Graft
Graft is a Pagna-born wanderer known for guiding parties through dimensions and supplying useful information and equipment. Secretly part of Marcus's Alter squad, he survives an expedition with Raze Cromwell, keeps Raze's secrets, and later leaves Alter's service with the rest of his team to support Raze's allies under Harbour's protection.
Biography
Guide in the ruined dimension
Graft joins Fin's expedition with a strong wanderer reputation: other warriors know him as someone who has visited dimensions before, carries handy support items, and understands hazards that ordinary raiders miss. He identifies Raze as an unusually advanced initial-stage warrior, recognizes the danger of a stationary boss, warns Plon's group away from trapped eggs, and finds the hidden route into a relic chamber. His motivation is partly survival and partly usefulness; when Raze reveals forbidden power, Graft stays and offers knowledge rather than gambling on escape. (Chapters 330–341)
The chalice and a dangerous promise
In the chamber, Graft recognizes the Divine Summoning Chalice and explains that it can temporarily summon a Divine-stage being into Pagna at full power. He does not acquire the chalice; Raze takes it. Their encounter leaves Graft bound to conceal what he has learned, and when they meet again Raze observes that Graft has neither retained his face nor reported him to Alter. Graft then agrees to guide Raze toward Alter, turning a forced bargain into continuing practical cooperation. (Chapters 342–343 and 453)
Alter squad and separation
Graft is revealed as the Pagna-born member of Marcus's Alter team. He notices holes in Raze's cover story but does not expose them, and he uses local knowledge and bargaining skill to obtain herbs, an urn, and power stones needed for Shing's work. The squad's secrecy requires frequent movement and careful use of public job boards, a life well suited to Graft's wanderer persona. His combat rank is modest beside the group's specialists, so information, supply, and navigation remain his most valuable contributions. (Chapters 458–463)
Choosing Raze's side
After Alter turns on its own field teams, Graft resurfaces with Harbour and introduces himself to Safa's group as someone who is from Alter—or would once have said so. Harbour shelters him and the surviving squad, who choose Raze's side and provide information rather than return to the organization that purged them. This is Graft's last direct appearance: he is alive and aligned with Raze's network, but the corpus does not show whether he participates personally in the later wars. (Chapter 957)
Appearance and personality
Graft is short, with a scruffy beard and a large backpack, and looks as though he is in his fifties despite saying that he is actually in his thirties. His nervous manner can make him appear weak, but he remains perceptive under pressure. He notices inconsistencies, respects hazards, bargains effectively, and prefers being useful to making heroic claims. Most importantly, he can keep dangerous information to himself when disclosure would endanger Raze or his own team. (Chapters 330–341, 453, and 458)
Magic, cultivation, and abilities
Graft is a second-stage Pagna warrior during the ruined-dimension expedition. He can fight ordinary dimension beasts and use Qi, but he cannot restrain Fin when the stronger warrior turns on the party. The corpus does not name his martial discipline, weapon style, or any later advancement. His direct combat ceiling therefore remains low relative to the allies he supports. (Chapters 334–338)
His defining expertise is dimensional fieldcraft. Graft recognizes boss behavior, traps, relic architecture, and dangerous artifacts; carries miscellaneous support gear; and evaluates when a group should touch, avoid, or sell what it finds. Alter knowledge helps him identify the chalice, but the story does not establish that every fact he knows comes from Alter rather than experience. He also navigates markets and job systems, making him a logistical specialist rather than an artifact wielder. (Chapters 330–343 and 458–463)
