Eternal Night

Eternal Night is the long-reigning emperor who ends the Harpies' isolation, restores Sky City's mobility, and attempts to make his race the dominant power on the Primordial Continent. His ascetic discipline, political intelligence, and willingness to sacrifice reputation or lives for the Harpies make him Su Chen's most formidable strategic rival. Even after defeat forces him into human service, he continues to place Harpy survival and independence above his own standing.

Biography

Rebuilding Flying Spirit City and seizing the throne

Eternal Night first enters the public record through a news bulletin reporting that “Eternal Night Banishing Light” has declared that Flying Spirit City will be rebuilt. The same bulletin says that the Primordial Chaos Tower has shifted toward the western border while several cities warn of impending battle, placing his reconstruction order within a wider military crisis. The supplied scene does not explain Flying Spirit City's condition, the reason for rebuilding it, or Eternal Night's personal movements; it establishes only that his decisions already carry continent-wide political significance. Later historical accounts reveal how different he is from the isolationist rulers who preceded him. Eternal Night preserves the old Perpetual Daylight Palace rather than replacing it to flatter his own clan. He reasons that a sane Harpy wronged by humans would not attack all Harpies while stealing wealth, connects the intruder to human illusion techniques and the Zhu Clan, and mobilizes intelligence and hostages to narrow the possibilities. Eternal Night refuses to redirect the poisoned Desolate Beast across inhabited territory because only Sky City can reliably kill it and allowing it to wander would devastate more settlements. He delays it for three days, mobilizes additional Floating Points, sacrifices the politically tainted Halcyon Wing clan on the front line, and deploys hidden assets when Su Chen guides lesser beasts toward critical installations. Sky City wins, but casualties rise drastically and valuable designs and resources are stolen. Unable to prove the intruder's identity at first, Eternal Night eventually uses information extracted from Zhu Xianyao's entourage to connect Halcyon Wing Streak to Su Chen. He then pays a tremendous price to secure Oceanid neutrality and concludes that the rapidly growing Boundless Sect must be destroyed before it becomes untouchable. Eternal Night is a short, thin Harpy man with dark skin distinctive to his clan, an unassuming face, and, in later years, the appearance of a weak and shriveled old man.
