Kenneth

Kenneth Xin Ashleigh is the delicate silver-haired student who becomes William's roommate, trusted officer, and covert protector. Kenneth is eventually revealed to be a male homunculus remotely controlled by Acedia, a female Elf and bearer of Sloth; the two names therefore describe the constructed body and its hidden operator rather than two unrelated agents. What begins as surveillance sanctioned by the Silvermoon Continent develops into genuine loyalty, culminating in the destruction of Kenneth's Philosopher's Stone so William's trapped allies can reach him. (Chapters 130–212, 429, 592–596, 636–642, and 1073)

Biography

A roommate hiding a protective mission

Kenneth meets William as his timid new roommate at Hellan Royal Academy. Despite his noble upbringing, he lacks the arrogance Kenneth dislikes in other nobles, and the two settle quickly into an easy friendship: they share meals, Kenneth looks after William when he falls asleep, and his concern soon includes teasing questions about William's meetings with girls. Kenneth becomes part of the circle that observes William's growth and serves under him as one of his trusted academy officers, all while keeping his true origin and assignment hidden. (Chapters 130, 164, 192, and 203–212)

That concealment is surveillance, but Kenneth later explains that he volunteered so no more hostile observer would be assigned. He reports only details calculated to keep the Elders from paying close attention to William and refuses to join the anti-human Elven faction during the Southern war because he does not want William to hate him. His experiences also reveal gaps in his preparation: after being caught by unfamiliar local laws, he recognizes that he needs to understand the Human world rather than rely on an outsider's assumptions. When war separates them, he warns Eowyn about William and asks her to keep Elven forces from harming him, then returns toward Hellan because concern outweighs the safety of remaining away. (Chapters 216–241, 429, and 594)

Kenneth later reaches the Kraetor Empire as a representative of the Silvermoon Continent and enters its Tournament of Champions while searching for William. Ashe and Sidonie initially suspect him of betrayal, but he directly admits the spying and explains the safeguards behind it. His private goal is misguided but protective: believing Sidonie forced William into an engagement, he hopes to win the Emperor's promised wish and free his former roommate. That plan shows both the depth and limit of his loyalty—he will expose part of his hidden strength for William, yet incomplete information leads him to interfere in a relationship William has already freely accepted. (Chapters 592–596 and 619)

Kenneth advances to the tournament final by combining a short sword with control over time, then fights Lilith. His strongest state lengthens his hair and awakens the Divinity behind the body, but sustained use makes him increasingly drowsy and cannot be maintained indefinitely. Lilith identifies the Sin he bears and defeats him after forcing a contest in which stopping her time is excluded. Kenneth's defeat leaves him unconscious and in Sidonie's protection; it also makes clear that the shy student persona has always housed power and obligations far older than his apparent age. (Chapters 596, 636–642, and 657)

The guardian revealed through sacrifice

After recovering, Kenneth resumes the role of companion rather than adversary. He looks for William, supports him when a headmaster uses a befuddlement spell, carries him home after another dangerous encounter, and supplies knowledge about the Requiem Antz from the Silvermoon Elders' disastrous experience. He is also tasked with watching over Eowyn on behalf of the Elven King and his master. These actions preserve his characteristic method: he protects through observation, information, and timely intervention, disclosing only as much of himself as the immediate danger requires. (Chapters 674–735 and 746–758)

The last concealment falls when William and his allies are sealed inside the Thousand Beast Domain while he fights Ahriman's forces elsewhere. Kenneth offers to break the barrier but warns that everyone who leaves may die and that his own body will disappear. He then reveals the red Philosopher's Stone embedded in his chest and explains the mechanism: Kenneth is a homunculus, Acedia controls it remotely through the Stone, and detonating that core will create the space-time ripple needed to breach the prison. His calm request that the others save William in his place turns years of covert guardianship into an irreversible personal choice. (Chapter 1073)

At Ella's request, the operator gives her true name before sacrificing the construct. The Philosopher's Stone explodes, Kenneth's body disappears, and the route opens for William's allies to join the battle. Far away in the Spring of Life, Acedia awakens long enough to tell Arwen that the prophecy has come to pass and that William needs help, then returns to sleep. A later comparison confirms that Kenneth's power included stopping time, but it does not restore the homunculus; Kenneth's final status is therefore destruction of the vessel, while Acedia continues as the surviving person who acted through it. Appearance and personality

Kenneth appears as a delicate, angelic-looking teenage boy with silver-gray hair and blue eyes. His soft features can pass for those of a beautiful girl when his hair extends to the ground during use of Divinity, but artifacts examining the homunculus identify its body as male. This form is distinct from Acedia's actual female Elven body and should not be used to infer that Kenneth physically transforms between the two. (Chapters 130, 592, 636–637, and 1073)

He is outwardly timid, polite, and attentive, yet also perceptive and capable of hard decisions. Kenneth dislikes arrogant nobles and unnecessary killing, but executes an unrepentant murderer without hesitation and bargains firmly when William's companions interrogate him. His chief flaw is secrecy: protective intentions leave friends unable to distinguish loyalty from espionage, and his effort to undo William's engagement rests on a mistaken understanding. Even so, his final choice is unambiguous—he gives up an irreplaceable vessel so others can risk their lives beside the person he has guarded. (Chapters 130, 192, 429, 594–596, and 1073)

Skills, classes, and divinities

Kenneth's combat abilities are expressions of Acedia's power through an artificial body. The corpus establishes time manipulation, abnormal control of the body's hair, swordsmanship, and remote operation through a Philosopher's Stone, but does not provide a conventional System job-class sheet or full catalogue of techniques. His apparent youth and physical sex describe the homunculus, not the nature or age of its operator.

Time manipulation and Sloth

Kenneth can slow an opponent until that person moves at a fraction of normal speed, creating an opening for a simple sword stroke to become fatal. At greater output he invokes the Spirits of Time and casts Time Stop, freezing Lilith so completely that she cannot blink while he approaches. The story later distinguishes this authority from Temperance's ability to hasten or slow motion specifically because Kenneth can stop time outright. (Chapters 596, 636, and 1117)

The power has strict operating limits. Kenneth must move steadily so he does not break his Time Stop, cannot sustain the Divinity for long, and becomes progressively drowsy as its duration increases. During the final with Lilith he accepts a condition forbidding him from stopping her time, demonstrating that his other techniques remain usable but that removal of his strongest control sharply changes the fight. His sleepiness and identity as a Sin connect the vessel's power to Acedia's Sloth, not to an independently established Kenneth Divinity. (Chapters 636–637)

Living hair, swordsmanship, and Luna

Activating more of Acedia's power causes Kenneth's silver-gray hair to grow dramatically. He can move it like multiple limbs, use it to push himself away from attacks, and wrap it around his body as a dense defense capable of deflecting crystal shrapnel. It is versatile rather than absolute: Lilith bypasses the outer defense by manipulating crystal dust through his skin, and the burden of the divine state continues to shorten the time he can fight at full output. (Chapters 636–637)

Kenneth uses a short sword with precise, economical attacks and is willing to kill when he judges an opponent irredeemably dangerous. For travel he summons Luna, a flying three-meter black fox with four tails and a silver crescent on her forehead. The corpus identifies Luna as his loyal Beast Companion but does not explain a System bond, evolution path, or independent combat technique for her. (Chapters 429 and 596)

Homunculus body and Philosopher's Stone

Kenneth's body is remotely controlled by Acedia through the red Philosopher's Stone implanted in its chest. This construction lets Acedia act far from her true body in the Spring of Life and maintain a separate public identity, but it also creates a single critical dependency: the Stone is both control core and the means by which the vessel can be sacrificed. The story does not establish that Kenneth can continue once that core is destroyed. (Chapter 1073)

Detonating the Stone produces a ripple in space and time strong enough to disrupt the barrier sealing the Thousand Beast Domain. The result is escape for William's allies and immediate disappearance of the homunculus. Because Acedia survives remotely, the act destroys her proxy rather than her true body; because the Stone is described as precious and sacrificed as a last resort, no evidence supports treating the breach as repeatable after Kenneth's destruction. (Chapter 1073)

• William: Kenneth becomes William's roommate, friend, and trusted officer while secretly screening him from more dangerous Elven surveillance.
