Ashe
Ashe, whose true name is Ashera Dy Cordelia, is a half-Nymph warrior first known as Ian, one of Est's retainers and Isaac's twin. Astrid's curse sealed Ashe in a boy's body, but the identity later revealed beneath that form is continuous with Ian rather than a separate person. Her decision to give William half of her Spirit Core saves his life, makes her his first Familia member and eventual second wife, and establishes a bond that shapes both her combat development and her later sacrifices. (Chapters 64, 289–301, 359, and 933)
Biography
Retainer on the road to courage
Ashe enters the story as Ian, a young retainer trained alongside Isaac to protect Est without hesitation. When a Mountain Troll attacks their party, the twins remove Est from the carriage and try to keep their charge safe; William and Ella's intervention leaves Ashe with a lasting memory of William placing himself between the troll and them. Her duty remains centered on Est during the Trial of Courage, where she pledges to help her young master clear the trial and initially resents William's attempt to command their group. (Chapters 64–70 and 301)
Her antagonism toward William is real but never simple indifference. Ashe uses an ability fueled by her anger to track him when Est's party needs help, accepts his leadership once danger proves cooperation necessary, and gradually comes to respect the competence beneath his provocations. At Hestia Academy she continues to quarrel with him, yet worries when he is hurt, objects to the fact that Celine enslaved him, and joins his Angorian War Sovereign at Est's request. The appointment formally places her in William's service while still allowing her to support Est and monitor the growing burdens around their friend. (Chapters 71, 153–155, 189, 203, and 211)
A hidden heart revealed during war
Ashe's jealousy of Wendy exposes feelings she does not yet understand, but the war and the attack on Hestia Academy force those feelings into the open. After William destroys the Astral Worm at the cost of his collapsing Sea of Consciousness, Ashe abandons caution, carries him into the academy's underground lake, and temporarily unlocks the form sealed by Astrid's curse. In that form she converts the ley line's magic into Spirit Power, gives William half of her Spirit Core, and accepts the bodily and spiritual weakening that follows because it is the only means she knows to keep his inner world from disintegrating. (Chapters 234, 289–290)
The rescue reveals that Ian is Ashe: a half-Nymph girl trapped in a boy's form, not a second identity or a disguise adopted merely to approach William. She openly admits loving him, takes primary responsibility for nourishing his damaged soul, and helps Wendy and Est stabilize his recovery. William promises to take responsibility without treating her sacrifice casually, and the two spend the following days exchanging their life stories before attempting Familia Oversoul. Their fusion turns the formerly combative retainer into William's first Familia member and a partner who can advise, restrain, and fight through him while his own spiritual condition remains fragile. (Chapters 290–301)
Fighting for the Southern Continent
Ashe's new intimacy does not make her passive. She communicates with William over great distances through their divided Spirit Core, insists on accompanying him against dangerous foes when possible, and merges with him when his damaged Sea of Consciousness makes prolonged combat unsafe. She coordinates with his will rather than replacing it, repeatedly cautions him to conserve strength, and supports the campaigns against the forces threatening the Southern Continent. Her protection is both tactical and personal: the bond lets her assess damage to his Spiritual World and transfer Spirit Power to sustain its recovery. (Chapters 346, 354, 364–371)
She also fights independently and refuses to be treated as someone William must keep behind him. Against a Goblin Chieftain, Ashe transforms, combines her water-whip attacks with Wendy's spear work, and makes clear that both women intend to share the dangers of battle. During the defense against the Elven forces, she rides the evolved Ragnar, shields Est from Drakon Nalzrig, and is overwhelmed by a Myriad Beast despite committing her full strength. William withdraws her after she falls, leaving her injured but alive; the outcome reinforces both her courage and the scale of enemies that raw resolve cannot overcome. (Chapters 388–399 and 489–501)
Training in Atlantis and life in Kraetor
After the Southern war, Ashe helps build strength for the future through William's System-mediated Familia features. He adds Fighter as a subclass to complement her Spirit Fencer training, then has her develop Earth Mage so that she can qualify for Geomancer. Ashe accepts the unfamiliar arrangement because it refines her whip-sword technique and gives her terrain-dependent magic; she proves the progression in Atlantis by defeating a floor boss on her own, then works with Ragnar after Kinship Evolution raises him into the elemental Grand Cerberus form. (Chapters 407, 421, 434, and 525–528)
Only Ashe accompanies William to the Kraetor Empire while Wendy and Est remain in the Southern Continent. She publicly continues as Ian Dy Moxie, William's retainer, while privately serving as his wife, confidante, and the person best able to stabilize his spiritual condition. When William and Chiffon become trapped in the Tower of Babylon, Ashe cannot force her way inside; instead she supports Sidonie, protects Kenneth because he carries a message from William's mother, and uses the restored Familia connection to receive William's account of his marriage to Chiffon. Her concern shifts from possessive rivalry toward an increasingly cooperative household in which she treats Sidonie and Chiffon as people whose safety matters to her. (Chapters 514–517, 584–598, 627–647)
The curse-breaking journey and new alliances
William's purpose in Kraetor remains the removal of the curse on Ashe, Est, and Isaac, and Ashe bears the uncertainty of that mission while he undertakes Aamon's trials. During William's absence she serves as Sidonie's retainer, watches over their shared domain, and feels the backlash of his most extreme exertions through the half-heart they share. Once he returns, she joins Sidonie and Chiffon in dungeon combat, using water magic and her sword whip against Millennial-ranked opponents while also encouraging Sidonie to gain practical fighting experience rather than depend entirely on Morgana. (Chapters 656–657, 670–686, and 748–764)
Ashe remains behind with Sidonie when William enters the Deadlands and later supports Chiffon through painful separations and the arrival of new members of their extended family. Her patience is rewarded when Astrid announces that William's undertaking has earned recognition and lifts the curse: Ashe permanently returns to her female form, feels the Ancient Power in her body awaken again, and immediately seeks William to thank him. The release fulfills the promise underlying their journey, but it does not erase the years she lived as Ian; both names continue to identify the same woman and the relationships she formed under the curse. (Chapters 769–787, 933–951)
Death before the Heir of Darkness
With her curse broken, Ashe takes her place openly among William's wives and helps receive displaced Demon clans into the Thousand Beast Domain. When William is trapped against Felix and Ahriman's forces, she refuses to remain behind a barrier and chooses the risk of death over watching him suffer alone. Once Acedia opens the way, Ashe joins the battle against the Shadow Demons. Her choice is consistent with the warrior pride she asserted years earlier: William's fight is not something she will observe from safety merely because the enemy is stronger. (Chapters 992–999 and 1073–1074)
That choice ends in sacrifice. When Felix pierces William's chest, Ashe senses the half of her heart within him failing and runs toward him; Ahriman intervenes, pins her to the ground with a spear, and kills her before she can reach him. Her soul carries a trace of Astrid's Divinity, making it a target for Ahriman, while her last remaining life force passes to William and helps keep him barely alive. Ella preserves Ashe's body in ice, and William later places it in a crystal cavern rather than accept her death as final. Ashe's defeat therefore changes the direction of his life even in her absence, turning the rescue of her soul and the restoration of her body into part of his struggle against darkness. (Chapters 1075–1078, 1091, and 1128)
The Underworld, return, and renewed vows
Ashe's soul is taken to the Underworld with Sidonie, Morgana, and Chiffon. In Lust's Abode she stays with Sidonie and Morgana, preserving the family bonds that kept her from facing death alone, and immediately joins them when William finally reaches them. Their reunion restores hope but not yet life: Ashe warns William that securing their release may demand the loss of something precious and listens closely as he explains the strange path he has been told will lead to Hope. Her response retains the skeptical practicality she showed as Ian, questioning the pattern rather than simply accepting destiny at face value. (Chapters 1299–1305)
When William returns to extract the souls, Ashe participates in Sidonie and Morgana's plan to leave Lust's Abode hidden among a crowd. She consents to enter a soul vial, supports William when Thanatos tries to reclaim them, and ultimately merges with William alongside the other wives, lending him her power in the confrontation with the God of Death. After returning to the surface, Ashe is revived; her movement is initially stiff, but she recovers enough to walk and resumes her place beside William. A month later she is escorted by her father, Hywell, and renews her marriage vows in the larger ceremony William arranges to honor his promises. By the final recorded phase, she is alive, restored to her own body, and still part of the family whose survival she repeatedly placed above herself. (Chapters 1410–1418 and 1422–1430)
Appearance and personality
The curse initially presents Ashe as Ian, a brown-haired boy, while her true form is a half-Nymph mermaid with long light-blue hair and purple eyes. In mermaid battle form she can stand on two legs on land and wears sea-blue armor of an unfamiliar metal; the narrative explicitly notes that her power is reduced on land and reaches its full expression in water. Her blue chest gem is the visible center of the Spirit Core she divides with William. Isaac, later known as Aisha, is her twin and closely resembles her apart from having light-brown rather than light-blue hair. (Chapters 289, 346, 388, and 1464)
Ashe is direct, proud, and quick to challenge behavior she dislikes. Her early hostility toward William, sharp jealousy, and habit of pulling his ear or pinching him coexist with disciplined loyalty to Est and a strong aversion to enslavement. Once she recognizes her feelings, the same intensity becomes protectiveness: she gives away half her heart, refuses to abandon difficult battles, watches William's health, and confronts him when she suspects recklessness or evasiveness. She is also pragmatic enough to cooperate with romantic rivals, support William's other wives, and warn him about costs that affection alone cannot solve. (Chapters 69–71, 189, 289–301, 397, 628, and 1303)
Skills, classes, and divinities
Ashe's powers combine her half-Nymph spiritual nature, the Spirit Fencer class, System-granted subclasses accessed through her Familia bond, and a trace of Astrid's Divinity. The corpus demonstrates substantial water and spiritual applications, but it does not provide a complete catalogue of her Spirit Fencer techniques or explain every effect of Astrid's power. Her battle regalia and weapons are equipment, not innate abilities.
Half-Nymph nature, curse, and true form
Ashe's Nymph blood gives her unusually strong Spiritual Power. Astrid's curse seals that power and places her in a boy's body; while sealed, her Human side converts the inaccessible Spiritual Power into Magic Power, which explains Ian's placement in Hestia Academy's Magic Division. The Trial of Enlightenment lets her temporarily loosen the seal and assume her mermaid form for roughly three hours, but does not remove the curse. Within Atlantis she can retain that form without the normal time limit, and Astrid only lifts the curse permanently after William completes the undertaking that earns her recognition. (Chapters 289–301, 359, 414, and 933)
Her mermaid form is an operational condition rather than a cosmetic transformation. She can convert ambient magic from the academy's ley line into Spirit Power through song, breathe and move underwater, transfer air to another person by kissing them, and draw on water for combat. Her full strength is available in water, while fighting on land in her two-legged mermaid battle form halves that strength. No chapter establishes that the later removal of the curse eliminates this environmental limitation. (Chapters 289–290 and 388–399)
Divided Spirit Core and Familia Oversoul
Ashe saves William by removing the blue gem that embodies half of her Spirit Core and implanting it in his chest. The sacrifice dims and weakens her, but it prevents his Sea of Consciousness from collapsing and makes ongoing Spirit-Power transfers possible. The two gems resonate like parts of one heart, letting Ashe sense William's condition and powerful emotions, locate or communicate with him across the Southern Continent, and later re-establish contact across otherwise restrictive spaces when the relevant laws permit it. The link can also transmit harmful overflow: a surge from William's distant battle leaves Ashe in severe pain and temporarily incapacitated. (Chapters 289–301, 354, 638, and 656)
As William's first Familia member, Ashe can perform Familia Oversoul, turning into Spirit Energy and merging into his body through the gem. They share perception and thoughts, Ashe guides his technique from within, and William gains access to her Wave Rider and Water Whip skills plus a System-recorded statistical enhancement whose strength varies with their Synchronization Rate. Early use is limited to three hours, an important constraint while William's spiritual world is damaged. The same bond also enables reciprocal class use, but the demonstrated mechanics belong to their shared Familia connection rather than to Ashe alone. (Chapters 301, 346, 359, 407, and 410)
Spirit Fencer, water arts, and Geomancer
Ashe's established main class is Spirit Fencer. Her signature weapon can shift between sword and whip-like configurations, and in true form she can shape its lash as water. Rain Cutter drives the water whip rapidly enough to leave deep wounds, while her ordinary whip-sword work can knock enemies back or hold them in place for an ally's finishing attack. Fighter is later integrated as a subclass, refining her handling of the weapon; Earth Mage follows so she can meet the requirements for Geomancer. (Chapters 155, 399, 407, and 421)
Geomancer draws its element from the current terrain rather than granting one fixed elemental set. The text establishes Earth Magic on ordinary land and empowered Water Magic in a swamp; there Ashe uses Mud Binding to make the terrain rise and immobilize enemies. William speculates about other environments, but those possibilities are not demonstrated and should not be treated as mastered techniques. Her latest exact class levels and post-resurrection access are not stated, although she is restored to life with her identity intact. (Chapters 421 and 525)
Kinship Evolution and Ragnar
The King Chess Piece's resonance gives Ashe Kinship Evolution through her Familia connection. She forms a pact with Ragnar, summons him, and temporarily evolves him from his ordinary form into Grand Cerberus, a three-headed Centennial-ranked beast wielding Fire, Wind, and Earth. Ashe rides him and combines those elements with her own Water, allowing coordinated multi-element attacks rather than merely using him as transportation. (Chapters 434, 491, and 528)
Kinship Evolution applies to only one chosen beast at a time, and its power remains active for that selected partner until the skill ends. Ashe demonstrates practiced coordination with Ragnar against powerful dungeon guardians, but the elemental abilities of Grand Cerberus originate from Ragnar's evolved form; they are not permanent spells belonging to Ashe. (Chapters 434, 528, and 758–765)
Other demonstrated competencies and divine status
- Ashe can mark a target through her anger and track that person while the emotion remains; she uses the ability to locate William during the Trial of Courage, but the text does not establish its range or later development. (Chapter 71)
- Training from childhood makes her a disciplined retainer, protective escort, and competent battlefield coordinator even before her Familia and subclass growth. (Chapters 64–71 and 211)
- Ashe is one of Astrid's core followers, and her soul retains a trace of the goddess's Divinity. The corpus establishes that divine quality and its value to Ahriman, but does not show Ashe activating a separate named Divinity technique. (Chapters 1075–1076)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cursed half-Nymph / Spirit Fencer | 64–155 | Astrid's curse seals her Nymph power in the male identity Ian, converting inaccessible Spiritual Power into Magic Power while she trains as a fencer. |
| Temporarily unsealed mermaid / divided Spirit Core | 289–301 | The Trial of Enlightenment permits a roughly three-hour true form, after which she gives half her Spirit Core to save William and is permanently weakened by the division. |
| First Familia member / Oversoul | 301–410 | Merges into William as Spirit Energy, shares perception and techniques, and grants water skills and attributes; early use is limited to three hours and depends on synchronization. |
| Fighter / Earth Mage / Geomancer classes | 407–528 | Gains the formal classes in a source-compressed training span; their individual acquisition chapters are not separately narrated. |
| Curse lifted and full personal form restored | 933 | Astrid permanently removes the bodily seal after William completes the required undertaking; water-dependent strength limits are not stated to vanish. |
| Death, soul preservation, and resurrection | 1075–1425 | Dies in Ahriman's Domain, persists in the Underworld, and is returned to her preserved body through William's recovery plan rather than self-revival. |
Relationships
- William: Their relationship grows from mutual provocation into trust after Ashe saves his life with half of her Spirit Core. She becomes his first Familia member, confidante, combat partner, and second wife, repeatedly choosing to share his danger rather than wait in safety. (Chapters 71, 289–301, 359, 1073–1078, and 1422)
- Est: Ashe is trained as Est's retainer and remains fiercely loyal to her even after joining William's Knight Order. She protects Est in battle and continues to treat her young master's safety as a personal obligation. (Chapters 64–71, 211, and 498–501)
- Isaac: Isaac is Ashe's twin and fellow retainer. They train and serve together under the same curse, and both ultimately regain their original female forms after Astrid releases them. (Chapters 64, 155, 301, 933, and 1464)
- Wendy: Wendy begins as Ashe's romantic rival, but the two become cooperative partners in William's recovery, dungeon training, and combat. Their shared refusal to be sidelined helps turn rivalry into a durable alliance within William's family. (Chapters 290–295, 399–434, and 758)
- Sidonie: Ashe initially guards William against Sidonie's charms, then comes to trust and support her. She serves as Sidonie's retainer in Kraetor, helps her control dangerous urges, fights beside her, and stays with her in the Underworld. (Chapters 354–359, 657, 713–787, and 1299–1305)
- Chiffon: Ashe helps care for Chiffon, accepts her marriage to William, trains and fights beside her, and supports her through painful family separations. Both die trying to reach William and later return together from the Underworld. (Chapters 527–554, 637–647, 944, 1073–1078, and 1410–1418)
- Ragnar: Ragnar initially dislikes Ian because he senses her hostility toward William, but reverses his judgment after Ashe's feelings and sacrifice become clear. He becomes her bonded beast companion for Kinship Evolution and a practiced combat partner. (Chapters 434, 491, and 528)
- Astrid: Ashe's Patron Goddess is responsible for the curse that seals her body and powers, later grants temporary access through the Trial of Enlightenment, and finally lifts the curse after recognizing William's accomplishment. Ashe remains one of Astrid's core followers. (Chapters 289–295, 933, and 1076)
Items
- Ashe's Whip Sword: Her signature Spirit Fencer weapon, used as both a blade and a flexible water-like whip for close and mid-range attacks. (Chapters 155, 399, 421, and 758)
- Windborne Boots: Ashe claims a pair from a Goblin Crypt treasure chest after previously surrendering another pair to Est. (Chapters 155 and 398)
- Ashe's Battle Regalia: Sea-blue armor worn in mermaid battle form; its material is not identified in the corpus. (Chapter 388)
- Lily's Lollipops: Consumable System items William supplies for combat; Ashe obeys his order to eat a chocolate lollipop before a dungeon battle. (Chapter 400)
