Description

The Friendship Jade is a crystal-clear jade accessory formed from Smaug's aura and given to Zhang Yang as a sign of friendship. While worn, it disguises Zhang as a Spectre and changes his factional hostility; three limited charges can also summon a Holy-tier shadow of Smaug for up to twenty minutes. The jade is bound to Zhang and cannot be handed to another player. (Chapter 260)

History and custody

Smaug's gift

After Zhang helps reunite Smaug and Liya, Smaug gathers aqua-green light into the jade and gives it directly to him. The item begins with three charges and binds on receipt. Zhang immediately recognizes two strategic uses: safe passage through Spectre territory and a limited boss-grade summon valuable enough to reserve for encounters beyond ordinary Yellow-Gold opposition. (Chapter 260)

Zhang spends the first charge after Snow White kills most of his party. Equipping the jade turns his avatar into a decaying skeletal Spectre; activating it materializes Smaug's Holy-tier shadow, whose single parried strike deals 200,000 damage and who defeats the Violet-Platinum boss in under two minutes. Unequipping the jade dismisses the shadow before its remaining duration expires, demonstrating that the summon depends on continued wear. (Chapters 288–289)

Defense of Thunderstorm Castle

He spends a second charge during a multi-wave territory defense when Moriarty's mechanics threaten to exhaust Lone Desert Smoke before the final wave. Smaug's shadow kills the boss in under three minutes, then guards the gate against Death Knights until the summon duration ends. The intervention preserves the castle, but the shadow lacks sufficient area damage to clear millions of riders alone; after it disappears, players must resume the defense. (Chapters 295–301)

Zhang preserves the final confirmed charge and later uses the passive disguise to cross the Plagued Land and infiltrate the Malevolent Tower without fighting the Spectre armies. The disguise does not protect him from living creatures, which become hostile while he is treated as a Spectre, and it cannot bypass unrelated high-level Demonic targets. Much later he still retains the jade and considers its friendship connection when seeking the real Smaug's help against Angus; the corpus does not show the third charge being consumed. (Chapters 374, 498, 580–582, and 748)

Abilities and mechanics

Equipping the jade disguises the wearer as a Spectre strongly enough to turn most Spectre monsters friendly, but simultaneously makes living beings hostile. This is a faction disguise rather than universal invisibility: it works in the Spectre homeland, fails as protection where living enemies are present, and does not make Demonic entities accept Zhang. Removing the accessory ends the disguise immediately. (Chapters 260, 289, 580, and 582)

Its active use summons Shadow of Smaug, a Holy-tier projection, for twenty minutes with a twenty-four-hour cooldown and an initial total of three charges. The shadow's numerical HP and Defense remain hidden, but it deals about 200,000 damage per strike in its first appearance and can withstand ordinary elite armies that deal only one damage each. It follows Zhang's target commands, yet its mostly single-target attack pattern limits its clearing speed against enormous crowds. (Chapters 260, 288–289, and 295–297)

The summon ends if its twenty-minute duration expires or Zhang unequips the jade. Charges do not replenish in the supplied corpus, so every use has a permanent opportunity cost; Zhang repeatedly declines to spend the remaining charge on bosses he considers too weak. The item is bound, preventing Wei Yan Er or another teammate from taking custody or using its charges. (Chapters 260, 272, 289, 295, and 299)
