Grandmaster Pill Demon
Grandmaster Pill Demon is the supreme alchemist of the Violet Fate Sect and the master who ultimately chooses Meng Hao as his Legacy Apprentice.
Biography
Southern Domain and the Black Sieve Sect
Pill Demon first appears teaching Chu Yuyan that determination matters more than talent, using Fang Mu’s examination performance as the example. He later protects the East Pill Division’s dignity, studies Fang Mu’s pills, purchases the Bedevilment Pill, and suppresses all investigation into the anonymous Grandmaster Pill Cauldron. (Chapters 218–236)
After Meng Hao’s rise as a Furnace Lord, Pill Demon summons him to the Violet Furnace Lord trial. He opens the Mother of Furnaces, suppresses its riot with one projected finger, disperses Pill Tribulation, and recognizes the depth of Meng Hao’s apparently simple methods. (Chapters 276–287)
Within the trial illusion, he receives the child Meng Hao and accepts him as “Little Ninth.” The three kowtows create a karmic bond that Meng Hao completes only after living an entire mortal life without abandoning his own path. When Meng Hao returns and reveals Pill Cauldron through a thousand consummate pills, Pill Demon promotes him alongside Ye Feimu and Chu Yuyan. (Chapters 288–292)
Pill Demon then formally accepts Meng Hao as Legacy Apprentice, stresses that the disciple must freely choose his path, and transmits the East Pill Everburning Flame and fourth refinement. When Ji Fang attempts to cross the Southern Domain border after Meng Hao, Pill Demon blocks him and declares himself Meng Hao’s master. (Chapters 293–308)
Sect war and his apprentice's return
Pill Demon senses Meng Hao ignite the inherited flame and recognizes that his alchemical legacy will survive. When Meng Hao later appears to die, a furnace explodes in Pill Demon's hands and grief ages him by centuries. Even while believing his disciple lost, he keeps Meng Hao's East Pill mountain vacant rather than allowing the sect to replace him. Meng Hao's return therefore restores both a personal bond and the division's interrupted succession. (Chapters 320, 683 and 760)
He emerges from seclusion to witness Meng Hao's wedding to Xu Qing, then recognizes that an enemy's apparent Dao Spirit Pill is a clone concealing Hellwither incense and a Cinnabar-poison trick. The diagnosis prevents an alchemical display from becoming an unquestioned weapon against the Southern Domain. When Sun Tao sacrifices himself in the invasion, Pill Demon's grief and resolve shatter the symbols restraining his cultivation and drive him from middle Dao Seeking through late stage to the great circle, restoring his former identity as Reverend Violet East. (Chapters 764, 768 and 777)
Pill Demon, Patriarch Song, and the Golden Frost patriarch then choose the Blood Demon Sect as the Southern Domain's final defensive ground. They surrender territory to buy time, gather nearly two hundred thousand cultivators and their supplies, and construct ten formations rather than scattering their remaining strength. Earlier secret aid to Western Desert refugees also bears fruit when those cultivators arrive as allies. Pill Demon is prepared to risk everything protecting Meng Hao during his Third Severing, but follows his disciple's demand to let the attackers come. His role has expanded from preserving one alchemical lineage to making choices for the survival of the entire Southern Domain. (Chapters 784, 790 and 794)
Later cultivation journey
Pill Demon summons Meng Hao to witness his once-in-ten-thousand-years true Immortal Tribulation because the attempt also teaches his disciple what lies ahead. He reveals that Reverend Violet East refused a false Immortal path, reincarnated, and arranged a second life in which a medicinal pill developed consciousness and became his body. For a time he considers abandoning his destiny rather than competing with Meng Hao for the age's single true-Immortal opportunity, but decides that refusing his own Dao would betray both lives of preparation. (Chapter 835)
He uses the statue of his former life as a Dao Corroboration Mountain and enters the tribulation accepting that failure means death. His preparation carries him to the Door of Immortality, but cannot open its final portion; Meng Hao supplies the decisive force that completes the passage. Pill Demon ascends and leaves South Heaven with Daoist Kunlun, later watching Meng Hao's trials from the wider Ninth Mountain and Sea. (Chapters 835–855, 881 and 982)
Nine Seas and the Windswept Realm
When Chu Yuyan's physical soul begins to disperse, Pill Demon repeatedly searches for Meng Hao and sends him urgent messages. Unable to find him before her death, he returns to Mount Kunlun grieving and asks a Kunlun patriarch to reconverge her spiritual links. The attempt fails because her spiritual soul has already been extracted elsewhere, leaving the body in a jade coffin. (Chapters 1207–1209)
Pill Demon lets Meng Hao approach despite the anger of Chu Yuyan's fellow disciples and is as shocked as the others when Meng Hao detects that the death is unnatural. The Kunlun patriarch explains that her missing spiritual soul made the physical soul unsustainable; Meng Hao traces it to the Blacksoul Society and seals the coffin for preservation. The episode shows the limit of Pill Demon's authority: he can mobilize the Kunlun Society and guard what remains, but neither his cultivation nor its formations can restore a soul that is no longer present. (Chapters 1209–1211)
Meng Clan and the Mountain and Sea War
Pill Demon joins the Ninth Mountain and Sea's resistance when the Heavens invade. He sees the light of Meng Hao's aura during the wider war, later reaches the Eighth Mountain battlefield, and fights in the Realm's final defense. His contribution is that of one powerful teacher among a coalition rather than command over the campaign. (Chapters 1338 and 1380)
On Planet South Heaven he remains near Meng Hao as Shui Dongliu's hidden plan and the cost paid by Meng Hao's family are revealed. When the old Realm is compressed into the Mountain and Sea Butterfly, Pill Demon is absorbed with the surviving cultivators and helps establish their new home while Meng Hao guards the exterior. (Chapters 1393, 1396 and 1404)
Vast Expanse and Transcendence
Allheaven later uses Grandmaster Pill Demon's familiar image among the elders projected around Meng Hao inside a manufactured world. That appearance is an emotional weapon fashioned from Meng Hao's memories, not evidence that Pill Demon willingly participates in the illusion. He is remembered again as Meng Hao's reincarnation cycle concludes and the cultivator prepares to seek a path beyond Allheaven's interference. (Chapters 1509 and 1526)
Beyond Allheaven
After Meng Hao returns to the Mountain and Sea Butterfly, Pill Demon is still guarding Chu Yuyan's coffin within formations that have stood for many years. He leaves Meng Hao and Xu Qing alone with her, preserving his role as both masters' guardian without intruding on the choice before his disciple. (Chapter 1562)
Pill Demon's origin as an incarnation of a medicinal pill lets him outlive most of the old Mountain and Sea generation under Allheaven's curse, but it does not grant endless life. Three hundred years after the last handful of survivors is counted, he dies and reverts to a decayed medicinal pill that serves as his soul seed. Meng Hao stores it in the ice mountain until Shui Dongliu's method reopens reincarnation. (Chapters 1591–1592 and 1611)
Reborn in the restored cycle, Pill Demon retains an innate affinity for alchemy and joins the starry sky's largest alchemy sect, where he again becomes an illustrious Chosen. The new life preserves his defining aptitude without implying that he simply resumes the same cultivation base or institutional office. (Chapter 1612)
Appearance and personality
He appears as an ancient, calm old man whose presence carries immense authority. Pill Demon is patient, perceptive, protective of independent thought, and unwilling to bind true talent to inherited formulas or sect convention.
Abilities and cultivation
Consummate alchemy
Pill Demon can create one-hundred-percent pills and read the personal Dao inside another refiner's work. His teaching emphasizes independent understanding, so consummation cannot be gained by copying his formula alone. (Chapters 218–293)
Mother of Furnaces
He opens the ancestral furnace for the promotion trial and suppresses its riot with one projected finger. Control derives from grandmaster cultivation and sect authority; competitors still must survive and refine within the trial themselves. (Chapters 276–292)
Pill Tribulation
Pill Demon can disperse heavenly force drawn by extraordinary pills, protecting the division and trial. This demonstrates power over a specific tribulation event rather than immunity to his later true-Immortal Tribulation. (Chapters 276–292 and 835–855)
East Pill Everburning Flame
He transmits the flame and fourth refinement to Meng Hao as the complete lineage's foundation. The inheritance preserves alchemical fire and technique while leaving the disciple free to choose his own Dao. (Chapters 293–320)
True-Immortal ascension
His current life and former identity as Reverend Violet East converge during the once-in-ten-thousand-years tribulation. The former life rejected false Immortality; the second begins as a medicinal pill that develops consciousness and a body. His first-life statue becomes a Dao Corroboration Mountain, but two lives of preparation still cannot open the Door completely. Meng Hao's intervention supplies the missing force, so ascension combines Pill Demon's chosen Dao and long preparation with decisive external aid. (Chapters 835–855)
Protective cultivation
Before ascension he can block Ji Fang at the Southern Domain border and declare protection over Meng Hao. He can also identify concealed alchemical attacks, prepare layered battlefield formations, and commit his cultivation to shielding a disciple during a breakthrough. These protections depend on judgment, preparation, and allies as much as force; they are not evidence that he could defeat every ancient Ji power or reverse the loss of an absent soul alone. (Chapters 293–308, 768, 784–794 and 1207–1211)
