Kelly

Kelly is a Central Mage Academy student whose gratitude toward the Dark Magus leads her to study forbidden Dark Magic and join the Dark Guild. She becomes Raze Cromwell's most consistent contact in Alterian, first allowing his projected identity to enter her academy and later serving as an intelligence source and cross-world anchor. Her loyalty grows from private devotion into independent moral agency when she exposes her magic to save classmates, rejects Harvey's control, and fights beside Raze against the Grand Magi.

Biography

The survivor who sought the Dark Magus

Kelly grows up in a town controlled by a guild that distributes an addictive illegal substance. Her mother becomes dependent, is forced to work for the guild, and is killed after trying to steal the product. Kelly possesses only a two-star core at the time and can do nothing against the organization. When the Dark Magus destroys it, public reports condemn him, but Kelly sees the man who ended her oppressors as a savior. Distrust of the official story pushes her toward Dark Magic and the Dark Guild rather than away from them. (Chapter 245)

At Central Mage Academy, that choice makes Kelly capable yet isolated. She is placed in the lowest first-year class because she concentrates on taboo Dark Magic and has weak practical experience with the conventional affinities and their counters. She hides the forbidden study, tolerates Aurora's bullying, and rejects social closeness that might expose her. Her academy standing therefore reflects both genuine gaps in her training and the secrecy required by the power through which she hopes to repay the Dark Magus. (Chapter 299)

Kelly accepts a direct risk when Raze's astral form needs access to Central's open day. She lets him adopt the identity of her brother “Jake,” provides clothing and local guidance, and helps him enter as her guest. During class, Raze gives her an unorthodox way to counter Gust; repeating it earns Kelly her first perfect praise from the professor and shows that her poor placement is not fixed. In practical exercises she demonstrates Gust, Water Ball, and Wind Swipe as a three-star mage, though her casting remains slower and less experienced than that of elite classmates. (Chapters 302–312)

Aurora's dangerous attack forces Raze to save Kelly publicly. Kelly then acknowledges that “Jake” is likely the Dark Magus and tells him why she chose this path. Raze refuses to demand permanent service, urging her to leave the darkness if she finds a better life, but the concern strengthens rather than breaks her loyalty. Kelly begins to see him not only as the distant figure who avenged her mother, but as a person who offers her choices and might serve as the light she had not expected to find through Dark Magic. (Chapters 313–325)

Building the Dark Guild connection

Kelly continues attending Dark Guild meetings despite Raze's warning and the pressure of academy work. Recruitment assignments frighten her because discovery could end her education or worse, yet she chooses to investigate a prospective member's home rather than abandon the task. A small Dark spell dissolves the sealed entrance, after which she finds a cat behaving with unmistakably human intelligence and discovers that Sophie is a mage trapped in that form by a book. (Chapters 489–491)

Bringing Sophie into the Guild gives Kelly both a recruit and her closest companion. At this stage Kelly is a three-star mage overall but can use only first-level Dark Magic, while Sophie's Dark skill is higher. Their shared affinity helps create a stable point near which Raze can form his astral body, but Kelly does not cast his projection; Raze supplies and controls that technique himself. Kelly's contribution is presence, secrecy, and the willingness to make her life a reliable bridge to the Dark Spirit. (Chapter 585)

Kelly later works with Harvey on operations against abusive guild figures, gathers leads concerning disappearances, and remains the person Raze approaches when he appears outside the scheduled meetings. Her devotion does not make her fearless: she questions plans, worries about casualties, and measures what the Guild's actions will cost ordinary people. By the time Harvey formally organizes hundreds of Dark mages, Kelly occupies a trusted position with access to information across the expanding organization. (Chapters 592 and 785–797)

Intelligence across worlds

Raze's improved astral projection brings him back to Alterian for longer periods, where Kelly and Harvey report on the Guild's expansion and the political conditions he can no longer observe directly. Kelly supplies records, identifies people and institutions worth investigating, and helps distinguish rumor from actionable information. Her value is not overwhelming combat power but continuity: she remembers Raze's priorities between visits and can translate a distant commander's questions into local research. (Chapters 1079–1102)

When Raze returns after Aurora vanishes through a portal, Kelly tells him that Alen questioned the academy and discovered by her silence that “Jake” is not her real brother. She has withheld Raze's identity even under that pressure and also notices the unusual absence of Grand Magus Enaxx. Raze tells her that any debt has long been paid and asks her to choose an ordinary life if she wants one. Kelly instead chooses to remain because his concern confirms that she matters to him, accepting a new research assignment concerning Gizin and the guilds connected to his company. (Chapters 1194–1196)

Kelly's room then serves as Raze's private return point while he investigates Aurora's disappearance and confronts Alen. The arrangement carries risk and limited privacy for Kelly, but it lets Raze protect both siblings without exposing the visit to the wider Dark Guild. This phase makes their relationship reciprocal: she provides the safe connection and intelligence he lacks, while he actively diverts a powerful investigator away from her and recognizes her safety as a personal responsibility. (Chapters 1197–1200)

Central Academy and a public choice

After Raze physically returns to Alterian, Kelly helps investigate Central Academy from within rather than treating her student status as separate from the coming conflict. She assists Londo during the festival operation, follows evidence surrounding the hidden magic circle and memory manipulation, and channels Dark Magic through marked surfaces to complete the covert work. The assignment relies on discretion and knowledge of the academy rather than direct force, allowing Kelly to expose part of Ibarin's scheme without surrendering her cover immediately. (Chapters 1382–1438)

Kelly also warns Raze about the pills Ibarin has distributed. She refuses to take them, leaving her as the only Central student in her group still able to cast when the others' cores are emptied. When academy staff secretly try to remove the defeated students, Kelly recognizes the route as an ambush and attacks first. Her wind spell evenly contests a staff mage's gust, confirming how far she has developed from the bottom-class practical student, but the staff's numbers and mixed elements prevent her from protecting everyone with ordinary magic. (Chapters 1469–1486)

To save Nannan from a fireball, Kelly reveals Dark Magic in front of the classmates whose judgment she has feared for years. She consumes the flame, raises shadow barriers against fire, wind, and lightning, and continues until the three-on-one pressure exhausts her mana. The decision exposes her Dark Guild connection and could make her a target, but it changes how the other students see her: Nannan and Kayzel judge the person who saved them rather than the taboo affinity, and Raze arrives declaring Kelly one of his people. (Chapters 1486–1488)

Kelly and Londo then step openly into leadership when Dark Guild members protect the students during the academy's collapse. Their authority helps organize evacuation and establishes that Kelly's secret was not merely an individual fascination; she has become a trusted figure capable of directing mages under pressure. Public exposure costs her the safety of anonymity, but it also ends the split between the academy student and the Dark mage she had been hiding. (Chapters 1489–1520)

Choosing a cause over Harvey

Kelly chooses to accompany Raze into the Underside because his leadership gives her room to speak in a way Harvey's does not. Harvey's intensity and certainty have made her suppress objections about the Guild, whereas Raze's bluntness still permits disagreement. The Underside also confronts her with people damaged by the same substances that destroyed her mother. Watching Raze and Safa cure one victim moves her to tears and turns the investigation of Gizin's supply chain into a personal commitment to the revolution Raze proposes. (Chapters 1528–1537)

As the revolution develops, Kelly works with Londo to direct frightened and exhausted civilians rather than reserving her magic for elite combat. Harvey eventually orders the Dark Guild against the Underside shelters, forcing Kelly to decide whether loyalty means obedience to its current commander or fidelity to the people and principles for which she joined. She and Londo intercept attacks on Alen, remove their concealing robes, and publicly renounce the Guild under Harvey's control. (Chapters 1571–1621 and 1631)

Their declaration gives doubting Dark mages permission to defect. Kelly uses earth walls and Dark Pulses beside Londo and Sophie to protect those who remove their robes, explicitly promising that anyone who leaves Harvey will be defended. The choice makes her a target of former allies but also converts private discomfort into alternative leadership. She is no longer following the organization that once gave her purpose; she is defining what its magic should be used to protect. (Chapters 1631–1639)

When Harvey manifests an enormous Dark puppet, Kelly and Londo decide that their familiarity with him gives them the best chance to slow it. Their strongest combined elemental-and-Dark attack is overwhelmed, establishing the gap between Kelly and a Grand Magus empowered by the construct. She nevertheless keeps attacking, contributes four-element combined force to break the puppet's limbs, and supports the opening used by Liam and Dame. After Harvey falls, Kelly moves toward the exhausted Raze rather than claiming the victory for the Guild she has rejected. (Chapters 1651–1660)

Noble Land and the fall of Idore

Kelly remains with Raze's reduced coalition as it moves through the sewers toward Noble Land. When enemy mages surround the group, she pools Dark Magic with Londo and Sophie into a reinforced orb that consumes incoming fire, ice, and Light attacks. The shield buys time but is explicitly finite under sustained bombardment. Raze also recognizes that Kelly lacks the high-tier enchanted equipment carried by stronger companions and plans to pass captured Noble artifacts to her group, though the corpus never identifies a specific item she ultimately receives. (Chapters 1661–1704)

Inside Noble Land, Kelly, Alen, and Londo clear enemies from Raze's flanks while he bears the heaviest pressure from the towers and larger formations. Her role is sustained support rather than a solo duel with Idore: she keeps the route open, retreats when the fortress's defenses make further progress suicidal, and survives to rejoin the coalition after Pagna's reinforcements arrive. The campaign preserves the limits established against Harvey—Kelly can materially shape a team battle, but she cannot contest a Grand Magus alone. (Chapters 1705–1720)

Kelly survives Idore's defeat and rushes to Raze's bedside when he wakes a week later. At the victory dinner she sits among his closest Alterian allies, and she tells him that her next goal is to find a magical way to restore Sophie permanently from her feline form. This is her latest direct state: alive in Alterian, free of Harvey's command, publicly accepted by former academy peers, and directing the loyalty that began with the Dark Magus toward a future she has chosen for herself. (Chapters 1762–1769)

Appearance and personality

Kelly is introduced with a youthful, “baby-faced” appearance, short brown hair cut in a bowl shape to her ears, and a light-blue outfit consisting of a dress and cropped blazer. At Central she wears the academy uniform and later conceals herself in the Dark Guild's enchanted robes, which shadow the wearer's face. Her unthreatening appearance contrasts deliberately with Alterian assumptions about a Dark Magic user. (Chapters 245, 299, and 585)

She begins cautious, anxious, and accustomed to hiding. Kelly worries about recruitment, discovery, stronger students, and the consequences of bringing Raze into Central, but fear usually makes her plan more carefully rather than abandon a commitment. Her reverence for the Dark Magus can be idealizing, yet she listens when the person behind the title refuses her debt and gradually learns to distinguish chosen loyalty from compulsory service. (Chapters 245, 302–325, 489–491, and 1194–1196)

Kelly's later courage is explicitly moral rather than fearless. She reveals forbidden magic because Nannan will otherwise die, challenges Harvey because the Guild attacks civilians, and protects defectors knowing that loyalists will target them. She also becomes more willing to voice disagreement: the young woman who stayed silent around Harvey eventually chooses Raze partly because he lets her speak, then helps lead people who make the same break from coercion. (Chapters 1486–1488, 1536, and 1631–1639)

Magic, cultivation, and abilities

Alterian magic foundation

Kelly has a conventional Alterian magic core in addition to her Dark affinity. She recalls being a powerless two-star mage during her mother's death and is explicitly a three-star student by the Central open day. Demonstrated ordinary spells include Gust, Water Ball, Wind Swipe, a silence spell, wind combat strong enough to deadlock a staff mage, and earth barriers used to protect defectors. Later team attacks combine multiple elements, but the corpus does not establish that Kelly independently masters every element present in those combined formations. (Chapters 245, 309–312, 1484–1486, and 1633–1653)

Her early limitation is uneven education: focusing on forbidden magic leaves her weak in conventional counter theory and practical casting despite sound potential. Raze's instruction helps her discover less orthodox counters, and continued experience makes her one of Central's top students by the academy conflict. Raze explicitly recognizes that she has become a four-star mage by Chapter 1083; no later chapter assigns her a rank beyond four. She remains below Grand Magus-class opponents, exhausts her mana when three staff members pressure her, and lacks the high-tier equipment available to several of Raze's other fighters. (Chapters 299, 309–312, 1083, 1486–1487, 1651–1653, and 1692)

Dark Magic

Kelly learns Dark Magic out of gratitude to the Dark Magus and develops it secretly because Alterian institutions treat it as forbidden. At three-star overall strength, she initially commands only first-level Dark spells. Early applications dissolve a magically sealed entrance and sustain the affinity through which Raze can locate her. Later she projects Dark Pulses, consumes or disrupts elemental spells, raises shadow barriers, channels darkness through prepared markings, and combines her power with other Dark mages. (Chapters 245, 490, 585, 1436, and 1486–1487)

Dark Magic's destructive interaction with other magic lets Kelly erase a fireball and intercept hostile Dark Pulses, but it is not an automatic defense. Multiple attackers drain her faster than she can replace shields, Harvey's construct destroys her strongest combination with Londo, and the Noble Land barrier formed with Londo and Sophie cannot hold indefinitely against sustained fire, ice, and Light. Her exact latest Dark rank is unstated; the evidence shows broader, more confident application rather than a quantified promotion. (Chapters 1486–1487, 1631–1639, 1651–1653, and 1682)

Astral anchor and intelligence work

Kelly's Dark affinity gives Raze a familiar connection point for his Astral Projection spell. He forms and controls the spirit body, pays its mana cost, and determines where it travels; Kelly's role is to be the living anchor near which he arrives and to keep the location secure. The connection can place her at personal risk and does not grant her cross-world travel, remote vision, or control over Raze's projection. (Chapters 302–305, 585, 793–797, 1079–1102, and 1194–1198)

Her independent strength in that partnership is intelligence. Kelly recruits cautiously, investigates disappearances and institutional links, remembers unusual absences, protects Raze's identity under questioning, and works through Central's festival cover to obtain evidence. These skills rely on access, judgment, and persistence rather than supernatural knowledge; she can miss facts outside her network and often needs Raze, Harvey, Londo, or Alen to act on what she finds. (Chapters 489–491, 592, 785–797, 1194–1196, and 1382–1438)

Cooperative combat

Kelly becomes most effective when her spells are combined with trusted partners. With Londo she blends wind, fire, and darkness into rotating attacks; with Londo and Sophie she creates Dark shields and coordinated Pulses; with broader teams she supplies elemental force that strips layers from Harvey's puppet. Combined casting increases scale and covers gaps in her individual repertoire, but it depends on time, compatible partners, and concentration. Overwhelming output can still break through it, and the narrative repeatedly places her in support of a shared opening rather than crediting her with a solo finishing blow. (Chapters 1631–1653 and 1682)

Relationships

  • Raze Cromwell: Kelly first reveres the Dark Magus as the man who avenged her mother. Acting as his academy cover, astral anchor, and intelligence contact turns that distant debt into sustained trust. Raze repeatedly frees her to leave and later calls her one of his people; Kelly chooses to remain because his concern and willingness to hear her make the loyalty her own.
  • Sophie: Kelly discovers Sophie trapped as a cat, brings her into the Dark Guild, and becomes her constant companion. They fight side by side after renouncing Harvey, and Kelly's latest stated goal is to find a permanent way to restore Sophie's human form.
  • Harvey: Harvey is initially Kelly's operational partner and the organizer of the expanded Dark Guild. His secrecy and controlling authority make Kelly suppress her views. When he turns the Guild against Underside civilians, she renounces his command, protects defectors, and helps create the opening through which the coalition defeats his puppet.
  • Londo: Londo is Kelly's closest leadership partner within the later Dark Guild. They investigate Central, direct evacuations, reject Harvey together, protect mages who follow them, and combine ordinary and Dark spells in the battles for the Underside and Noble Land.
  • Alen: Alen discovers that Kelly's claimed brother is false while investigating Aurora. Kelly protects Raze's identity under questioning; later she and Alen become battlefield allies, with Kelly and Londo saving him from Dark Guild attacks and joining his effort against the Grand Magi.
  • Aurora: Aurora initially bullies Kelly and nearly kills her during an academy exercise, leaving a relationship marked by fear and distance. By the conclusion both survive the Grand Magi's fall and share the victory dinner among Raze's close allies, though the corpus does not show a full private reconciliation between them.

Items

  • Dark Guild robes: Kelly uses the enchanted face-shadowing robes for concealment during Guild activity. She and Londo deliberately remove and discard them when they publicly renounce Harvey's command; the robes are organizational equipment, not unique personal artifacts. (Chapters 585 and 1631–1633)
  • Academy and infiltration materials: Kelly uses Central's uniform, Raze's contact device, records, disguises, and prepared magic-circle surfaces during covert work. None receives a stable personal item name in the corpus, and custody varies by operation. (Chapters 302–305, 1382–1438, and 1486)
  • Planned Noble equipment: Raze intends captured high-tier enchanted items to strengthen Kelly, Londo, and Sophie because they are under-equipped. The supplied chapters do not identify a particular item that Kelly receives, so no later ownership or ability should be inferred. (Chapters 1692–1704)
