyes, and a half-moon mark on her forehead. Her white robes, pale skin, and detached voice reinforce the image of moonlight, while six wings appear when she releases her power. She normally remains quiet and expressionless, making her private intervention for Xiaosu especially consequential. (Chapters 373–376 and 416)

Beneath that reserve, Sariel is loyal, fearless, and stubbornly honorable. She refuses pity from Chu Cheng and continues fighting when surrender would be safer. The same inner certainty governs her covert aid: she does not help Lan Jue from impulsive rebellion, but because preserving Xiaosu accords with the conscience on which her Discipline itself depends. Disciplines and abilities

Sariel is a ninth-level sixth-rank Adept whose Light of Conscience is described as inherent and integrated with her being. It grants powerful holy and lunar manifestations but imposes an unusual moral limit: she cannot wholeheartedly perform an act she believes is wrong. Forcing herself past that limit could collapse her cultivation and drive her mad, so conviction is both the foundation and the constraint of her power. (Chapters 375 and 418)

In combat she produces six wings, a crescent or full moon, holy swords, shields, intense light, and a lunar dragon-shaped strike. Her light can withstand substantial lightning, and her Rite of the Holy Spirit escalates offense and defense together. She is unusually tough and recovers from impacts that appear decisive, but she remains a sixth-rank ninth-level Adept: Chu Cheng's higher rank overwhelms her, while Lan Jue wins through superior dual-Discipline tactics and a concealed reserve rather than simple force. Relationships

• Su Xiaosu: Sariel and the former Moonfiend Empress are described as practically sisters. That bond leads Sariel to risk her position and cultivation by enabling Xiaosu's rescue.
• Metatron: Metatron taught Sariel nearly everything and understands her as though she were his child. Their closeness also makes her tournament performance important to deflecting suspicion from her covert aid.
• Lan Jue: Sariel supplies Lan Jue with intelligence for the rescue, then later faces him as a serious tournament opponent and forces him to rely on concealed advantages.
• Chu Cheng: Chu Cheng defeats Sariel after she rejects his attempt to spare her. Her determination earns respect even though the rank difference decides the match.
