Phantom Day
Phantom Day is a Lost Paradise Berserker who joins the guild's early dungeon party to evaluate Zhang Yang as a possible recruit. He becomes one of the group's strongest single-target attackers after upgrading his two-handed weapon, but the same run exposes his lack of area damage, low health, and limited ability to evade attacks while serving as a damage dealer. (Chapters 19–30)
Biography
Rebirth and White Jade City
Phantom Day enters Bangar Crypt as part of Lost Paradise's ten-player team. The party has a second purpose beyond clearing the dungeon: its members are observing Zhang Yang before deciding what to offer him for a place in their first-explorers team. Although Phantom Day doubts that Zhang Yang can safely pull six monsters, he keeps that judgment to himself and watches the attempt. Zhang Yang's Horizontal Sweep and defensive technique quickly overturn the doubt, and Phantom Day shifts from skepticism to open admiration, even calling him “big brother” after seeing the skill strike several enemies for twice melee attack damage. (Chapters 19–22)
The run then measures Phantom Day's own strengths and limits. He prefers two-handed weapons and replaces a Level 5 Black-Steel sword from his class quest with a Level 10 Green-Copper spear, sharply improving both his damage and confidence. That upgrade puts his single-target output near or possibly above Zhang Yang's, but he has no area-of-effect skill comparable to Horizontal Sweep. Boss mechanics also punish his small health pool: Curse of Water kills him, and a later mechanic leaves the ranged attackers trying to stop before friendly fire consumes his fewer than three hundred remaining health points. He nevertheless continues with the Lost Paradise elites and is again present when the guild forms another ten-player party. (Chapters 21–30 and 32)
Appearance and personality
The supplied corpus does not give Phantom Day a stable description of face, hair, eyes, build, real-world appearance, or clothing. His visible combat identity is instead defined by Berserker equipment and a preference for large two-handed weapons, first a sword and then a spear. (Chapters 21, 25, and 27)
Phantom Day is competitive, expressive, and quick to recognize superior play. He initially compares damage with Zhang Yang, reacts loudly to exceptional skills and boss speed, and becomes markedly more confident after receiving a better weapon. At the same time, he can restrain himself for the guild's recruiting objective, passes on equipment he does not need, and uses exaggerated banter with Silky Snow; Zhang Yang suspects that their flirtation is partly meant to draw him into competing for her attention. (Chapters 20–22 and 25–30)
Abilities and gameplay
Phantom Day is a melee Berserker built around high weapon damage. Moving from a Level 5 Black-Steel two-handed sword to a Level 10 Green-Copper two-handed spear substantially raises his attack, and a later comparison places him and Fatty Han roughly level with Zhang Yang after their weapon upgrades. His best demonstrated niche is sustained damage against one target, where the spear could let him match or surpass Zhang Yang at that stage. (Chapters 25 and 29)
His build has three explicit constraints. He lacks an area-of-effect attack, so he falls behind Horizontal Sweep whenever multiple enemies are present; he considers himself unable to dodge all but a tiny fraction of a rapidly attacking boss's strikes; and, as a damage dealer rather than the tank, he has little opportunity to trigger equipment effects that require evasion. His health is also low enough that encounter mechanics and mistimed allied attacks can kill him quickly, making healing priority and controlled damage essential to keeping him active. (Chapters 22–25 and 29–30)
Relationships
- Zhang Yang: Phantom Day first observes him on Lost Paradise's behalf, then openly admires his area damage and reflexes. Their early rivalry centers on damage output, but Phantom Day accepts Zhang Yang's leadership through the dungeon. (Chapters 19–30)
- Silky Snow: His guildmate and partner in conspicuous flirtatious banter. Zhang Yang reads their exchanges as a possible recruitment tactic intended to provoke his interest. (Chapters 23 and 26)
- Crimson Fire and Snowy Death: Fellow Lost Paradise dungeon members. Phantom Day passes on fist gloves suited to the Bandits, leaving Crimson Fire and Snowy Death to roll for them. (Chapter 21)
- Fatty Han: Another primary damage dealer in the party. Zhang Yang later directs healing toward Fatty Han, Phantom Day, and himself, and both attackers reach comparable damage after weapon upgrades. (Chapter 29)
Items
- Level 10 Green-Copper two-handed spear: Phantom Day's principal documented upgrade. It replaces his Level 5 Black-Steel class-quest sword and significantly increases his attack power, especially against a single target. (Chapter 25)
- Level 5 Black-Steel two-handed sword: His earlier class-quest weapon. The spear supersedes it during the dungeon run. (Chapter 25)
