Harvey

Harvey is an Alterian police insider who becomes the operational leader of the Dark Guild founded around Raze Cromwell. He turns a persecuted magical underground into a mass organization and a defended Underside, but devotion to the Dark Magus hardens into an ideology that treats other lives as fuel. Raze ultimately kills him after Harvey rejects the person behind the symbol he claims to serve.

Biography

Police insider and forbidden research

Harvey first assists Raze from inside Alterian's policing system, using official access while remaining loyal to forbidden Dark Magic. He gives Raze old research and helps preserve knowledge that respectable institutions suppress. At this stage he functions as a practical subordinate: he understands surveillance, secrecy, and the risks around the Dark Guild, and his willingness to work behind an official identity gives Raze an Alterian contact when direct action is impossible. (Chapters 244, 296–302, and 489–593)

Building the Dark Guild

During Raze's absence, Harvey turns broad instructions into an organized clandestine force. He recruits and trains Dark Magic users, assigns ranks, coordinates cells, and works with Kelly to keep the Dark Magus's presence alive in Alterian. By the Orian Guild operation, the organization has hundreds of members and Harvey can stage an artifact raid designed to expose corruption and force the world to acknowledge their return. The resulting news makes the Dark Magus a global political threat rather than a forgotten fugitive. (Chapters 784–813 and 1078–1105)

Harvey's success makes him more than a caretaker. He becomes the person who interprets what the Dark Magus should mean, treating expansion and public fear as proof of loyalty. He continues briefing Raze's projection and preparing for a physical return, while the Guild's dependence on his structure gives him authority that Raze did not personally supervise. This independence later becomes the foundation of their conflict: Harvey serves a symbol shaped by his own guilt and ambition. (Chapters 944–974 and 1194–1200)

Lord of the Underside

By Raze's return, Harvey has rebuilt the Dark Guild around a fortified Underside refuge. He formally yields leadership to Raze and joins attacks on Glory and Cerebus, using tunnels, Dark Magic, and the Dark Puppet to defend outcasts whom the dominant guilds exploit. His concern for the Underside is real, but so is his authoritarianism. Alen challenges methods that treat allies and civilians as expendable, while Kelly supports Harvey's command without sharing his emotional certainty. (Chapters 1528–1599)

Gizin's assault reveals both sides of Harvey's rule. He and the Dark Puppet oppose overwhelming energy attacks, reshape terrain, and absorb punishment to protect the settlement. Yet Harvey also takes Dark Affinity from dead guild members and has built power through people whose deaths he presents as useful sacrifice. What begins as defense becomes accumulation: he hoards corruption and converts the Guild he claims to protect into material for his own rise. (Chapters 1599–1653)

The end of Harvey's Dark Guild

Harvey finally turns against Raze because Raze repeatedly protects people Harvey considers obstacles. He declares that anyone standing in their way should become a corpse and denies Raze's right to remain the Dark Magus. Raze rejects the premise, explaining that the title arose from a personal grudge rather than Harvey's program of domination. Their confrontation is therefore not a succession dispute alone; it exposes how Harvey replaced loyalty to Raze with worship of a harsher idea bearing Raze's name. (Chapters 1655–1658)

Harvey surrounds himself with a giant puppet formed from gathered Dark Affinity, but Raze's evolved Dark Edge steadily absorbs its energy. Once the construct shrinks, Raze extracts the remaining mana directly from Harvey. Harvey admits satisfaction that Raze is the one ending him and hopes his power can still be useful; Raze then breaks down the corpse until nothing remains. His death ends his centralized Dark Guild and transfers the energy he accumulated to the person whose cause he had distorted. (Chapters 1659–1660)

Appearance and personality

Harvey commonly conceals himself in dark robes and a mask marked by Guild rank, an appearance suited to both clandestine command and the symbol-driven hierarchy he creates. His presentation emphasizes office more than individuality: members recognize the leader and rank before the man. The corpus provides less detail about his uncovered features than about his masked authority. (Chapters 1078–1101 and 1528–1534)

He is resourceful, disciplined, intensely loyal, and increasingly authoritarian. Harvey can build communities and place himself in danger for the Underside, but he also interprets sacrifice as permission to take power from others. His final development is a moral inversion: the organizer who once supported Raze decides that Raze is too weak to embody the Dark Magus, revealing that Harvey's devotion has become a justification for his own fear, guilt, and ambition. Magic, cultivation, and abilities

Dark magic

Harvey learns and develops forbidden Dark Magic within the Guild. He produces suppressive pulses, condensed spheres capable of destroying buildings, defensive coatings, and large destructive attacks. He can also absorb or collect Dark Affinity from dead practitioners and add it to a constructed body around himself. This accumulation drastically enlarges his output, but it depends on stolen or sacrificed power and is vulnerable to Raze's extraction-based Dark Edge, which drains the construct with every exchange. (Chapters 786–795, 1538–1600, and 1639–1659)

Light-aligned energy erodes his darkness, and energy-bodied opponents can survive ordinary destructive hits. His final barrage is powerful but tactically rigid: he continues attacking through the puppet while Raze absorbs each failed strike, making the apparent size of his reserve a liability. When Raze reaches his physical body, Harvey has no remaining resistance to direct extraction. (Chapters 1599–1600 and 1656–1659)

Earth magic and guerrilla fieldcraft

Harvey also uses Earth Magic to tunnel, alter routes, and reshape battlefield terrain. Paired with his knowledge of policing, cells, and the Underside, this affinity supports ambushes, evacuations, concealment, and attacks against stronger formal guilds. It is a separate trained affinity from his Dark Magic, not an effect of the Dark Puppet. Its usefulness depends on terrain and preparation, and it cannot by itself overcome Grand-Magus-scale power. Dark Puppet

The Dark Puppet is Harvey's controlled construct and signature companion. He coats and enlarges it with Dark Magic so it can block beams, attack at siege scale, and shield Harvey or civilians. Its substance can absorb punishment and reform into larger configurations as more affinity is supplied, but the coating can be stripped or drained. During Harvey's last battle it becomes a body around him; Raze's repeated absorption reduces the gigantic form until Harvey can be pulled from its core. (Chapters 1599–1600 and 1639–1659)

Relationships

• Raze Cromwell: Harvey builds the Dark Guild in Raze's name and initially recognizes him as its rightful leader. His worship of the Dark Magus symbol eventually eclipses loyalty to Raze himself, leading Raze to extract his power and kill him.
• Kelly: Kelly is Harvey's trusted fellow Dark Magic user and subordinate. She supports the Guild while remaining uneasy about Harvey's intensity and the costs hidden inside his methods.
• Alen: Harvey and Alen share enemies but not ethics. Alen rejects Harvey's sacrifices and indiscriminate violence, making their coalition an unstable alliance held together by Raze's larger campaign.
• Himmy: Himmy's final clues feed the anti-Alter investigation that Harvey and the Guild continue. Their connection is operational rather than an extensively developed personal bond.
