Xu Qing

Xu Qing is the central cultivator of Beyond the Timescape. Beginning as an orphan surviving a ruined city, he builds a life around a strict rule of repayment: kindness is remembered, harm is answered, and promises are carried to their end. His loyalties widen from individual protectors to sect, comrades, humankind, and finally the living beings of Revered Ancient, while his cultivation develops through poison, life lamps, godly authorities, and the immortal path.

Biography

Survival in the Ruins and Scavenger Camp

Xu Qing begins as a wary adolescent in a city annihilated by blood rain, searching for a route to his missing family while treating every sound, corpse, and stranger as a possible threat. The violet crystal embedded in him heals wounds that should be fatal, but it does not remove hunger, cold, or mutagen. He therefore survives through observation, traps, a black iron skewer, and a refusal to depend on mercy that has not been proven. (Chapters 1–3)

Entering the scavenger basecamp gives Xu Qing shelter but also exposes him to a society where weakness is routinely consumed. Sergeant Thunder offers food, cultivation instruction, and a home without demanding that Xu Qing become harmless. Grandmaster Bai recognizes his hunger for knowledge and teaches him plants and medicine. Xu Qing responds in the only language he fully trusts: he studies obsessively, records their names on bamboo, and makes their kindness a permanent obligation. (Chapters 4–30)

That fragile home ends through betrayal and violence. Xu Qing fights beside Sergeant Thunder, sees companions and teachers die, and turns grief into deliberate vengeance rather than indiscriminate rage. He kills the camp owner, hunts those responsible, and razes the Golden Vajra Warrior Sect after its patriarch pursues him. Capturing the patriarch’s soul in the iron skewer gives him a dangerous subordinate, while leaving the camp confirms that he can no longer recover the home he briefly found there. (Chapters 31–46)

Seven Blood Eyes and the Forbidden Sea

At Seven Blood Eyes, Xu Qing enters as an Offpeak disciple with no clan or wealth, so he treats the sect as both opportunity and trap. He joins the Violent Crimes Division, conceals his strength, and earns resources through missions while learning how the sect’s predatory incentives work. Zhang San’s practical friendship and the Captain’s unsettling competence slowly give him a team, but Xu Qing continues testing people by what they do rather than what they promise. (Chapters 47–98)

The Forbidden Sea forces Xu Qing to turn preparation into a cultivation path. He develops his dharmaboat as home, weapon, and escape route; hunts sea beasts; confronts Merfolk schemes; and discovers that his shadow possesses its own will. Rather than pretending the shadow is obedient, he suppresses it with the violet crystal and gradually establishes communication. The same caution lets him take the Black Umbrella Life Lamp without confusing possession of a treasure with safety from its consequences. (Chapters 99–149)

War expands his ambitions. Xu Qing uses the Merfolk and Seazombie campaigns to open dharma apertures, cultivate Golden Crow Assimilates Myriad Spirits, and challenge enemies who once stood beyond him. His infiltration with the Captain combines disguise, patience, and audacious theft, but his pursuit of Bai Li is personal: Grandmaster Bai’s death cannot remain unpaid. By the time Seven Blood Eyes joins the coalition, Xu Qing is no longer merely surviving its rules; he has become one of the people capable of changing its future. (Chapters 150–266)

Coalition and Swordsage Calling

Life in the Eight Sect Coalition places Xu Qing among chosen backed by clans, life lamps, and inherited status. He answers their advantage through controlled escalation: arresting offenders, accepting profitable compromises when they genuinely resolve a problem, and meeting lethal hostility with lethal force. His struggle with Master Shengyun culminates in Xu Qing taking the Seven-Color Wind-Soaring Lamp, while formal apprenticeship to Master Seventh gives political form to a bond that began when the peaklord quietly watched him survive. (Chapters 267–309)

The Blood-Soaked Performance destroys any illusion that advancement can protect everyone he values. Master Sixth dies, Yanyan is bereaved, and Torchlight turns coalition lives into material for its design. Xu Qing helps stop the catastrophe and later kills Master Shengyun, but victory does not reverse the loss. His grief becomes another responsibility: protect the people who remain, understand larger threats, and carry Master Sixth’s memory forward without reducing it to revenge alone. (Chapters 310–349)

During the swordsage selection, Xu Qing competes against Zhang Siyun, Qing Qiu, and other chosen while refusing shortcuts that would empty the oath of meaning. Recognition by Grand Emperor Swordsage confirms the values already visible in his choices: responsibility to humankind and trust among comrades. In the county capital he befriends Kong Xianglong’s group, survives the unknowable D-132 assignment, and turns the bluegreen dragon into a heavenly dao, learning that collective duty can strengthen rather than replace his personal code. The Captain’s Holytide scheme then tests how far Xu Qing can weaponize reputation and belief. Disguised as a Nightshade, he uses the violet moon’s authority to pass a divine-likeness test, changes Mu Ye’s caste, pressures the Black Guard, and obtains a crimson life lamp. He also recognizes Qing Qiu as the child he once saved and protects her without exposing his disguise. By entering Ten Entrails with her and Ning Yan, he carries both mission and old obligation into enemy territory. (Chapters 439–451)

War for Sea-Sealing County

The Holytide expedition gives way to open war, forcing Xu Qing to move from gifted swordsage to public commander. He returns to a county under existential pressure and accepts duties that cannot be solved by personal assassination alone. His insistence that no one be left behind shapes evacuations and battlefield choices, while the Palace Lord’s example teaches him that leadership sometimes means absorbing blame, danger, and impossible decisions so others can continue resisting. (Chapters 452–480)

Xu Qing uses poison, intelligence, and institutional authority together, attacking supply lines and exploiting the assumptions of stronger enemies rather than contesting every battle directly. The return of the Seventh Prince complicates the county’s survival with imperial ambition, and Xu Qing must distinguish aid to humankind from loyalty to a political claimant. His choices preserve forces and expose treachery, but they cannot prevent the Palace Lord’s death or make victory emotionally complete. (Chapters 481–525)

The Dawning Sun and the war’s final movements transform Xu Qing into a figure whose decisions affect an entire domain. He helps turn accumulated sacrifice into a weapon capable of breaking the enemy’s advantage, then accepts the status and obligations produced by survival. Yet he does not treat rank as an ending: the Captain’s next immense plan and the unresolved Red Moon threat pull him onward, with his county responsibilities now joined to the larger problem of gods feeding on living beings. Moonrite and the Red Moon

In Moonrite Region, Xu Qing hides behind new identities and begins with the practical work of medicine, poison, and information. Operating as Grandmaster Pill Nine allows him to build influence without surrendering his purpose to public acclaim. He gathers companions including Ning Yan, Wu Jianwu, and Li Youfei, reconnects with the Captain, and studies a population whose despair has been cultivated by Crimson Mother’s church as carefully as any poison. (Chapters 551–620)

The Moonrebel Congregation gives Xu Qing a way to turn isolated resentment into shared resistance. He refines curses and medicines, exposes false hope, and helps the Heir Apparent’s group recover strength while learning the buried history of Moonrite. His motivation grows beyond defeating a single enemy: people have been trained to regard divine predation as inevitable, so breaking the system requires restoring their ability to imagine opposition and act together. (Chapters 621–680)

When Crimson Mother descends, Xu Qing combines the violet moon authority within him with the region’s accumulated rebellion. The confrontation does not make him a god, nor does it erase the danger of godly power; it teaches him to seize and redirect authority without accepting the worldview that accompanies it. Moonrite’s liberation expands his responsibility again, and returning to Sea-Sealing ties divine conflict to the imperial struggles already gathering around humankind. (Chapters 681–717)

Imperial Capital and the Firemoon Great Hunt

Xu Qing reaches the imperial capital as a celebrated swordsage and regional hero, but court recognition places him inside conflicts where praise can be another form of control. He reports for duty, faces the Seventh Prince’s faction and imperial scrutiny, and protects the people connected to him while refusing to let ceremony redefine his loyalties. His growing public identity as Violet Lord rests on service and earned trust rather than inherited legitimacy. (Chapters 718–770)

The Xeno-Immortal path gives Xu Qing a new method for cultivating souls and organizing collective power. He studies its principles, develops soul seeds, and applies them while navigating clues about his own origin and Zi Qing. Each revelation increases the danger of treating identity as destiny: powerful figures have plans for what Xu Qing is supposed to become, while he continues choosing relationships and obligations that those plans cannot fully predict. (Chapters 771–810)

During the Firemoon Great Hunt, Xu Qing advances through contests designed to reward ruthless accumulation, yet repeatedly turns opportunities toward his companions and broader aims. He acquires Grand Darkheaven capabilities, confronts gods and chosen, and pursues the truth behind inherited authorities. The hunt ends with him far stronger but also more aware that godhood can convert every victory into appetite; his answer is to keep power subordinate to remembered people and chosen duties. Holy Lands and Human Ascension

Within the emperor’s corpse and the lands beyond, Xu Qing forms dao lineaments and confronts forces that treat worlds as pieces in struggles among gods. Grand Darkheaven armor and new authorities let him survive encounters that once would have annihilated him, but their use demands judgment: borrowed or seized power can magnify his will without explaining its origin, and every transformation risks making the tool shape the wielder. (Chapters 903–940)

Xu Qing’s conflict with Zi Qing clarifies the personal dimension of that danger. Zi Qing is tied to his lost family, the violet crystal, and designs extending beyond Revered Ancient, yet Xu Qing refuses to become merely the answer to another being’s plan. He gathers godly authorities, severs imposed karma where possible, and protects companions through battles in which the distinction between cultivator and god grows increasingly unstable. By the outer sea, Xu Qing has become hunter rather than prey, but vigilance remains one of his defining strengths. He recognizes hidden gazes, studies unfamiliar rules, and does not mistake greater cultivation for complete understanding. His passage toward the Fifth Star Ring therefore carries a deliberate tension: he seeks the power needed to defend home, while remaining alert to teachers, patrons, and cosmic systems that might turn that pursuit into another cage. Fifth Star Ring and Immortal Trials

Arrival in the Fifth Star Ring strips Xu Qing of the certainty attached to his status in Revered Ancient. Its immortal institutions, canons, and statutes operate on a scale he must learn before he can challenge them. He adopts roles such as Xeno-Immortal Enquirer and works within local hierarchies, using patience and disguise to acquire knowledge while preserving the goal that brought him across the Primeval Sea: return home capable of facing what awaits there. (Chapters 1003–1100)

Xu Qing’s alliances with figures such as Sir Star Ring, Zhou Zhengli, Li Mengtu, and Immortal Lord Mi Ming demonstrate how his leadership has changed. He still keeps decisive plans concealed, but he can now coordinate subordinates across worlds and offer them real paths of advancement. Trials of canon, statute, and immortality force him to convert earlier authorities into an ontology that is genuinely his own rather than a collection of trophies. (Chapters 1101–1200)

Advancing through Daoforge and immortal trials, Xu Qing reaches Summer Immortal without abandoning the cultivation knowledge that began with Grandmaster Bai’s lessons. Their reunion closes one of his oldest wounds and reframes his childhood education as part of an immortal path grounded in transformation, medicine, and close observation. When he finally leaves, he carries Grandmaster Bai’s entropy lamp, Mi Ming’s canon, loyal followers, and strength comparable to an Immortal Lord. (Chapters 1201–1307)

Return to Revered Ancient and the Final War

Xu Qing returns to find Revered Ancient exhausted by twenty-seven years of conflict. He does not approach it as a distant immortal collecting worship; he brings his Fifth Star Ring experience, followers, and authorities into the defense of the people and places that formed him. The return unites his identities—scavenger, disciple, swordsage, regional lord, and immortal—around the same original choice to repay what gave him life. (Chapters 1308–1320)

The final war forces Xu Qing into his strongest state, combining immortal cultivation, godly authorities, and the relationships accumulated across his journey. He fights alongside Master Seventh and the Captain against Brilliant Heaven’s godfolk and the forces bound to Eminent Desolation. Victory ends the mutagen that defined life in Revered Ancient, but it is purchased through sacrifice and cannot prevent every parting; Master Seventh eventually chooses reincarnation in Deep Earth. Three hundred peaceful years later, Xu Qing approaches Immortal Paragon by fusing binary planets and chooses to experience life with Plumdark rather than reduce existence to advancement. After Zi Qing awakens and departs, Xu Qing waits for Erniu, gathers the spirits of those he remembers, and enters the Living God Umbilical Cord with Plumdark and his Eldest Brother. He pursues the Ethereal Apex as a chosen future, not an inherited command. (Chapter 1354)

Appearance and personality

Xu Qing begins as a thin, filthy adolescent whose cold, hawk-like eyes reveal constant vigilance. As he grows and cultivation removes the grime and deprivation of childhood, his exceptionally handsome features become increasingly difficult to conceal, prompting repeated use of disguises. He favors controlled expressions, quiet observation, and practical clothing suited to movement rather than display. (Chapters 1, 47, 183, and 271)

His reserve is not emotional emptiness. Xu Qing remembers kindness with unusual intensity, records debts on bamboo, and often protects people without announcing why. He is suspicious of easy generosity, quick to eliminate unresolved lethal threats, and comfortable using poison or deception. At the same time, his promises, grief, and loyalty steadily widen his circle of responsibility, making reliability rather than sociability the foundation of his relationships. (Chapters 24–46, 195–205, 443, and 1308–1354)

Abilities and cultivation

Xu Qing’s cultivation crosses orthodox qi cultivation, body refinement, poison, life lamps, imperial-class techniques, godly authorities, and finally immortal canon and statute. His defining strength is integration: he studies the operating rules of each power, tests interactions, hides incomplete trump cards, and combines them only when their costs and consequences are acceptable.

Violet crystal, recovery, and mutagen resistance

The violet crystal is embedded in Xu Qing from his earliest memories and heals extreme physical damage while helping purify or suppress mutagen. It does not prevent pain, exhaustion, or immediate incapacitation, and its origin remains unresolved until revelations connect it to Si Yu and the Living God Umbilical Cord. Xu Qing also uses its suppressive force to control Little Shadow, making the crystal both a survival foundation and an identity mystery. (Chapters 1–3, 43–46, 117, 171–173, and 1354)

Seaforming Scripture and foundational cultivation

Sergeant Thunder introduces Xu Qing to cultivation, after which the Seaforming Scripture lets him draw on the Forbidden Sea and build a deep spiritual foundation. He advances through Qi Condensation, opens dharma apertures in Foundation Establishment, forms heavenly palaces in Gold Core, and continues through Nascent Soul, Spirit Trove, Void Returning, and higher stages. Poison and medicine

Grandmaster Bai’s instruction gives Xu Qing a systematic understanding of plants, incompatibilities, dosage, treatment, and toxic transformation. Xu Qing applies poison through prepared powders, environmental dispersal, contaminated resources, and combinations tailored to stronger opponents. Poison is most effective when enemies do not realize they have entered its conditions; unfamiliar constitutions or superior cultivation can resist it, so he observes symptoms and revises formulas rather than assuming universal efficacy. His later identity as Grandmaster Pill Nine expands medicine from assassination into collective resistance. He refines treatments and curse-breaking methods for Moonrite, uses medical credibility to gather intelligence, and eventually learns immortal-level transformation from Grandmaster Bai. The entropy lamp he receives demonstrates a culminating principle: medicine and vegetation knowledge can contain even a God Paragon’s authority, though reproducing that achievement remains a future task rather than established mastery. Golden Crow Assimilates Myriad Spirits

Xu Qing acquires Golden Crow Assimilates Myriad Spirits as an imperial-class technique and develops it through repeated assimilation. The golden crow can manifest outside him, devour compatible power or life essence, strengthen his body, and combine with his cultivation attacks. Assimilation is not indiscriminate: targets, resistance, and the quality of what is consumed matter, and powerful interactions can expose him to danger or incomplete control. (Chapters 172–180, 208–220, 245–261, 289–325, and 413–414)

Life lamps and layered battle prowess

The Black Umbrella Life Lamp supplies defensive profound-radiance power; the Seven-Color Wind-Soaring Lamp, seized from Master Shengyun, adds another inherited source; later lamps include the crimson, Hellspirit Bloodwing, and broken-sword lamps. Burning life lamps temporarily raises battle prowess and forms heavenly-palace foundations, but using them exposes prized resources and makes Xu Qing a target. Their effects are item-derived, even after integration, and remain distinct from innate cultivation. (Chapters 124–145, 227–260, 396, 450–451, and 718–902)

Violet moon and godly authorities

Contact with the Red Moon and Crimson Mother awakens and enlarges Xu Qing’s violet-moon authority. It can command related divine power, influence worship-linked manifestations, and help him contest gods, but godly authority carries mutagen, appetite, and identity pressure. Xu Qing’s central achievement is not simply accumulating authorities; he incorporates violet moon, poison, and later powers while resisting the assumption that ascension requires surrendering the values of a living cultivator. Xeno-Immortal souls, Grand Darkheaven, and immortal canon

The Xeno-Immortal system lets Xu Qing cultivate and distribute soul seeds, building power through structured soul relationships rather than ordinary spiritual energy alone. Grand Darkheaven armor and later godly authorities further expand his combat forms. These systems grant immense scale, but each comes with external histories and rules; Xu Qing studies their canons and refuses to confuse temporary access, disguise, or borrowed authority with complete personal mastery. In the Fifth Star Ring, Xu Qing converts accumulated cultivation into ontology, canon, and statute, eventually reaching Summer Immortal. He can traverse starry space and time, command the Sageheaven Pagoda through his own canon, and wield strength comparable to an Immortal Lord. By the epilogue he is approaching Immortal Paragon through binary-planet fusion, then enters the Living God Umbilical Cord to pursue Ethereal Apex; success is not established within the corpus.
