Kon

Kon is a B-rank NIRV Retriever who commands a related five-person Strike Force built around a shared insect-type Altered solution. Their durability and near-instant coordination make the unit dangerous, but Kon's decision to summon Jayden as reinforcement ultimately brings about his own death.

Biography

Enforcing NIRV's claim over the Scavengers

Kon leads a five-person Retriever Strike Force whose members are related, share the same Altered solution, and have trained to operate as a single unit. At the Phantom Brawl he seizes Vere, threatens to kill her for interfering with NIRV's interests, and has a teammate strike Vivi when she tries to protect her sister [Ch. 746]. When Austin attacks, Kon discovers that the human is individually stronger than expected, so the team combines its strength and silent coordination to overwhelm him [Chs. 747–750]. Gary's arrival wounds the group and changes the balance. Rather than sacrifice relatives to complete the retrieval, Kon orders a withdrawal and requests S-rank support, revealing that loyalty to his team survives beneath his brutality as a NIRV operative [Chs. 752–753].

Cleaning up Nox and encountering Jayden

Kon subsequently executes Nox with a single blow to the head, orders other injured Altereds removed, and arranges for one of Nox's daughters to manage NIRV's factory contact [Ch. 754]. The cleanup brings him into conflict with the S-rank Retriever he summoned: once Jayden Tiger learns that Gary is involved, Jayden turns against NIRV and smashes Kon's head partway through a table with a clawed strike [Ch. 754]. The attack is fatal, ending Kon's attempt to restore organizational control with the very reinforcement he called for.

Appearance and personality

Kon has straight black hair parted to one side and wears black clothing, including a leather jacket that exposes his abdomen [Ch. 746]. In transformed combat his eyes become insect-like, two antennae emerge, his forearms enlarge beneath dark brown-black exoskeleton, and thin wings unfold [Ch. 747]. He is cold and willing to execute liabilities, but not indifferent to his relatives; preserving the Strike Force matters enough for him to abandon a mission and escalate through NIRV's chain of command.

Powers and abilities

Kon uses NIRV's insect-like, repeatedly compared to cockroaches, Altered solution. Partial transformation produces armored forearms, antennae, enhanced strength, high durability, rapid recovery, and wings for fast aerial movement [Chs. 747–750]. His antennae twitch as silent signals that the other four related users answer immediately, letting them switch targets, reinforce a grapple, or bait an opponent with exceptional timing. The source calls this a mind connection, but does not explain whether it is literal telepathy or a biological signaling system; its exact mechanism remains uncertain.

The solution's strongest results emerge from cooperation. Austin is physically stronger than Kon alone, while five synchronized users can batter and restrain him [Chs. 747–750]. The group can rise after severe impacts and boasts of cockroach-like survival, but that resilience is not invulnerability: Gary's claws draw serious wounds, Kon believes removal of the head or heart would be lethal, and Jayden's crushing head strike kills him [Chs. 752–754]. Flight and formation tactics improve his options, but losing the team advantage or facing an S-rank attacker bypasses them.

Relationships

  • Vere: Kon treats Vere as an obstacle to NIRV's business and threatens her life, helping force the sisters' break with Nox into the open [Ch. 746].
  • Nox: Kon initially protects NIRV's arrangement with Nox, then executes him once he becomes a liability and reorganizes the factory contact through his daughters [Chs. 746, 754].
  • Gary Dem: Gary's arrival wounds the Strike Force badly enough that Kon withdraws and summons stronger support [Chs. 752–753].
  • Jayden Tiger: Kon calls for an S-rank Retriever, only for Jayden's allegiance to Gary to turn that escalation into Kon's death [Ch. 754].
