Zhou Xinqi
Zhou Xinqi is a leading Chosen of Fragrant Cloud Peak whose expertise in plants and vegetation, competitive resolve, and loyalty to the Spirit Stream Sect carry her from celebrated apothecary prospect to a battlefield cultivator of the River-Defying Sect. (Chapters 17–18, 35, 82, and 290)
Biography
Fragrant Cloud's Apothecary Chosen
Zhou Xinqi first stands at the center of Fragrant Cloud Peak's apothecary culture. As Li Qinghou's personal apprentice and the bearer of a plants-and-vegetation spirit meridian, she holds first place on most of the 10,000 Medicines Pavilion's stone steles and is expected to inherit her master's mantle. When Bai Xiaochun's anonymous turtle insignia displaces her, she does not dismiss the result: she repeatedly retakes the test for seven days, pushes herself to exhaustion, and ultimately confronts the fact that the unknown competitor possesses deeper plant knowledge. She answers that setback by completing the remaining tests and shifting the contest toward medicine concocting, where she already holds journeyman rank. (Chapters 17–18, 35, and 37)
Her pride does not make her accept misconduct committed in her name. When admirers try to intimidate supporters of the anonymous challenger, Zhou Xinqi publicly rebukes them and calls the appearance of another Chosen fortunate for the sect. She also assumes responsibility for Li Qinghou's missing spirit-tail chickens while he is away, organizes a hunt, and rewards Bai Xiaochun because she believes his staged patrols show unusual diligence. The episode makes her an unwitting target of his deception, but it also establishes that her sense of sect duty can override wounded prestige. (Chapters 22–23)
South Bank Competition
Zhou Xinqi enters the south bank qualifying competition as one of its three chief hopes, nervous beneath the confidence others place in her. Her eighth-level Qi Condensation cultivation, medicine expertise, and Li Qinghou's magical training secure her a leading position, although Bai Xiaochun overtakes her during the race. In the subsequent Chosen battles, she refuses to concede against Ghostfang despite recognizing that he is stronger than Lu Tianlei, and expends enough energy on her Magic Plant Arsenal that her face turns pale. The attack fails and leaves her badly injured, yet the stubbornness with which she watches Ghostfang depart confirms that defeat has not erased her resolve. (Chapters 82–85 and 87–91)
That resolve carries her to Earthstring Foundation Establishment in another holy land while Bai Xiaochun enters the Fallen Sword Abyss. Her foundation reaches no more than six Tideflows, after which the sect assigns her duties and she enters secluded cultivation while striving toward the Legacy Echelon. At the Ancestral Darktunnel, only one legacy shaft responds to her, a contrast sharpened when more than one hundred compete for Bai Xiaochun. The result leaves her with conflicted feelings, and reports of Nightcrypt's exploits drive her to cultivate even harder rather than abandon the comparison. (Chapters 140–141, 173, 175–176, and 207)
Sect War and River Defiance
During the confrontation between the Spirit and Blood Stream Sects, Zhou Xinqi is among the Chosen who control the Spirit Stream spell formation giants. Bai Xiaochun's revelation as Nightcrypt and Middle Peak's blood master overturns what she understands about both sides, but once the conflict is stopped and the sects unite, she fights in the campaign against the Profound Stream Sect and makes a name for herself on the battlefield. Her relationship with Bai Xiaochun also becomes less simply antagonistic: she warns him against touching Heavenspan River water, and his impossible success and deliberately cryptic answer briefly alter how she sees him. (Chapters 273, 275–283, and 290)
In the River-Defying Sect, Zhou Xinqi remains part of the exceptional generation forced to measure itself against Bai Xiaochun's accelerating rise. She responds to his Heaven-Dao Gold Core by entering seclusion and advancing toward the great circle of Foundation Establishment. Their old rivalry has softened enough that Bai Xiaochun counts her among the friends he wishes he could take to the Starry Sky Dao Polarity Sect, while she receives his eventual admission that he was the little turtle with complete calm. (Chapters 316–318, 338, 354, and 361)
Death on a Sect Mission
Zhou Xinqi's death is not dramatized directly. Bai Xiaochun later learns that, ten years before his return, she encountered cultivators from the Polarity River Court while carrying out a sect mission and died in the resulting fight. Shangguan Tianyou, with whom she had quietly fallen in love, avenged her, but the delayed account does not identify her attackers individually or describe her final actions. (Chapter 877)
The loss changes the survivors more visibly than the source can show Zhou Xinqi's own final development. Bai Xiaochun pays his respects at her grave and struggles with the accumulation of familiar deaths. Shangguan preserves a blue strip of cloth she gave him, never recovers his earlier bearing, and is still quietly drinking and murmuring her name centuries later. (Chapters 877–878 and 1218)
Appearance and personality
Zhou Xinqi is repeatedly described as exceptionally beautiful, with phoenix-like eyes and a graceful bearing. She often wears a long blue gown and travels on blue flying silk; in one formal encounter, Bai Xiaochun thinks she resembles a celestial goddess. Her cultivation can surround her with blue light and a strong aura of life. (Chapters 18, 37, 140, and 215)
Her public manner is cool, proud, and controlled, but her actions reveal persistence rather than effortless superiority. She drives herself through repeated failures, refuses to surrender a difficult match without trying, and reacts to stronger peers by cultivating harder. She is also capable of fairness and responsibility: she rejects interference by her fans, acts on Li Qinghou's behalf, helps the weakened Hou Xiaomei during the sect confrontation, and warns Bai Xiaochun away from danger even when he annoys her. (Chapters 18, 22–23, 91, 207, 273, and 275)
Abilities and cultivation
Zhou Xinqi combines an apothecary's foundation with plant-based combat arts. The corpus establishes her progression through Qi Condensation and Earthstring Foundation Establishment but does not show her reaching Core Formation before her death.
Plants, vegetation, and medicine
Her plants-and-vegetation spirit meridian underlies both her reputation and the expectation that she will inherit Li Qinghou's apothecary mantle. Before Bai Xiaochun's anonymous challenge, she holds first place on eight stone steles and later expands that record; she has mastered nine of the ten plants, vegetation, and spirit-creature volumes when she qualifies as a journeyman apothecary. Her original promotion test yields seven successful concoctions, a benchmark treated as the work of a Chosen. Bai Xiaochun ultimately surpasses both her theoretical rankings and that result, but the comparison does not negate her established standing as one of Fragrant Cloud Peak's foremost young apothecaries. (Chapters 17–18, 35–37, and 42–45)
Magic Plant Arsenal
Zhou Xinqi's principal demonstrated combat art channels plant imagery through blue sparks and flying silks. By forming the silks into a huge flower, she produces a force with strong gravitational pull and sends the blossom forward as though it were consuming its target. The art has numerous variations and can ultimately develop into the Magic Plant Arsenal, which Li Qinghou can spread across a vast area; Zhou Xinqi's own use at Qi Condensation is exhausting and fails against Ghostfang's clawed ghost hand. The source demonstrates the technique's theme, force, and cost at her early level, but not its later forms after Foundation Establishment. (Chapter 91)
Earthstring Foundation and formation warfare
Zhou Xinqi reaches Earthstring Foundation Establishment with no more than six Tideflows. At that stage she radiates blue light and powerful life force, but the corpus does not identify her exact Tideflow count or describe a named Foundation Establishment breakthrough ability. In large-scale war she can control a Spirit Stream spell formation giant, later fights at full strength in the River-Defying Sect's campaigns, and advances toward the great circle of Foundation Establishment through seclusion. These scenes establish continued growth and formation proficiency without proving a later realm. (Chapters 140, 173, 279–290, 331, and 354)
Relationships
- Li Qinghou: Zhou Xinqi's master and the source of both her apothecary expectations and plant-based magical inheritance. She acts in his interests while he is absent and is widely expected to inherit his mantle.
- Bai Xiaochun: Her anonymous rival in plants and vegetation, later a frustrating sect elder and fellow River-Defying cultivator. Their competition repeatedly unsettles her, but she recognizes his importance, warns him from danger, and becomes someone he remembers as a friend after her death.
- Shangguan Tianyou: A fellow south bank Chosen with whom mutual love develops without either voicing it. He avenges her death, preserves her gift, and remains defined by the loss long afterward.
- Ghostfang: The north bank opponent whose overwhelming victory demonstrates the limit of Zhou Xinqi's Qi Condensation combat strength. She nevertheless refuses to concede before testing herself against him.
- Lu Tianlei: A fellow south bank Chosen and recurring peer in competition, Foundation Establishment, and war. Zhou Xinqi candidly acknowledges that he is slightly stronger when Ghostfang asks her to compare them.
