Ghost Fetus

The Ghost Fetus is the supernatural being that grows from Chen Ge’s separated childhood shadow and ultimately becomes a Demon God. Its history is expressed through several related but non-identical forms: the detached Shadow active in Li Wan City, the rag-doll body that preserves its past, the host Xiang Nuan, and the completed entity directing the final rebirth. Xiang Nuan is a living child whose life and consciousness become entangled with the Ghost Fetus; he is not simply another name for it.

Biography

A shadow made to bear pain

The being begins as Chen Ge’s shadow, absorbing curses, resentment, and suffering that the child himself does not remember carrying. The Shadow later tells Chen that it initially had no wish to harm anyone, even while it repeatedly experienced suffocation, dismemberment, burial, and deaths meant for someone else. Once it hears a voice from behind the Haunted House door answering to Chen Ge’s name, resentment turns into the desire to reverse their places: it wants the human life in sunlight and intends to make Chen into the shadow that suffers. After leaving the six-year-old Chen Ge, the separated shadow is confined in a crude rag doll and taken into the Cursed Hospital as Patient 0004. Records preserved in its door-world show the doll being studied, mistreated, and taught a distorted moral framework before escaping during a riot connected to Doctor Gao and other patients. The lonely being that once played with toys and sought friendship gradually treats every betrayal as proof that happiness must be stolen or manufactured. Its accumulated resentment, curses, and experiments eventually transform it from a wounded shadow into the entity called the Ghost Fetus. (Chapters 1090–1097)

The projected Shadow in Li Wan City

Before the Ghost Fetus completes its rebirth, a detached projection known as the Shadow acts for it in Eastern Jiujiang. The projection possesses Jia Ming, manipulates the uncontrolled Li Wan City door, divides Xiao Bu’s body, raises cursed children, and searches for vessels capable of carrying extreme resentment. Its shapeless body can imitate Chen Ge and conceal itself within another person’s shadow. Although its words and memories originate in the same history, this Top Red Specter projection is not the completed Demon God and must not be treated as the entirety of the later Ghost Fetus. Chen Ge, Zhang Ya, and Doctor Gao corner that Shadow at Ming Yang Residence. As its projection breaks apart, a malformed ghost baby drains the remaining shadow-body, uses a one-use physical vessel, and curses Chen Ge from a distance through the image reflected in its eyes. Zhang Ya and Doctor Gao destroy the vessel and divide its heart, while the baby detonates rather than allow capture. The victory kills the active projection and seriously injures the Ghost Fetus’s plan, but it does not destroy the complete being; the surviving entity continues preparing through the altars, candidates, and body parts hidden elsewhere. Nine candidates for a human birth

The Ghost Fetus’s central ambition is to cross the boundary between death and life. It establishes nine altars and mud statuettes, each associated with a chosen child who might become its body, then distributes portions of its power and suffering through their doors. The arrangement serves as both experiment and camouflage: candidates endure circumstances shaped to test whether their bodies and identities can carry the fetus, while the altars acclimate them to its presence. Chen Ge is one of the nine because the Ghost Fetus still envies and seeks the life of the person from whom it originated. (Chapters 965–988, 999–1000)

Xiang Nuan becomes the decisive host because he nearly dies during childbirth and lacks the self-consciousness that would resist possession. The Ghost Fetus preserves the infant’s life and simultaneously occupies it, making their memories and consciousness overlap without erasing the distinction between them. Xiang Nuan remains the living son whom Wen Qing raises; the Ghost Fetus is the older supernatural will hidden inside him. Its earlier Shadow is a detached projection, while Xiang Nuan is the host through whom the full rebirth is attempted. (Chapters 987–1000, 1091–1100, 1109)

The world behind Xiang Nuan’s door

Inside Xiang Nuan’s door, Jin Hwa Apartments reproduces the child’s life while Jiu Hong Apartments preserves stages of the Ghost Fetus’s own history. Parts of the rag doll anchor those buildings against the black fog, and the memories of host and possessor coexist without becoming identical. The Ghost Fetus expects intruders to recover the powers scattered among the nine candidates and bring those fragments into its domain, where it can reclaim them. It also attempts to take Chen Ge’s body when he enters, but the Red Specter employees hidden with him interfere with that possession. (Chapters 1090–1101)

The core of the trap is the Past, a colossal body assembled from the Ghost Fetus’s memories, curses, victims, and material drawn from the black fog. Its heart is protected by accumulated suffering, its body can imprison powerful Specters, and its stomach is capable of digesting a Demon God. The Ghost Fetus plans to swallow every intruder—including Zhang Ya and the faceless doctor from the Cursed Hospital—then use that power to force a perfect birth. Xiang Nuan is embedded within the creature’s head, initially bound to a plan created by the older will sharing his body. (Chapters 1101–1107)

The final choice

The plan begins to fail because the Ghost Fetus develops a bond it did not account for. The rag-doll body repeatedly tries to protect Jin Hwa Apartments, and Xiang Nuan struggles against the Past when the faceless doctor threatens Wen Qing. After the doctor destroys the rag doll and uses Wen Qing as leverage, the Ghost Fetus abandons the safest route to rebirth. It turns the Past against the doctor and swallows him, accepting wounds and disruption to keep the one person who treated Xiang Nuan as family alive. (Chapters 1107–1108)

When the faceless doctor curses Wen Qing from inside the Past, she refuses to remain a hostage and throws herself into the monster. The Ghost Fetus then makes its last division: through Xiang Nuan, it draws every curse, sin, and painful memory into the dark lower shell while sending the gentler, uncorrupted part of the Past to Wen Qing. Xiang Nuan and the Ghost Fetus share the final decision, but their identities remain historically distinct. The boy fuses with the sin-laden shell, Wen Qing becomes a whale-like guardian, and the Ghost Fetus’s consciousness disperses, destroying its door and ending the planned rebirth. Appearance and personality

The Ghost Fetus has no single stable body. Its Li Wan projection is a dark, curse-made shadow that can stretch into Chen Ge’s height and features. The rag-doll vessel is assembled from discarded materials, stitched together, and repeatedly reconstructed after damage. Its temporary ghost-baby body is malformed and marked by black symbols, while the completed being speaks and acts through Xiang Nuan, a small living boy embedded in the massive form of the Past. These forms show one history without being interchangeable bodies. (Chapters 670–676, 1090–1108)

It is calculating, patient, envious, and extraordinarily vindictive. Years of imposed pain teach it to interpret kindness as something owned by other people and to reproduce happiness through possession and control. Yet memories of its earliest loneliness never disappear. The rag doll’s attempts to protect Wen Qing, the hesitation within Xiang Nuan, and the final acceptance of all accumulated sin reveal that its desire for family survives beneath its hatred, emerging only after the rebirth plan has already caused irreparable harm. Demon God curses

As a Demon God specializing in curses, the Ghost Fetus can make spoken maledictions become reality; its recovered memories state that more vicious curses have a greater chance of fulfillment. It marks people and objects with black threads, attacks through reflected images, distorts bodies and emotions, and leaves curses that persist after a vessel is destroyed. The precise cost of each spoken curse is not defined, but its power is not effortless: splitting itself, maintaining doors, and preparing rebirth all divide its attention and strength. (Chapters 676, 984–988, 1096–1100)

Division, possession, and vessels

The Ghost Fetus can separate power into a Shadow projection, possess human shadows, inhabit a rag doll, maintain a temporary ghost-baby body, and overlap its consciousness with Xiang Nuan. It creates altars and named mud statuettes to acclimate prospective hosts, distributes fragments among nine candidates, and attempts to reclaim them inside its final door. Destruction of one projection or vessel harms the plan without necessarily killing the complete entity, which is why the Li Wan Shadow’s defeat does not end the later four-star mission. Door-world construction and the Past

The overlapping world behind Xiang Nuan’s door preserves separate memories in different apartment blocks, uses rag-doll parts as anchors, and is surrounded by black fog populated by hostile shapes. The Ghost Fetus’s greatest construction is the Past, a gigantic composite capable of sealing an area, resisting a red city, consuming Specters, and digesting even a Demon God. Its strength derives from accumulated sin and memory, but that same construction becomes vulnerable when Xiang Nuan redirects its moral and emotional core to save Wen Qing. (Chapters 1090–1109)
