Apollo
Apollo Zorian is a Grand King Polar Bear Altered who rises from the AFA's number-one student to a top-fifty AFC fighter, a reluctant Zodiac of the One Gang, and eventually a trusted Howlers combatant. His family history places him under Harvor's power even after professional success gives him public status. Apollo's central choice is therefore not whether he can win a fight, but whether he will risk everyone tied to him by refusing an order he knows is wrong.
Biography
The AFA's highest-ranked student
Apollo enters the story as the AFA facility's rank-one student: a huge, scarred teenager whose discipline and prior fighting experience distinguish him even among Altereds. He supports the top students' temporary no-fighting pact because constant challenges could prevent all of them from reaching the main academy, but he is willing to enforce it personally. Special lessons expose him to Jayden Tiger's superior technique, giving Apollo a fighter he respects rather than merely a rank to defend. (Chapters 374–440)
After admission, Apollo advances quickly into the AFC. He takes frequent bouts, sometimes sacrificing his purse to persuade opponents to fight, and reaches the top fifty before Xin Clove. He values the contest itself and keeps following Gary's and Jayden's careers, yet his success also makes him useful to the gang structure behind his family. By the time he meets Gary and Xin at Harvor's arena, he is publicly admired but privately a member of the One Gang. (Chapters 668 and 982–985)
Harvor's order and the choice to stop apologizing
Apollo's parents once led a gang that Harvor saved and absorbed, leaving their family and wider circle vulnerable if Apollo defected. As a One Gang Zodiac, Apollo helps confine a weakened Xin and is ordered to stop the rescue. He brings her food and speaks to her, but still defeats Austin while admitting that he wants to lose. His remorse does not undo his violence; it establishes that fear for his family has kept him enforcing an order he recognizes as wrong. (Chapters 1056–1101)
Austin's evolved form finally overwhelms Apollo, only for Apollo's delayed recovery trait to restore him. Given another chance to block the escape, Apollo instead attacks the One Gang members and tells the rescuers to move. He accepts that Harvor may retaliate against everyone in his life and decides he no longer wants apology to substitute for action. After Harvor's defeat, Apollo joins the Howlers and is entrusted with former One Gang territory because his strength and knowledge can discourage an immediate takeover. Gary accepts his defection without pretending the earlier choice was harmless. (Chapters 1102–1104 and 1132–1140)
Training with Ice and facing Unzoku
Apollo becomes one of the Howlers' heaviest combatants and develops a competitive partnership with Ice. Their sparring is destructive and argumentative, but Kai forces them to refine coordination and elemental use. When Unzoku attacks, Apollo refuses to leave Kai behind, charges an enemy far beyond his level, and is impaled and thrown into the forest. He survives but cannot prevent Kai's forced Alpha transformation, giving the Howlers direct evidence that brute strength alone cannot solve the ancient threat. (Chapters 1357–1375)
Apollo and Ice respond by deliberately fusing their techniques. During Lupus's invasion they dominate ordinary wolves around the lake, then choose to leave that advantage and engage the Alpha. Their ice, lightning, strength, and teamwork briefly restrain him, but Lupus's techniques and durability break through. When Ice orders Apollo to find help, Apollo leaves because returning would waste Ice's sacrifice; after discovering Ice dead, he continues fighting through grief and exhaustion rather than abandoning the wider defense. (Chapters 1432–1485)
The final defense and later peace
Already injured and without his recovery trait, Apollo volunteers to help Innu hold the Iron-masked werewolf. The opponent's speed and trained claw work counter Apollo's grappling, but Apollo repeatedly re-enters the fight, buys Innu time to restore energy, and later throws the wolf away when Innu is pinned. He survives the battle and helps the Howlers evaluate the continued threat from Unzoku while their Alphas are missing. (Chapters 1494–1517)
Apollo remains alive through the final conflict. The corpus does not assign him another decisive duel during the Glutton crisis, but he appears among Gary's close allies at Gary and Xin's wedding two years later. His resulting status is that of a living Howlers member with the territorial responsibility Kai previously entrusted to him, no longer bound to Harvor's One Gang. (Chapter 1847)
Appearance and personality
Apollo is exceptionally tall and broad, with a chest larger than those of the other AFA candidates. He has very pale skin, scars across his knuckles and chin, and the bearing of someone who fought before becoming an Altered. His full form covers him in white fur and expands his arms and legs to several times their human thickness, producing a hulking polar-bear body with huge paws. (Chapters 374 and 1098)
He is disciplined, competitive, and drawn to strong opponents. That love of fighting can appear blunt or aggressive, especially in his rivalry with Ice, but Apollo is also observant enough to recognize technique and honest enough to concede Austin's eventual victory. His moral weakness is prolonged compliance with Harvor out of fear for his family; his development lies in accepting that remorse without refusal changes nothing. Later, the same loyalty that once trapped him under an abusive hierarchy becomes a willingness to take punishment for the Howlers and protect partners who cannot win alone. (Chapters 983–985, 1100–1104, 1370–1375, and 1432–1504)
Powers and abilities
Grand King Polar Bear transformation
Apollo's Altered form is based on a Grand King Polar Bear. Partial transformation enlarges his hands into paws, while a full change covers him in white fur and massively increases his frame. The form specializes in strength, weight, durability, and grappling: Apollo can lift multi-ton restraints, catch Ice's giant club, throw other large Altereds, and repeatedly slam Austin hard enough to break a warehouse floor. His AFA and AFC training lets him turn that mass into locks, throws, and controlled momentum rather than relying only on wild punches. (Chapters 1096–1102 and 1370–1372)
His size takes time to accelerate and can be exploited by faster technical opponents. Austin's evolved speed and terrain control overwhelm him, Lupus's tether and close-range power break his defense, and the Iron-masked wolf repeatedly evades his grips and cuts him. His hide and muscle prevent some wounds from becoming immediately fatal, but claws can pierce him and cumulative damage leaves him barely mobile. Transformations also consume finite energy and end once he is exhausted. (Chapters 1102–1104, 1433–1442, and 1494–1504)
Ice and lightning
Apollo can channel elemental energy through his paws. Rubbing or charging his hands produces a glow that he releases as force or cold, including blasts, ice balls, freezing restraints, and ground attacks that spread ice outward. Continued training with Ice strengthens this side of his power and lets them use existing water efficiently, combine waves with freezing, and build larger attacks without each bearing the full cost alone. (Chapters 1102, 1132, and 1370–1434)
Apollo also possesses lightning. He commonly uses it to stun or disorient a target before applying his strength, and he can charge it into punches or combine it with ice in an area strike. Lupus is resistant enough that the stun only creates a brief opening, and Apollo's elemental output is explicitly weaker than Ice's. Repeated large attacks drain him quickly, especially when he must generate or control the battlefield rather than exploit nearby water. (Chapters 1372–1373 and 1432–1442)
Delayed recovery trait
Apollo's polar-bear form has a special recovery trait that can close severe wounds and restore him after apparent defeat, surrounding him with a blue glow. Activation is delayed on an uncertain timer, so an opponent can finish him before it begins. It also functions as a single second chance within the relevant battle rather than continuous regeneration: after using it against Lupus, Apollo explicitly cannot trigger it again when fighting the Iron-masked wolf. The trait therefore rewards survival long enough for activation but does not make him immortal. (Chapters 1103–1104, 1436, and 1494–1504)
Relationships
- Austin: Apollo first defeats Austin while enforcing Harvor's order, then loses when Austin evolves. He concedes the rematch and turns on the One Gang, making their fight the immediate catalyst for his defection. (Chapters 1097–1104)
- Xin Clove: Apollo guards Xin during her captivity and shows private concern without initially freeing her. Her trust after he changes sides helps the rescuers accept his defection, while his later Howlers service gives action to the apology he could not justify before. (Chapters 1056–1104)
- Ice: Rival, sparring partner, and elemental teammate. Their competition becomes coordinated technique against Unzoku and Lupus; Ice's death leaves Apollo carrying both guilt and the obligation to continue the defense. (Chapters 1132, 1357–1442, and 1485)
- Gary Dem: Apollo respects Gary as a former AFA peer whose ambitions moved beyond the AFC. Gary later accepts him into the Howlers' structure and entrusts him with the consequences of leaving the One Gang. (Chapters 374–440, 982–985, and 1140)
- Daphne Bree: Apollo appears beside Daphne at the Howlers celebration, where she helps discuss his new territorial responsibility. The corpus suggests familiarity but does not define a formal romantic relationship. (Chapter 1140)
- Harvor: Harvor's absorption of Apollo's family gang makes obedience a threat-backed obligation. Apollo ultimately rejects that structure during Xin's rescue, accepting the risk to his status and family network. (Chapters 985, 1056–1104)
Items
Apollo has no finalized configured inventory item. His combat abilities come from his Altered body and elemental traits rather than a named personal weapon.
