Andy
Andy is Flendon's head town guard, a young armored defender who helps organize ordinary residents against armies far beyond the town's former scale. An earlier chapter names a scarred auction-house contact called Andy, but the corpus never explicitly confirms that he is the later guard; this article preserves that unresolved identity point rather than treating the auction connection or scalp scars as established features of the guard.
Biography
An unresolved earlier name
Dame Narfous first tells Raze to ask an auction house for a man named Andy, identifiable by scars on top of his head, as part of establishing a more permanent base. That Andy never appears directly in the scene, and the supplied corpus does not connect him by title, history, or dialogue to Flendon's later head guard. The shared name is recorded here because the census groups it, but the auction role and scars remain uncertain rather than a confirmed chapter of the guard's life. (Chapter 182)
Preparing Flendon to stand
The directly depicted Andy appears as Flendon's head town guard while a Behemoth force of roughly twenty thousand closes on a settlement defended by only about two thousand ordinary or partly trained people. When Mayor Yarlston blames himself for profiting from Flendon's growth, Andy rejects that guilt and places responsibility on the powerful clans choosing to attack civilians. He refuses the mercenaries' defeatism, trusts that the Dark Magus will return, and helps turn fear into an organized defense rather than abandoning the walls. (Chapters 836–842)
The Behemoth siege
Andy leads from the fighting line with his shield, rallies defenders to exploit openings, and coordinates groups equipped with Dark-Magus-made protection and pills. The town survives long enough for stronger allies to transform the battle; Andy and his guards react with awe when unexpected rescuers arrive, then cheer when the remaining attackers flee. His contribution is not a decisive supernatural technique but sustained command: he keeps outmatched residents acting together until the coalition's greater fighters can finish the war. (Chapters 854–902)
Guarding the rebuilt town
After the siege, Andy remains responsible for Flendon's security as walls are repaired and new threats force leaders to gather again. He accompanies Mayor Yarlston to the north wall, waits through the town-hall crisis surrounding the king's death, and continues working with Brack and the broader coalition. His final direct appearance is at a Flendon leadership meeting where he is still identified as head town guard and is alive; the corpus supplies no later retirement, promotion, or death. (Chapters 908–925 and 1071)
Appearance and personality
The directly depicted head guard is a young man in armor with a shield strapped to his back. He speaks forcefully when leaders or mercenaries give in to blame and despair, and his optimism rests on practical loyalty to Flendon's residents and faith in their allies. He is capable of wonder when stronger fighters intervene, but that does not stop him from maintaining command among ordinary guards. (Chapters 836–896)
The scars on top of the head belong to the auction contact described in Chapter 182. Because no later scene repeats those scars or identifies the head guard as Dame's contact, they cannot be included as a certain part of the directly depicted Andy's appearance. (Chapters 182 and 836)
Magic, cultivation, and abilities
Andy has Pagna combat training sufficient for frontline guard duty, but no stage or named cultivation art is given. He fights through a large siege, channels the town's defenders around openings, and uses a shield in close formation. His strongest demonstrated ability is command under pressure: dividing fighters into useful groups, keeping morale intact, and directing attacks when stronger allies stagger the enemy. The corpus does not show independent spellcasting or a personal magical affinity. (Chapters 836–902)
His principal defense is item-assisted. Andy carries a shield crafted by the Dark Magus and uses it while leading from the wall, but the text does not give the shield a name, rank, curse, or exact activation principle. It should not be confused with Tilon's Legendary Cursed Shield, whose absorption and fatal overload conditions belong to a separately identified item and wielder. (Chapters 836–879)
Relationships
- Mayor Yarlston: Andy is Yarlston's head guard and rejects the mayor's self-blame during the siege. They continue coordinating Flendon's defense and political response afterward.
- Raze Cromwell: Andy trusts the Dark Magus to return, fights with a shield attributed to him, and later attends Flendon's coalition meeting in Raze's presence.
- Brack: Brack and Andy remain among Flendon's practical defenders and representatives after the Behemoth war.
- Dame Narfous: Dame knows an auction-house contact named Andy, but the corpus does not prove that contact is Flendon's head guard.
Items
- Dark-Magus-made shield: Andy carries this shield as head guard and uses it during Flendon's defense. Its precise enchantment, curse status, acquisition scene, and later custody are not established, so its protection is not treated as Andy's innate ability. (Chapters 836–879)
- Armor: Andy wears guard armor in his first direct scene. No special enchantment or named set is described. (Chapter 836)
