Andy Sanguinis

Andy Sanguinis is the son of Fex and Samantha and the later commander of the Vampire Corps. He balances the Corps' defensive mission against political pressure from humans, vampires, and dhampirs, then commits himself more directly to Quinn's side when Immortui's followers threaten his people. The earlier traveller named Andy and the Board servant named Andy are separate characters; this article covers Andy Sanguinis alone. (Chapters 259–272, 1432–1444, 1634, and 1652)

Biography

Inheriting the Vampire Corps

Andy grows up hearing his parents' stories about the Cursed faction while the Vampire Corps develops from their work. His Draugr mother Samantha intends to die alongside her ageing husband, but dhampirs kill her first; Fex devotes his remaining active years to revenge, eventually yields command to Andy, and enters eternal slumber. Andy consequently inherits both a military institution and two promises—to pursue Samantha's killer and to wake Fex if Quinn returns. When Quinn does appear, Andy uses his shared bloodline to open Fex's chamber and fulfils the second promise despite warning that an impostor would face consequences. (Chapters 1634, 1648, and 1652)

As commander, Andy prefers calm assessment to reflexive hostility. He accepts Nate's group after recognising Zinon's armour as evidence of trust, seeks Jessica without ordering that she be harmed, and explains that her situation touches human politics as well as Corps authority. His restraint has limits: he will not expose the Corps to a conflict whose participants and loyalties he cannot verify. That caution later lets him transport Quinn while formally keeping the Corps outside Quinn's unsanctioned plans. (Chapters 1648–1650 and 1656)

Compromise with the Dhampirs

Andy tries to preserve the Corps by accepting a non-aggression arrangement with the dhampirs: Corps bases sheltering red vampires will not be attacked, while the Corps will avoid interfering in the dhampirs' campaign and provide aid when required. The agreement follows the Corps' doctrine of defending people rather than initiating attacks, but it also exposes how much its leader is willing to concede. Andy supports a proposed marriage involving Jessica because it could secure military aid, whereas Quinn sees the arrangement as another authority deciding her life. Their disagreement leaves Andy respectful of Quinn but responsible for a political system Quinn no longer accepts. (Chapters 1655–1656)

When the wider vampire population needs to mobilise, Andy broadcasts the call across dispersed bases. He later helps Quinn locate and wake Fex again, but cannot simply abandon his own post to join every mission; both men understand that commanding a large organisation constrains personal action. Andy's nervousness while Quinn changes Fex into a follower shows the tension between trust in the hero his parents revered and fear for his father, yet he chooses not to interfere. (Chapters 1752, 1895–1899, and 1927–1939)

Protecting the Corps from Immortui's Followers

After Magnus infiltrates the Vampire Corps, Andy secretly operates as Chief Dzai so that he can keep field experience without turning every assignment into a command event. He restricts himself in that identity to a greatsword, blood aura, and beast-weapon technique, but drops the disguise when Jessica is targeted. His decision is personal as well as official: Quinn helped Fex find peace, and Andy refuses to stand aside while marked vampires use the organisation his parents created. Against Magnus, Andy uses long-range string-guided sword attacks to protect Jessica and avoid the traps of close combat, but Magnus's transformed body injects a poison that overwhelms him and permits Jessica's capture. (Chapters 2331–2339)

Andy recovers because his Colossal Draugr body resists the poison and Dalki blood restores his severed arms. Although embarrassed that his intervention disrupted a plan he did not know, he accepts Quinn's assurance that he acted reasonably with the information available. During the ensuing operation, Andy attempts to subdue possessed Corps vampires rather than kill them, using the blunt edge of his sword and string restraints; when Barbra continues helping Magnus and endangers Jessica, he kills her despite knowing Jessica will grieve. He then takes Jessica under his protection so she cannot be used again. (Chapters 2339, 2352, and 2358)

The Last Battle and Return to Humanity

Andy continues to act as a protector during the final crisis, restraining Xox after the latter attacks children and later escorting Minny and the other children back to the battlefield's survivors. When Immortui is defeated, vampires and vampire subclasses lose their altered physiology and abilities; as a Draugr subclass, Andy is included in that return to humanity. The corpus confirms the universal transformation but does not isolate Andy's reaction or later occupation. (Chapters 2451 and 2540–2541)

Appearance and personality

Andy has long white hair swept back into a ponytail, a defined face, and notably muscular arms. As commander he wears the black-and-red colours of the Vampire Corps and conceals a black-and-red demon-tier chest piece beneath an overcoat when anonymity matters. He is relaxed enough to joke and eat during tense meetings, but the ease is paired with careful institutional judgment, knowledge of vampire leadership, and fierce loyalty to his parents' legacy. Loss makes him protective rather than indiscriminately vengeful: even in battle he tries to spare controlled Corps members and rejects trading Jessica's life for the return of someone he loves. (Chapters 1634, 1648, 1652, 2339, and 2352)

Powers and abilities

Colossal Draugr physiology

Andy is born a Draugr and evolves beyond Samantha's Great Draugr form into a Colossal Draugr, a classification he does not know until Quinn identifies it. The subclass grants immense physical strength, blood-aura use, strong healing, and the ability to change size. Unlike a Great Draugr, Andy can enlarge individual body parts rather than committing his whole body to a larger and easier-to-hit form; he enlarges one arm to multiply the force of a sword strike against Magnus. His recovery is not unconditional: ordinary human blood does not regrow lost limbs, human flesh normally does, and Dalki blood is shown to substitute after Magnus severs his arms. His physiology can resist an unusually aggressive poison, but the toxin still incapacitates him before recovery. (Chapters 1652, 1655, and 2336–2339)

Sanguinis string ability

Andy inherits the thirteenth family's string ability. The strings can bind and reposition targets, guide weapons, and restrain even a vampire lord such as Yaddy. Their natural tensile strength scales with the user's own physical power, while infusing them with blood aura hardens them further; Andy's Colossal Draugr strength therefore makes his strings exceptional even before reinforcement. He uses precise bindings to build a pile of incapacitated vampires and repeatedly replaces strings as Barbra's aura burns through them, showing both their control utility and their vulnerability to sufficiently strong attacks. (Chapters 1655, 2336–2337, and 2352)

Blood aura, soul weapon, and swordsmanship

Andy can harden and project blood aura through a greatsword. A soul-weapon technique taught by Fex lets him transmit that aura along his strings, preserving a sword strike's power while he attacks from outside Magnus's trap range. He spins the tethered blade quickly enough to form a defensive screen that cuts apart blood cannons, then redirects it from multiple angles. The style combines reach, momentum, and protection rather than making him untouchable: Magnus blocks the assault with borrowed power, and Andy's decision to close distance for a finishing blow exposes him to poison. (Chapters 2336–2337)

Andy is also an accomplished close-range fighter with fast reflexes and greatsword training. As Dzai he deliberately suppresses his natural subclass techniques to maintain and improve conventional weapon skill. In the Corps battle he breaks limbs, knocks out vampires with the sword's blunt edge, and uses strings after each takedown; holding back makes the mass engagement harder, and a moment of excess force kills one opponent he intended to spare. (Chapters 2334, 2336, and 2352)

Loss of supernatural powers

Immortui's defeat reverses vampire transformations and subclasses. Those affected lose their existing altered powers and MC-cell abilities, although they can learn human abilities again. The corpus applies this change to all subclasses, making Andy human at the end, but does not establish whether he later relearns the string ability or retains any exceptional combat capacity. (Chapters 2540–2541)

Relationships

  • Fex: Andy reveres his father while recognising the damage Samantha's death caused him. He succeeds Fex as commander, preserves his slumber, wakes him to meet Quinn, and later accepts Quinn's attempt to give Fex renewed purpose. (Chapters 1652, 1927–1939, and 2336)
  • Samantha: Samantha's love for Fex and murder by dhampirs define Andy's family history. He shares her Draugr nature but evolves beyond her known form, and he cites her death when rejecting the idea that another person's life may be sacrificed to restore a loved one. (Chapters 1652, 1655, and 2352)
  • Quinn: Andy grows up on stories of Quinn, initially tests whether the returned hero is genuine, and later risks his life because Quinn helped Fex find peace. Their respect survives disagreements over Corps compromise and Jessica's autonomy. (Chapters 1648–1656, 1895–1939, and 2336–2339)
  • Jessica: Andy first treats Jessica as a political responsibility, then increasingly as a person whose life must be protected. He fights Magnus for her, kills Barbra when negotiation fails, and keeps Jessica close afterwards to prevent another abduction. (Chapters 1648–1656 and 2331–2358)
