Biography

Welcoming Zhou home and explaining his father

Ling Zihan greets Zhou when he returns to the family manor after running away. Anger at his disappearance gives way almost immediately to relief and physical affection. She also corrects Zhou's belief that his father's punishments were only expressions of temper. Admiral Zhou had been using carefully controlled Heavenly Energy while striking him in an attempt to improve the body of a son believed unable to cultivate. Ling understands both the discipline and the affection behind that harsh method, and her explanation lets Zhou recognize a form of paternal care that his father would never state openly. Her response to Zhou's former engagement to Difuya is similarly practical rather than ceremonious. Although no time seems to have passed from her perspective, she awakens in golden light with the memory of her husband's apparent sacrifice still immediate. She is warm, outspoken, protective, and emotionally direct.
