Hikel

Hikel Talon is the fourth vampire Original and leader associated with the fourth family. He moves from defending vampire society within its inherited hierarchy to rejecting that hierarchy's assumptions and volunteering for a dangerous reconstruction of absolute blood control. Hikel survives the demon war, but loses both arms and then loses all vampire powers when Immortui's defeat returns him to humanity. (Chapters 2001, 2072, 2212, 2360–2361, 2498, and 2541)

Biography

Responsibility as a returned Original

Hikel re-enters the world as an Original expected to carry institutional authority. Quinn selects him to oversee the fifth family on the condition that Minny not be taught its ability, placing trust in Hikel's judgment rather than merely his age. During later crises, Hikel orders fighters forward to prevent further deaths and supports collective action against beast attacks instead of treating weaker allies as beneath an Original. His leadership begins within the old family structure but increasingly values practical protection over rank. (Chapters 2001, 2072, 2211–2212, and 2252–2254)

Jim's manipulation of vampire history forces Hikel to question what the Originals remember. He investigates the altered record around the red heart and joins the effort to find Magnus, arguing that bringing another Original in is their own responsibility. The mission turns inherited prestige into accountability: Hikel cannot rely on ancient status when ancient decisions and memories may themselves be compromised. (Chapters 2304–2309 and 2320–2330)

Choosing reconstructed blood power

Believing the old hierarchy was wrong and wanting enough strength to help Quinn, Hikel asks Vincent to reconstruct absolute blood control from incomplete knowledge and substitute methods. He accepts the danger knowingly rather than presenting the procedure as a safe recovery of a lost technique. The result adds powerful control over blood but produces painful red markings and a large pulsating facial scar, visible costs that intensify when he exerts the power. (Chapters 2357–2361)

Against the demon king Unzoku, Hikel uses that reconstructed control to resist red energy and apply techniques preserved in Richard Eno's records. Pride initially keeps him from calling for help even as the markings sting and the fight worsens; serious injury finally requires Sil's healing. The episode shows both why Hikel sought greater power and why accepting risk does not eliminate its consequences. (Chapters 2405–2407 and 2413–2417)

Fighting by choice and paying the cost

Hikel continues into the demon campaign despite accumulating injuries. He joins Chris in intercepting destructive energy, then works with Peter and Russ against Luce, using explosive blood attacks to force the demon king's white paths into defensive patterns. When Quinn questions why damaged allies followed him, Hikel refuses to be treated as someone needing permission or protection: they have lived long lives and chosen to share the danger. That decision helps secure demon-king blood for the final effort but costs Hikel both arms. (Chapters 2480, 2486, 2491–2498, and 2520)

After Immortui falls, Hikel's vampire body becomes human. His wounds heal, but human restoration cannot regenerate the arms he lost, and the vampire blood powers he used in battle disappear. His last explicit scene leaves him alive and considering a permanently armless life, not restored by a later unshown cure. (Chapter 2541)

Appearance and personality

Hikel carries the authority of an ancient family leader but is increasingly direct about the failures of that class. Reconstructed absolute blood control leaves a large red pulsating scar across his face and glowing markings over his face and arms; they sting under strain and visibly record the power's cost. He can be proud enough to delay asking for help, yet he rejects condescension and insists on personal responsibility for his choices. By his final appearance he is human and has no arms. (Chapters 2308, 2360–2361, 2406–2407, 2498, and 2541)

Powers and abilities

Original-vampire physiology and blood aura

As the fourth Original, Hikel possesses an ancient vampire's strength, durability, healing, senses, and control of blood aura. High-tier Dalki blood can provide a temporary strength increase, and his endurance lets him keep operating after severe wounds, but demon kings and their powers can still injure him beyond regeneration during battle. All innate vampire traits and blood control disappear when he reverts to human. (Chapters 2095, 2330, 2405–2417, 2520, and 2541)

Explosive blood

Hikel's native combat specialty is explosive blood. He projects blood aura or droplets and detonates them, using the blasts offensively and to intercept other energy. Against Luce, repeated explosions cannot directly overpower the white power but do force it to form blocking lines, creating openings for allies. The technique therefore has tactical value even when its damage is negated, though it consumes a resource and depends on Hikel retaining vampire blood power. (Chapters 2360–2361, 2480, and 2486)

Reconstructed absolute blood control

Vincent reconstructs absolute blood control for Hikel using partial records and substitutes rather than the original complete process. It permits finer manipulation, including blood whips, barriers, and older king techniques learned from Richard Eno's records. It also produces painful glowing markings and a facial scar, and heavy use does not protect Hikel from exhaustion or injury. Because the reconstruction is experimental, the corpus does not establish that it equals the original technique in every respect. (Chapters 2360–2361 and 2405–2417)

Combat experience and command

Hikel coordinates groups, reads unfamiliar threats, and changes tactics when raw attacks fail. He can combine his blood strikes with allies' powers and recognises when a mission's objective is blood collection rather than victory for its own sake. Pride is a recurring limitation: he initially delays a distress signal against Unzoku, while his later insistence on autonomy leads him to continue fighting despite severe damage. (Chapters 2211–2212, 2406–2417, 2480–2498)

Final human state

Immortui's defeat returns Hikel to the human condition he had when first transformed and removes his blood powers. His body closes its wounds but does not regrow his arms. Humans can theoretically learn abilities anew, yet the corpus does not show Hikel acquiring one or receiving prosthetics before his last appearance. (Chapter 2541)

Relationships

  • Quinn: Hikel accepts Quinn's conditions for fifth-family oversight and later seeks dangerous power specifically so he can contribute to Quinn's battles. His refusal to be “babysat” is not rejection of Quinn, but insistence on sharing responsibility by choice. (Chapters 2072, 2360–2361, and 2498)
  • Vincent: Hikel asks Vincent to reconstruct absolute blood control and knowingly accepts an incomplete, risky process. Vincent supplies technical knowledge; Hikel bears the resulting scars and combat consequences. (Chapters 2360–2361)
  • Edvard: Hikel and Edvard act as fellow Originals confronting the damage of their era. They investigate, travel, and fight together, then face different permanent consequences after becoming human. (Chapters 2304–2330, 2464, 2520, and 2541)
  • Peter and Russ: Hikel tempers the pair's conflicts and later fights beside them against Luce. Their combination of explosive blood, copying, and direct force secures the needed blood at substantial cost. (Chapters 2417, 2486, and 2491–2498)

Items

  • Dalki-blood flasks: Hikel carries high-tier Dalki blood for temporary reinforcement during operations; these supplies are consumable and are not identified as generated unique items. (Chapters 2095 and 2330)
