Chu Yuyan

Chu Yuyan is a Violet Fate Sect Chosen, daughter of the sect leader, personal apprentice of Grandmaster Pill Demon, and fiancée of Wang Tengfei. Her pursuit of Meng Hao leaves them trapped together, where rivalry gradually becomes wary mutual understanding.

Biography

Violet Fate Chosen

Chu Yuyan first appears when she and Wang Xifan collect the defeated Wang Tengfei from the Reliance Sect. Six years later, Meng Hao encounters her in Eastern Greatness City; she no longer recognizes the former sixth-level disciple. (Chapters 35 and 106–107)

At the Hundred Treasures Pavilion auction she tries to buy Spring and Autumn wood for Wang Tengfei's poisoned replacement finger. Meng Hao outbids her, and she pursues him with her white crane and multiple treasures. She recognizes him during the fight, but the death wind of the Milky Way Roc sweeps both into a sealed volcano. (Chapters 108–112)

The sealed volcano

With both cultivation bases suppressed, Chu Yuyan and Meng Hao discover a hidden Blood Immortal altar. She attempts to trick Meng Hao into practicing Violet Qi to the West so that she can absorb his cultivation, but his second Core sea defeats the plan. After Meng Hao briefly appears to escape, isolation breaks much of her certainty and she accepts an alchemical bargain. (Chapters 113–116)

Chu Yuyan concocts the seven minor pills needed for what Meng Hao calls a Seven Thunders Pill. She explains the Blood Immortal Legacy and later tries to enter its tournament first, but Meng Hao anticipates and stops her. They eventually agree that she will complete the pill and advise him, while he will take her safely out. (Chapters 117–125)

She successfully creates the Perfect Foundation Pill, though the furnace's destruction knocks her unconscious. Meng Hao keeps his promise: after finishing the Legacy conflict, he retrieves her hidden pills, breaches the volcano, and carries her out. When she awakens with cultivation restored, she acknowledges their agreement is complete and they part. (Chapters 130 and 135–136)

Song Clan gathering

Chu Yuyan later attends the Song Clan gathering with the Violet Fate Sect. Rumors publicly connect her with Meng Hao, causing her considerable embarrassment, and she participates in the World Tree trial among the Southern Domain Chosen. (Chapters 187–193)

Fang Mu and Violet Furnace promotion

Within the Violet Fate Sect's East Pill Division, Chu Yuyan repeatedly encounters the disguised Meng Hao as Fang Mu without recognizing him. She evaluates his examinations, grows suspicious of his secrecy, and grudgingly acknowledges his astonishing alchemy. During Grandmaster Pill Demon's promotion trial, she creates a 9,999-step alchemical path but is surpassed by both Ye Feimu and Fang Mu. Fang Mu's revelation as Grandmaster Pill Cauldron destroys her idealized image of the mysterious master, yet she accepts defeat and becomes a Violet Furnace Lord alongside the other finalists. Rebirth Cave

On the expedition to the Rebirth Cave, Chu Yuyan senses that she has met Fang Mu before and presses him about his identity. After Western Desert cultivators wound her, Meng Hao's voice finally confirms that Fang Mu and her old enemy are the same person. She watches his desperate stand with bitter, complicated concern and calls after him as “Fang Mu” when he turns toward the cave. (Chapters 294–313)

Black Lands, Crow Divinity, and the Demon Immortal Sect

Chu Yuyan watches Meng Hao depart after the Rebirth Cave, now forced to reconcile the enemy from the volcano with the alchemist she respected as Fang Mu. When Hanxue Shan later shows her one of Meng Hao's pills, Chu identifies both the Fang Mu disguise and Grandmaster Pill Cauldron, responding with anger, relief, and lingering concern rather than a simple reversal of feeling. The later spell that removes Meng Hao's image from Southern Domain memories makes her pale and forgetful, temporarily cutting the conscious thread between these experiences. Southern Domain War and Dao Seeking

Chu Yuyan feels an ominous disturbance when Meng Hao is believed dead, later reunites with him and other old friends at the Dao Lakes, and receives his protective jade slip through Hanxue Shan. She watches Meng Hao leave the Violet Fate Sect with Xu Qing, privately weeps, but still congratulates the couple and speaks with Xu Qing before their wedding. (Chapters 683–736 and 738–781)

The Wider Ninth Mountain and Sea

Chu Yuyan watches Pill Demon's tribulation and departs South Heaven with him and Daoist Kunlun. From the starry sky she continues to witness Meng Hao's Ancient Road rise and Paragon Immortal Ascension, her emotions gradually settling into proud distance. (Chapters 801, 836, 840, 845, 847, 855, 881, 967, and 982)

Nine Seas and the Windswept Realm

Chu Yuyan is kidnapped and afflicted with self-aware Underworld Dragon Poison to draw Meng Hao into the Demonic Cultivator Horde's trap. The poison retreats through her body when challenged, making a direct purge likely to injure her, so Meng Hao transfers captured enemies' life force and obtains the heart-blood of at least ten transformed Sea Dragons as the required antidote. The rescue leaves her alive but shows that her survival depends on treating the poison's mechanism rather than overwhelming it with raw Immortal power. (Chapters 1061–1075)

In the Windswept Realm she attempts Immortal Ascension at the worst possible moment because the descending Door of Immortality carries the Mountain and Sea Realm's power and might interrupt the force expelling Meng Hao. Her qi passageways shatter under the pressure, and she is too weak to open or sustain the Door, but its collision with the black hole briefly halts the Realm's movement and strengthens Sea Dream's convergence. The forced breakthrough leaves her soul dangerously fragile. During her return teleportation, a Blacksoul Society incense burner extracts her spiritual soul; the unsupported physical soul slowly disperses, leaving her body in a Kunlun Society jade coffin. Meng Clan and the Mountain and Sea War

Chu Yuyan appears during the crisis in which allies attempt to help Meng Hao. Her continuing presence links the escalating Mountain and Sea war to the unresolved cost of her dispersed physical soul and preserved body. (Chapter 1310)

Vast Expanse and Transcendence

Han Bei reveals that she captured Chu Yuyan's soul and sustained it by fusing part of her own life soul into it. Years of nourishment leave the two thoroughly intertwined: killing Han Bei would disperse Chu Yuyan, and separating them requires Transcendent power. Han Bei sends the still-independent soul into reincarnation, where it becomes the mortal Yan'er and the sole apprentice of Meng Hao's clone, Fang Mu. (Chapters 1452–1453)

Allheaven later uses Chu Yuyan's image among the soul-projections designed to imprison Meng Hao in a false life. Her authentic soul remains central to his choices through Yan'er and the final separation from Han Bei. (Chapters 1509–1510) and (Chapter 1526)

Beyond Allheaven

Chu Yuyan continues to reject awakening while the restored realm enters its final crisis. Her body later vanishes from its coffin, and the supplied ending reveals her again aboard a ship encountered after Meng Hao and Xu Qing enter the Universe, leaving the path between those events unresolved. Appearance and personality

Chu Yuyan is an exceptionally beautiful young woman and one of the Southern Domain's celebrated beauties. Proud, intelligent, resourceful, and initially ruthless toward Meng Hao, she repeatedly tries to regain control after losing her cultivation. Their months of confinement expose her fear, stubbornness, integrity as an alchemist, and capacity to revise her judgment.

Chu Yuyan is already at mid Foundation Establishment with four Dao Pillars during the sealed-volcano crisis, giving her greater direct cultivation power than Meng Hao until the environment suppresses them both. She later reaches Dao Seeking and attempts the transition into the Immortal Realm in the Windswept Realm. The breakthrough summons the Door of Immortality but occurs under hostile world pressure: her qi passageways shatter, she cannot open the Door, and the resulting instability helps leave her soul vulnerable. Her Immortal status is therefore achieved at catastrophic cost rather than through a stable, completed ascension. (Chapters 113–116, 1065 and 1148–1152)

Violet Qi from the East and Violet Qi to the West

Violet Qi from the East cultivates nine forms of violet qi through the cycles of sun and moon and is the Violet Fate Sect's public signature method. Violet Qi to the West is its restricted counterpart. A chosen subject practices the latter under an elder's control and becomes clone-like; the Chosen can then use Violet Qi from the East to absorb that person's cultivation and life force. Chu attempts this on Meng Hao without an assisting elder, but his second Core sea makes the cultivated violet power disappear from her reach. The failure establishes both the technique's predatory purpose and its dependence on successfully binding one compatible cultivation system. (Chapters 113–116)

Formula interpretation and controlled concoction

Chu can analyze an unfamiliar ancient prescription, prepare its component pills, and manage a long final refinement. For the Perfect Foundation Pill she independently concocts the minor pills and combines seven prepared components according to the disguised Seven Thunders formula. The final stage takes about three months and offers only one attempt because ingredients are exhausted; destruction of the furnace knocks her unconscious even when the pill succeeds. Her work demonstrates precision, patience, and adaptation under resource limits rather than effortless creation. (Chapters 117–130)

Original pills and Violet Furnace rank

During Pill Demon's promotion trial, Chu chooses the difficult route of inventing a new Qi Condensation-stage pill rather than reproducing a known prescription. Her work must satisfy tests of medicinal strength, vegetation variation, poison terrain, and the “spark of life” within alchemy. The finished path produces 9,999 steps, placing her near the summit of her generation even though Ye Feimu and Fang Mu surpass her. Pill Demon identifies refinement of the heart—not only technical concoction—as the direction her Dao of alchemy must develop and promotes his personal apprentice to Violet Furnace Lord. Door of Immortality

At the threshold of Immortal Ascension, Chu can summon the archaic Door of Immortality and its connection to the Mountain and Sea Realm's laws. In the Windswept Realm, the Door's descent collides with the traitorous black hole and briefly stops the realm's upward movement, indirectly giving Meng Hao a chance to finish his objective. Chu cannot open the Door or keep it present because her foundation and surroundings are unstable. The ability is therefore a breakthrough phenomenon tied to her own ascension, not a repeatable gate she can summon safely at will. (Chapters 1148–1152)

Magical treasures and combat support

Chu uses a white crane as a mount and combat companion, tracking jade to follow a target, and a violet lotus pod, ancient oil lamp, three-colored fan, bells, and other sect treasures for pursuit, restraint, and attack. This varied kit lets her pressure Meng Hao across the air and respond to changing defenses, but it cannot prevent the Milky Way Roc's death wind from sweeping both cultivators into the sealed volcano. Once the environment suppresses cultivation and cuts off storage bags, her survival depends more on alchemy and negotiation than on the treasures themselves. (Chapters 108–117)
