Edvard

Edvard Fortuna is the creator of the ninth vampire family and one of the revived Originals. Initially responsible for a remote vampire settlement, he becomes an ally of Quinn and joins the campaign against Immortui's demon kings. His ancient red armor restores enough of his former combat power to help defeat Bisha, but after vampires revert to humans, the same armor is the only thing explicitly keeping him alive. Biography

Protecting the ninth-family settlement

Edvard reawakens as the ninth Original and leads a settlement facing increasingly dangerous beast hunts. He responds as an accessible field leader rather than remaining removed from the problem: he briefs his people, joins Muka outside the settlement, and helps contain the damage when a beast wave strikes. His concern extends to individual residents such as Ronkin, whose injuries and unusual conduct he follows rather than dismissing as a subordinate's problem. (Chapters 1998–2001, 2026–2027, 2046–2049, and 2067–2069)

When Quinn needs to enter the Punisher Convent, Edvard participates in a staged confrontation that lets Quinn appear to attack an Original. He accepts a controlled hit but is still injured by a force he cannot perceive, forcing the plan to balance credibility against real risk. The cooperation turns Edvard from an isolated family founder into a practical ally willing to use his reputation and body to address the threat around them. (Chapters 2059 and 2092–2097)

Reckoning with the Originals' failures

After Jim revives and manipulates the Originals, Edvard helps investigate Magnus's disappearance and insists on joining the mission to Earth. Curiosity about the planet's transformation motivates him, but so does responsibility: as an Original, he believes he should help bring Magnus in rather than leave the consequences to younger vampires. His delight in modern technology provides relief, yet the mission confronts him with how much the old leadership failed to understand. (Chapters 2223, 2304–2321)

Edvard eventually admits that he regrets the ancient vampire–werewolf war and fears the factions were manipulated by Immortui. Ronkin and Jeouk's willingness to act despite weakness challenges his belief that he can contribute nothing beside the stronger champions. He therefore retrieves the dark red armor he once wore against werewolves, accepting the danger of returning to a power associated with that failed era so that his experience can serve a different purpose. (Chapters 2330 and 2357–2361)

The armor and the demon kings

In the demon world, Edvard uses judgment as often as force: he restrains Peter from announcing the group with a mountain-breaking attack and later works with Chris against Bisha. When the Yak king drops a ship on them, Edvard lets Chris bear its weight while the armor charges, then punches a passage through the vessel. Combining its amplification with his explosive blood-punch technique lets him break Bisha's projectiles and contribute to the attack that destroys the demon king's heart. The impacts still injure him, and accumulated damage eventually leaves him unable to join the last confrontation directly. (Chapters 2418, 2463, 2485–2488, and 2520)

Immortui's defeat removes vampire nature from the Originals. Edvard becomes human, but unlike the others he cannot safely separate from the armor: he senses that removing it would be “the end” of him, while its power preserves his present state. This is the last explicit evidence about him. It confirms survival at that moment, not recovery, independence from the armor, or a later death. (Chapter 2541)

Appearance and personality

Edvard is introduced wearing sunglasses, which he lifts while formally giving his full name. He is curious, conversational, and amused by modern machines, making him one of the more approachable Originals, but he takes settlement leadership and the failings of his generation seriously. In battle he wears a full dark red set of armor that pulsates before releasing power. His humor persists under pressure, though regret and physical weakness increasingly temper it. (Chapters 1998, 2027, 2321, 2360–2361, and 2485–2486)

Powers and abilities

Original-vampire physiology

As an Original, Edvard possesses the strength, durability, senses, and blood powers of an ancient vampire. He can handle high-tier Dalki blood for temporary reinforcement and survive impacts that would kill ordinary fighters, but he is not physically superior in every category: Chris can support the crushing weight of Bisha's ship where Edvard cannot, and repeated demon-king blows damage him despite the armor. His vampire physiology and blood powers disappear when Immortui's defeat returns the vampires to humanity. (Chapters 2330, 2485–2486, 2520, and 2541)

Vampire martial arts and explosive blood punches

Edvard is an experienced close-range fighter whose methods became part of later vampire martial arts. He mixes blood aura into a punch and detonates it on impact like a concentrated blast, breaking large projectiles rather than relying on lifting strength. The technique benefits from timing and armor amplification, but it must connect and does not make him immune to counterattacks; Bisha catches his rhythm and strikes him away. Once Edvard becomes human, the corpus indicates that vampire blood control is gone. (Chapters 2485–2486 and 2541)

Ancient dark red armor

The armor is an old weapon Edvard previously used in the vampire–werewolf war, when it made him stronger than other Originals. It pulsates through the full suit before amplifying explosive movement and punches, allowing him to tear through a demon ship and combine its output with his blood aura. The equipment does not grant unlimited static strength, requires practiced integration with the wearer's own techniques, and transmits enough force for Edvard to feel heavy impacts. By his final scene it also sustains his life after his vampire body becomes human, making removal fatal according to Edvard's own assessment. (Chapters 2360–2361, 2485–2486, and 2541)

Leadership and operational experience

Edvard directs settlement responses, evaluates political risks, pilots modern spacecraft after instruction, and mediates among more impulsive fighters. These skills make him useful when his raw strength is insufficient, but they do not give him complete knowledge: he misjudges some modern powers and openly relies on allies with more relevant firsthand information. (Chapters 2027–2048, 2094–2095, 2320–2328, 2463–2464)

Relationships

  • Quinn: Edvard first cooperates with Quinn to protect the settlement and enable entry into the Punisher Convent. He later joins Quinn's wider mission and risks using the old armor because he no longer wants greater strength to excuse inaction. (Chapters 2092–2097, 2320–2361, and 2524)
  • Hikel: The two Originals investigate their changed society and campaign together. Edvard relies on Hikel's firsthand reports, while their final exchange reveals their separate costs: Hikel has lost his arms and Edvard cannot remove his armor. (Chapters 2304–2330, 2464, 2520, and 2541)
  • Chris: Chris and Edvard form a complementary pair against Bisha. Chris supplies superior sustained strength, while Edvard uses charged, explosive blows to open the ship and shatter targets before they jointly bring down the Yak king. (Chapters 2485–2488)
  • Ronkin: Ronkin's persistence as a comparatively weak resident influences Edvard's decision to stop standing aside. Edvard's attention to his injuries also shows the personal responsibility beneath his casual manner. (Chapters 2067–2069 and 2360)

Items

  • Ancient dark red armor: A full suit recovered from the Originals' armory. It amplifies Edvard's practiced strikes and, after his reversion to humanity, is explicitly the only thing maintaining his final known state; it is not identified as a generated item in the manifest. (Chapters 2360–2361, 2485–2486, and 2541)
