Rachel

Rachel Ruth is an AJ Entertainment singer preparing to release her first album. Her attempt to protect the other performers during Matthew's attack places the voice on which her career depends at immediate risk.

Biography

A rookie singer endangered inside AJ

Rachel joins AJ's rookie program after online covers and solo songs build an audience for her upcoming album. Unlike several colleagues, she treats Gary Dem respectfully and defends Slough when Tyson mocks it. When director Matthew traps the performers and demands sex, Rachel first tries to negotiate their release and then repeatedly screams for help as he attacks Spring. The strain leaves her throat sore and makes her fear losing her singing voice, but her calls help mark her refusal to remain silent until Gary breaks into the room and rescues them. (Chapters 615–617, 631–635)

Rachel receives hospital care and a mental-health evaluation with the other survivors. She later attends Gary's AFC debut with the AJ group, watching the brutal reality behind televised Altered fighting. The corpus does not state whether the attack affects her album or later career, but she remains alive. (Chapters 637, 668–669)

Appearance and personality

Rachel is in her late teens or early twenties and has short black hair. She is observant, comparatively courteous, and willing to defend someone else's home even before she knows Gary well. Under direct threat she is frightened and near tears, yet continues shouting for help despite knowing that vocal injury could damage her profession. (Chapters 615–617, 631, 634)

Powers and abilities

Rachel is not an Altered and demonstrates no supernatural or combat ability. She is a singer whose covers and original solo work have attracted an audience, and she is preparing for an idol debut and first album. Her voice is therefore both her principal skill and a physical vulnerability: screaming through the attack leaves it sore, with no special healing or protection shown. (Chapters 615, 634)
