Magnus Muscat

Magnus Muscat is the original sixth-family leader who became the second official vampire king after Richard Eno. His old commitment to ruling humans leaves him hostile to the Punisher legacy represented by Quinn, while his later devotion to Immortui turns that political opposition into an attempt to open a passage between worlds. Magnus combines an ability that fixes lasting traps into prepared locations with blood aura and power borrowed from Immortui. (Chapters 2059, 2069, 2304, and 2333–2354)

Biography

A former king returns to the sixth family

After Richard Eno enters slumber and the Punishers rise, Magnus is selected as the vampires' second official king. His effort to rule over humans helps trigger a civil war, establishing the convictions that survive his later slumber. When the originals awaken in the modern settlement, Magnus again leads the sixth family; Edvard warns Quinn that Magnus will oppose him regardless of the truth because Quinn's shadow identifies him with the Punishers. (Chapters 2059 and 2062–2063)

Magnus treats rank as entitlement. He scouts Jared as a promising disciple, but when Quinn refuses to let the original leaders claim Minny, Magnus demands that the family either comply or leave the settlement. He later attacks Quinn alongside the other originals and discovers that even green blood and his own sharpened aura cannot overcome Quinn's blood control. These defeats sharpen an opposition that already rests on incompatible ideas of kingship and power. (Chapters 2064–2072 and 2095)

Preparing Immortui's return

In private, Magnus maintains a hidden shrine to Immortui beneath the sixth castle. Permanent circles made through his own ability guard the route, and he prays to the winged, one-eyed statue for instructions. He also marks Jared to communicate at a distance, while warning the student to protect the Talen family if Magnus returns behaving unlike himself; the warning shows that even Magnus recognises a risk in the force he serves. (Chapters 2069 and 2104)

During the war against the Amra alliance, Magnus follows the settlement's campaign and attacks Geo with tracking rings of blood aura. Once Quinn invokes the Punisher's Convent, Edvard, Hikel, and their allies turn against the originals still supporting the invasion. Magnus refuses to stand down, then disappears after the war rather than surrender or return to slumber, convincing the other originals that their former king is preparing another conflict. (Chapters 2213–2214, 2254, and 2304)

Using Jessica to open the passage

Magnus infiltrates Earth and uses marked Vampire Corps members to pursue Jessica, whose accumulated dhampir energy can power a portal. He defeats Andy after transforming and injecting him with a debilitating substance, then takes Jessica as leverage and as the energy source for the ritual. Magnus's own rare capacity to draw the required magic circles makes him indispensable to Immortui's plan, although the facility is designed to keep operating even if Magnus is killed. (Chapters 2319, 2331–2339, 2346, and 2355)

Edvard and Hikel confront Magnus while Andy deals with the controlled Corps members. Magnus restrains both originals in an enlarged trap and injects the same destructive fluid into them, but high-grade green blood counters its effects long enough for them to damage his transformed arms. Andy then joins the fight and cleaves Magnus through with an enlarged arm and greatsword. Magnus's body disintegrates without leaving a blood crystal, confirming that Immortui's transformation had taken him beyond an ordinary vampire by the time of death. (Chapters 2352–2355)

Appearance and personality

Magnus is the palest of the originals, with a receding hairline that leaves his long black hair in a pronounced V shape. He favours dark green clothing rather than the black common among vampires. Proud and hierarchical, he interprets refusal as disrespect and repeatedly insists that his status as an original entitles him to obedience. He is nevertheless methodical: his strength is greatest when he has time to prepare traps, and his portal operation is constructed to continue without him. (Chapters 2063, 2069–2070, 2333, and 2355)

When drawing heavily on Immortui, Magnus grows to roughly eight feet. A hard, skull-like casing covers the upper half of his face, his skin darkens, and both arms become extendable segmented limbs ending in pincers. The form reflects his certainty that Immortui's other creations and promised new order are superior to vampires, even as his former peers regard the change as the loss of his vampire identity. (Chapters 2337 and 2353–2355)

Powers and abilities

Trap ability

Magnus creates circles that immobilise those caught within them. Once placed, a trap can remain permanently, making defended sites especially dangerous when he has prepared them in advance; the circles guarding his shrine recognise their creator and do not activate against him. He can form traps with parts of his body other than his hands, and Immortui's enhancement lets him expand a single circle far enough to catch Edvard and Hikel together. The ability is strongest with preparation and positioning rather than as an unavoidable direct attack. (Chapters 2069 and 2353)

Magnus's related knowledge extends to magic circles that direct energy between planes. The corpus distinguishes this aptitude from simple copying: only certain people can draw a functioning circle, and Magnus is valuable to Immortui precisely because he can construct the portal ritual. The facility's runes still require Jessica's energy and a location where the planes are comparatively close, so his diagrams are one component of the passage rather than an independent ability to cross worlds. (Chapters 2333 and 2355–2356)

Blood aura and original-vampire combat

As an original, Magnus has great speed, strength, healing, claws, and blood-aura control. He can sharpen aura around his body, make a blood claw, fire blood cannons, and launch rings that pursue their targets. His attacks can threaten other high-level vampires, but Quinn suppresses him with aura alone, an owl-like demon-tier beast breaks his tracking rings, and his healing and endurance remain vulnerable to coordinated damage. (Chapters 2095, 2214, 2336, and 2353–2354)

Immortui's mark and transformed body

Magnus's dedicated-follower mark channels borrowed power, reinforcing his aura and enabling a non-vampire transformation. In that form his segmented arms extend and change direction, their pincers deliver a green liquid that destroys or disables cells, and his mouth can exhale a cloud that burns the eyes. The liquid incapacitates Andy and prevents Hikel's ordinary healing, but Andy's Colossal Draugr body eventually resists it and high-grade green blood counters it. Magnus also heals explosive damage unusually quickly, though the hard casing on his arms can be blasted away and Andy's enhanced sword strike proves fatal. (Chapters 2336–2339 and 2353–2355)

Relationships

  • Immortui: Magnus worships Immortui, accepts his mark and borrowed form, and builds the ritual intended to bring him into the human universe. Immortui treats him as a necessary follower and a means of buying time, not as an equal. (Chapters 2069, 2333, 2354, and 2359)
  • Quinn: Magnus's former kingship and anti-Punisher convictions place him against Quinn before they meet openly. Quinn overwhelms him during the originals' confrontation, and Magnus later continues Immortui's plan while Quinn works to close the resulting portal. (Chapters 2059, 2070, 2095, and 2353–2356)
  • Edvard and Hikel: The fellow originals remember Magnus's earlier war and accept responsibility for stopping him. They survive his traps and poison, damage his transformed body, and create the opening for Andy's finishing blow. (Chapters 2304, 2320, and 2353–2355)
  • Andy: Andy intervenes to protect Jessica and the Vampire Corps. Magnus initially defeats and poisons him, but Andy recovers, returns with the originals, and kills Magnus with his greatsword. (Chapters 2336–2339 and 2354–2355)
  • Jessica: Magnus needs Jessica alive as the energy source for the portal, so he abducts and guards her rather than killing her. Her captivity drives both Andy's intervention and the rescue operation that ends Magnus's life. (Chapters 2333–2355)
