Chirpy

Chirpy is a bird spirit beast whom Kaeul rescues and adopts after his escape from a breeding centre. Known there as Razor, he becomes her devoted companion and the first life for which she takes lasting responsibility. He later leads other escaped spirit beasts toward Anum and returns to help defend their homeland. (Chapters 71–72, 137, 216–217, 306–313)

Biography

Razor chooses his guardian deity

After escaping a breeding centre, Razor survives on Lair's streets and fights local cat spirit beasts for territory. Though injured and facing defeat, he returns to the fight because Kaeul has been waiting for him and he refuses to betray the first person to treat him kindly. Kaeul brings him home, where Bom heals him; Razor formally thanks each member of the household and bows longest to Kaeul, calling her his saviour and guardian deity. Kaeul then gives him the name Chirpy. (Chapters 71–72)

Chirpy's attachment deepens because Kaeul offers the freedom denied to him during decades of confinement and chemically restricted growth. When officials try to quarantine the unregistered spirit beast, he trembles in her arms and she refuses to surrender him, establishing that their bond carries responsibility as well as affection. Chirpy thereafter greets and consoles her, follows her through daily life, gradually grows larger, and shares a household birthday celebration with the Protector. (Chapters 72, 102, 137–138, 158, 170–172)

Little Boss and the road home

As Kaeul's mana strengthens Chirpy, he travels across Haytling to find other breeding-centre escapees. He persuades them that hiding from humans is not true freedom and that they should return home, using both force and a cause they accept; most survivors consequently recognize him as Little Boss. Even after helping stabilize a fissure to Anum, he delays his own crossing, refuses an available human form because Kaeul loves the baby-chicken form, and remains with her until the route begins to close. (Chapters 216–217, 224)

Chirpy finally leaves when his inherited Crisis Perception warns him that King Bees threaten Anum as well as when the fissure nears collapse. At the World Tree, he refuses Kaeul's attempt to make him flee because he will not abandon his homeland, instead joining hundreds of spirit beasts in moving eggs to an evacuation ship. A King Bee's sting badly wounds him, but Kaeul's first aid saves him; after the battle, spirit beasts serving him as a boss receive her alongside him, and the two complete the farewell they had struggled to make. Memory and a second chance

Chirpy remains part of Kaeul's life even while they live in different worlds. She later visits Anum before her own departure and repeatedly measures the meaning of farewell and guardianship through their time together. The clothes she once bought and repeatedly found too small record how quickly he grew, while her memory of protecting him becomes a model for the care she later gives other dependent beings. (Chapters 369, 377, 382, 390, 418)

In the rewritten history, Kaeul brings the palm-sized Chirpy into Unit 301 again and raises him with the experience gained from centuries of caring for spirit beasts. He grows from a small yellow ball to the size of a large dog, then tall enough to reach her chest, and finally large enough to carry her across open land. By the latest scenes, the enormous baby chicken remains her companion on outings such as visits to a spirit-beast café. (Chapters 428, 431, 433)

Appearance and personality

Chirpy first appears as a fist-sized baby chicken covered in soft, cotton-like yellow down, with a small beak and black eyes that flash blue when he channels mana. White strands begin appearing among the yellow as he grows, and his body eventually becomes larger than a basketball. In the rewritten history his growth is even more conspicuous: he reaches Kaeul's chest and becomes a fluffy, bear-sized mount while retaining the form of a baby chicken. (Chapters 71, 158, 217, 428, 431)

Although humans normally hear only chirps, translated speech reveals a dignified, proud, and occasionally foul-mouthed personality. Chirpy is courteous to those who help him, dislikes unwanted touching because handlers drugged and restrained him, and stubbornly protects both companions and principles. He can also be playful and food-motivated, and his formal treatment of Kaeul gradually gives way to the protests and familiarity of a close family member. (Chapters 71–72, 102, 217, 224, 272)

Powers and abilities

Spirit-beast body and growth

Chirpy is a bird spirit beast from Kaiman whose growth was artificially suppressed for decades at the breeding centre. Once free, his body can hold mana, move with considerable speed, and survive wounds that would threaten an ordinary chick. Prolonged contact with Kaeul's abundant dragon mana acts as a blessing that makes him progressively stronger and less vulnerable in fights. His size increases rapidly, but size alone is not shown to grant a formal rank. (Chapters 71–72, 102, 137, 158, 217, 390, 428, 431)

His wings initially allow only unsteady, mana-assisted hovering and flight. By the later rewritten history, his enormous body can run while carrying Kaeul, but no scene establishes sustained adult flight or a completed transformation into a bird-person. He once has the opportunity to take a human appearance and deliberately postpones it to remain in the form Kaeul loves. Cats can still wound him, and a King Bee's large sting incapacitates him until Kaeul provides first aid. (Chapters 71, 216–217, 224, 310, 431)

Repetitive Beak Blows

Repetitive Beak Blows (D) channels mana through Chirpy's beak and produces a rapid series of woodpecker-like strikes. As a small, already injured spirit beast, he uses it to knock down several cat opponents in quick succession. The technique does not prevent counterattacks or remove his physical limits: the cats' claws still injure his side and leg during the same fight. No later named upgrade is established. (Chapter 71)

Crisis Perception

After living with Kaeul for several years and unknowingly receiving her mana, Chirpy also receives Crisis Perception from her. The ability warns him of the approaching King Bees in Anum and helps motivate his urgent return before the fissure closes. Its exact range and activation process are not explained, and it does not by itself tell him how to stop the danger. Kaeul's reverse scale later provides a separate connection through which she senses that he is in peril. (Chapters 307–309)

Leadership and survival work

Chirpy earns leadership among the escaped spirit beasts by defeating resistance, rescuing followers, and arguing that they must reclaim genuine freedom in their homeland. His group searches for survivors and stabilizes the dimensional fissure, while his remaining assistants obey him as Little Boss. In Anum, however, the egg evacuation operates under the mythical creatures' command; Chirpy contributes to carrying the eggs rather than commanding the entire defence. The distinction limits his demonstrated authority to his own followers and the spirit beasts later shown serving him. (Chapters 216–217, 224, 310, 312–313)

Relationships

• Kaeul: Chirpy first calls her his saviour and guardian deity, and his unconditional attention helps her discover that she can find value in giving love rather than seeking it. He reciprocates by delaying his return to Anum, while she learns to respect the home and responsibilities that ultimately require him to leave. Their reunion in the rewritten history gives her the chance to care for him with far greater experience. (Chapters 71–72, 137, 217, 306–313, 428–431)
• Yu Jitae: Chirpy respectfully identifies Yu Jitae as the household's leader and thanks him after being rescued. Yu Jitae can understand Chirpy through Fallen Babel, secretly observes his leadership work, and arranges safeguards for Anum primarily to protect Kaeul from the grief of losing him. (Chapters 71, 216–217)
• Bom and Gyeoul: Bom heals Chirpy after the street fight and later regulates his food and repeatedly treats the injuries caused by his excursions. Gyeoul shares water with him at their first meeting and quickly becomes an affectionate playmate whose petting overcomes his stated dislike of touch. (Chapters 71–72, 102, 158, 217)
• Yeorum and the Protector: Yeorum teases Chirpy, steals his food bowl, and provokes his first translated curse, while still including him in Unit 301's shared life. The Protector feeds him excessively when left in charge, gives him a comfortable pot, and shares the household birthday celebration staged for them. (Chapters 72, 102, 170–172, 198)

Kaeul's Reverse-Scale Anklet

Before Chirpy leaves Earth, Kaeul builds him an identification anklet and attaches her pierced reverse scale, a mana-rich scale linked directly to her dragon heart. Chirpy takes it through the fissure to Anum. When the King Bees endanger him, the bond lets Kaeul perceive the crisis from Earth and directs her toward him, although it does not transport either of them or protect Chirpy from injury on its own.
