Michael

Michael is the Pontiff’s Citadel combat leader known as the Angel of War. The title names Michael and is also used for his custom mecha, so references to the Angel of War can indicate either pilot or machine depending on context. At peak Ninth Level, Michael can use Adventus to touch the Tenth Level briefly, but his failed attempt to capture Mika leaves both him and his mecha gravely damaged.

Biography

The Archangel who tries to take Mika

Michael leads Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel in the Shattered Starfields trap intended to kill Lan Jue and recover Mika. He takes Zeus as his own opponent, activates Adventus when ordinary Angelism cannot contain him, and then continues the fight through the Angel of War mecha. Lan Jue wins through complementary lightning, speed, timing, and considerable risk rather than an easy power advantage. Michael survives, but his machine is described as destroyed and his body requires roughly a year of recovery; Lan Jue remains seriously injured long afterward. (Chapters 81–104)

A recovered weapon of the Citadel

Months later Michael is still secluded and furious over the public humiliation, then appears almost fully recovered among the Citadel’s senior Archangels. He remains one of its most experienced fighters and is treated as suitable protection when other officers travel. Later references to Lan Jue’s victory emphasize how quickly Zeus has advanced, but the supplied corpus does not give Michael a rematch, Paragon breakthrough, or death. His last direct institutional appearances leave him alive within the Citadel; subsequent losses to that organization do not establish his individual fate. (Chapters 373–457 and 577–581)

Appearance and personality

Michael is a hard-featured, golden-haired man who first appears in fiery red armor with a long crimson cloak. Holy light makes him look both brilliant and severe. In ordinary Citadel meetings his controlled bearing remains, although anger over defeat is difficult for him to hide. The Angel of War mecha repeats his red-and-gold visual identity on a colossal scale. (Chapters 81–87 and 373–378)

He is disciplined, proud, direct, and confident enough to claim the most dangerous opponent for himself. He can recognize Lan Jue’s strategy once Adventus is spent, but only after underestimating the dual Discipline that makes the plan work. His long anger at defeat shows that martial honor and institutional pride are closely joined for him. (Chapters 81–91 and 373–378)

Disciplines and abilities

Angelism and Adventus

Michael’s Angelism normally manifests six seraphic wings and holy fire or light. At Ninth Level ninth rank he stands at the human threshold below Paragon. Adventus expands the manifestation to twelve wings and briefly pushes him to the Tenth Level boundary, enough to rival the Pontiff’s unenhanced force. The transformation is optimized for breaking defenses rather than speed, lasts only a limited period, and cannot be used again immediately. (Chapters 82–87)

Holy combat and the Angel of War mecha

He fights with holy blades, fire, aerial movement, shields, and large attacks capable of seriously injuring a peer. His custom Angel of War is a top-class mecha whose offensive method can damage its own operating condition while inflicting enormous harm. Michael is a dangerous but not God-ranked pilot on Lan Jue’s level; accepting a one-on-one mecha exchange and underestimating Zeus contribute to the machine’s destruction. (Chapters 81–104 and 138–140)

Relationships

  • Lan Jue: Michael’s principal on-page opponent. Their Shattered Starfields duel nearly destroys both combatants and becomes a lasting humiliation for the Citadel.
  • Mika: The target Michael’s team attempts to seize because of her Dark Citadel inheritance. His institutional mission conflicts with her choice to remain free of both Western factions.
  • Gabriel: A fellow Archangel and subordinate combatant in the trap. Michael assigns him the other defenders while taking Zeus himself.
  • Pontiff: Michael’s leader and source of institutional authority. The Pontiff later cites Michael’s severe injuries while negotiating the consequences of the failed attack.
  • Metatron: The Citadel’s senior administrator and first Archangel. Michael remains one of the most experienced fighters within the command structure Metatron coordinates.
